Just curious, I have noticed a trend in which more and more players blow right past most of the bad guys and race straight to the "Boss Fights" often to a point of leaving a teammate who is fighting the minions behind. I thought the idea was to have fun playing the game, it seems more and more people are approaching the game as a race to collect funds and gear and less and less about just having fun with the gaming experience. Seriously, how can it be just racing through two thirds of a strike/mission?
Am I off base in my observation?
Food for thought: Excluding Night-falls, Heroics and Raids most of the legendary or better stuff I have gotten have not come from dropping a boss but just some lowly minion. I still clearly recall my first legendary drop. I was doing the Cerberus Vae III strike, dropped a Legionnaire thought I saw a "Rare" item dropped although the coloring looked a little off. I just assumed it was the way the light was striking the item (Since I had never seen a legendary before). Well low and behold I had my first legendary item just from some minion.

I rush because you really don't gain much exp from the standard minions. Plus I've fought them so many times that I'd rather just see if I got a legendary or exotic, that's the fun part for me
-
If you're skipping trash mobs and completing 6 strikes an hour or killing everything and only completing 2, you're still killing roughly the same per hour and in more challenging (ie. Fun) encounters, so you're not missing out on engram chances and are getting more rewards for your effort due to the strike completions. I'll never quite understand the insistence on cleaning out the entire strike (luckily it tends to be in the minority of preferences, in my experience) but if that's how a team wants to go, more power to them, absolutely.
-
yea dude i made a post about people cheesing roc strikes and half the people that commented were all butthurt over it its not that hard and the engrams/heavy ammo are worth the 2 mins it takes to kill shit
-
I kinda agree with you but if you are doing the tolands legacy bounty you start getting tired of doing strike so you just want to rush them
-
And I have a better chance getting a legendary as a reward, I have been playing since launch and I've only seen a legendary drop from killing enemies 5 times
-
Strikes were fun the first time. Now im just over it. Its just a grind for gear and currency.
-
I run my weekly over and over for engrams. Strikes are just. Meh Unless they start adding various skulls Then it would be sweet
-
I guess it depends on the situation... sometimes I rush strikes... other times I carefully clear each section and pick up any crates I can find.
-
The end rewards are almost always better for ROC so just makes sense to skip some areas. I only really skip the areas that are utterly useless though like non-Darkness areas or where there are just a handful of enemies that aren't even impeding my progress. If an area looks like it generally needs to be cleared to move forward in the strike though then of course let's kill everything.
-
For most sentiment is "No not fun doing same thing 1000th time with people who refuse to use their mics". I can relate to this sentiment a bit. End of roc rewards are there waiting where the minion drops are iffy. Personally I enjoy killing the minions so I'm that guy that is left behind.
-
Yes. I stopped enjoying the same 5 strike missions in September.
-
Before ROC I've had 4 exotics drop at the end of lvl 24 strikes (gjallarhorn, patience, plan c, and another plan c). Had zero exotics and nothing good come from killing other stuff within the level.
-
How can we have fun with the same strike we have played over 200 times -_-
-
1 ReplyBecause you're farming for engrams or marks. It's quicker, therefore, to run through and finish. And no, no one enjoys them; it's the same bullshit we've been doing for four months lol.
-
I don't waste my time with the trash enemies as there are better places to farm them. I have a decent amount of time to play, but wasting it by being horribly inefficient sounds incompetent.
-
Because I get nothing but energy from legendary engrams. So I'm after exotic drops, rep, and marks to either get a vanguard package or buy elemental weapons for nightfalls.
-
Only time I do is if a bounty or archon preist as get sick of that same strike
-
You have better chance to get an exotic after you kill the boss than farm engram from monster. People doing exotic bounty that need 5 and 25 strikes so they just want to rush and finish it as fast as possible. I personally just want to finish a strike as fast as possible :)
-
Maybe they have more fun running past enemies. You shouldn't assume what you experience as fun to be the same for everyone else.
-
I guess you're new to destiny seeming this isn't blatantly obvious to you. People such as yourself make strikes extremely slow by staying behind and fighting the enemy's like you say. The good stuff comes from the end it's as simple as that, so we want to smash out strikes asap. Can't believe you made a forum post on this😄
-
Sometimes its fun, but sometimes ots tedious. Ask yourself this, would you rather your random team mates leave when they get Valus for the 4th time in a row, leaving you to solo it? Or is it more preferable to skip some of the uneeded fighting. Also, bad juju bounty can be tedious if you take your time on every strike. I usually play how ever the rest of the fireteam is playing, and I will usually go back and help someone who is getting attacked by the mobs, but someone who just HAS to mop up every last enemy every strike can slow down a strike by several minutes. That sucks for the people doing juju bounties or those trying to bust out a couple of engrams to level cryptarch etc..
-
Why would I want to spend an hour doing a strike I can finish in 10 minutes? That said, I don't care if someone stays behind to kill mobs. I can finish a Roc solo...just don't expect me to stay behind and help. I've done each of these strikes many times...ofren, I'll be doing the same strike two or three times in a row. They are still fun, but the challenge becomes more about how fast I can complete them than plodding along.

Edited by Ukimoi: 1/19/2015 4:04:18 PMBecause I'm not going to waste my time killing a bunch of adds for one or two engrams and exp I don't give a damn about. I rather race to the finish, I'll see my teammates at the boss.
-
2 RepliesI usual do whatever my strike team is doing. If they skip everything I do, too. If there's one speed running and one hanging back I will be somewhere in the middle killing the bigger enemies to help the third guardian get through it faster.
-
Bad juju bounty, and grinding for the hopes of an exotic are both reason enough to get in and get out asap.
-
The beginning stuff is a waste of time in my opinion. I careless about vanguard legendaries. I rock a VoG primary or Exotic over a crap Vanguard weapon. Same thing for special and heavy slot. I use Black Hammer and Hunger of Crota. The beginning of strikes with all the level 2 crap is really boring to me.
