Why race through strikes? Are you having fun playing the game or has it become a grind for gear and funds?

Just curious, I have noticed a trend in which more and more players blow right past most of the bad guys and race straight to the "Boss Fights" often to a point of leaving a teammate who is fighting the minions behind. I thought the idea was to have fun playing the game, it seems more and more people are approaching the game as a race to collect funds and gear and less and less about just having fun with the gaming experience. Seriously, how can it be just racing through two thirds of a strike/mission? Am I off base in my observation? Food for thought: Excluding Night-falls, Heroics and Raids most of the legendary or better stuff I have gotten have not come from dropping a boss but just some lowly minion. I still clearly recall my first legendary drop. I was doing the Cerberus Vae III strike, dropped a Legionnaire thought I saw a "Rare" item dropped although the coloring looked a little off. I just assumed it was the way the light was striking the item (Since I had never seen a legendary before). Well low and behold I had my first legendary item just from some minion.

  • Honestly - after the 200th time or whatever you aren't doing them for fun, its like "work" game time. Your trying to do something and the strike is just the 'method' - but I hear you. If more people would 'turn on" chat at the beginning and maybe - ohhh I dunno, be social.....and talk then you could discuss it and run normal or fast. Peace G

    • Strikes are fun, but who hasn't done each one at least 100 times? Lol

      • Sounds like we need a group/clan. Those that enjoy the journey, want to have fun, are not in a hurry, etc.. I might even consider trying group play if such a clan existed.

      • I usually will just finish them as quick as possible because after you have done the same thing so many times it gets old. The only time I will not race through is if I need glimmer but want to get some marks and engrams in the process I will call in a glimmer booster an kill everything for the glimmer.

      • Will race through if I'm doing the low level strikes just to get the bounty for killing the end boss. In the ROC playlist I much prefer to make sure everything is dead before I move on

        • Yeah I mean I have a tendency to race through for bounties and such but I enjoy it with my friends we always have a good time. And I try to make sure that I get a good group in terms of funny and are laid back isn't that what it's about? I love doing the raids because I get with laid back people and I love it.

          • You're right, but if you're doing a bounty not a playlist & just want to complete the bounty why not run through it, if I run through I try not to leave team mates behind

          • Because strikes are not fun the 300th time you've run them. I just want to get my marks, xp, and rewards and get the hell out. If the Christmas noobs are still enjoying killing trash mobs outside the darkness zone, that's no concern of mine. Go with your own fireteam if you just wanna "have fun."

          • The ocd in me makes it very hard to leave red behind on the radar, but, I go with the flow, and mark it up as reaching the vanguard points a wee bit quicker. I see this happen especially on strikes that are on that week for the nightfall/weekly. After 6 run throughs @ lvl 30, peeps tend to be burned on that strike for a bit. My thoughts, go with the flow, if it's not your style, drop out after the strike is over.

            • Yeah I run through real quick when it's just a bounty I'm working on .. But like vanguard Roc or the weekly nightfall and heroic .. I take my time and do it all... It's just tough .. Ya know .. Doing the same strike hundreds of times .. So that's why run through quick on a bounty ..

            • I'm all for killing everything but I do what the team does. But most of the time the trikes come out and away we go.

            • 100% grind for gear. Not even grinding for gear to drop from the strikes, but the materials that they turn into because of the low probability of finding an upgrade. After buying legendary gear with marks or raid gear, strikes have yet to yield anything useful weapon or gear wise. The few legendary engrams I got turned into shards... which I have 80 of and nothing to upgrade.

            • I hate this, strike playlist is a chance for me to complete bounties or get the weapon experience I need or even a few engram drops. I have alot to do irl so it takes me a while to do bounties etc, and then I get griefed for not having maxed weapons/armour when it comes to a raid.... I dunno, maybe I'm ranting but its pretty frustrating. Unless your willing to play other people's way or have a good fireteam you're not good enough apparently.

              • The reason i do this is, simply put, I need to cap my vanguard marks as quickly as possible with my limited weekly play time.

                • Man you are so right. Almost every Roc I get two who leave me in the middle of mayhem even after I revive one. I have Carpal Tunnel so every so often, I need to stretch my hand for like 2 seconds only to be left in the dust. Even when my hand is fine I am abandoned so it isn't those seconds just dweebs. There isn't any prob racing past early enemies but in the middle of action they boost ahead and I am left for dead. It even happened with a guy on my roster on NF. He and his mate left me in the back with all the adds after the tank died while they ran past on sparrows into Septis Prime's area. I got on mine and tried to fly padt them. For their efforts and mine, I got killed. They were upset. My heart bleeds for them.

                • Once inside the first Darkness Zone, i tend to kill anything that moves. If somebody wants to run straight to the boss, no problem, just dont die there just to pull me along.

                • A friend and I were running RoC strikes for an exotic bounty. We had the random run off ahead during Valus right off the bat. We killed all the mobs and met him at the door leading to Iron Line. He had to run back and activate the console so we could proceed. I bet he was pissed. :D Then there was the guy in Phogoth who ran ahead, started the waves at the door, and got killed. We didn't revive him. We just kept on killing things, ignoring him until he respawned. Had another rush Archon Preist. Ran through the first room, and then forced us to him by dying in the darkness, then he proceeded to hide under a bridge hoping we'd do everything for him. We pushed him off the edge, and refused to go near the enemies. If you want to race through strikes, do it with a team of people who want to do the same. There are some of us who just want to have fun, and not be forced to go faster then we enjoy, simply because "you" want to end it faster.

                  • I enjoy speed running. After doing them so many times, trying to break speed records becomes a fun goal.

                  • Strikes are pretty dull imo. But I run them for the loot. Though I always pop consumables so it kind of sucks when the group decides to skip sometimes.
