I hate farming planet materials
Legendary gear - 80 materials
Exotic gear - 64 materials
It probably takes an hour to farm 70-100 materials, big whoop right?
But did I tell you it's going to be the most mind numbingly boring thing you've ever done?
Edit: Alternatives,
buy with glimmer or marks
buy with coins or motes
earn via missions; amount scales by difficulty
earn via crucible
Material bounties
Trade weapon parts or class materials for
Earn during patrols and public events
Edit2-update: You know it's boring when your ascendant materials out number your planet materials
451 ascendant materials
182 planet materials
I even have more strange coins than I do planet materials...

Will take you 21.76 hours to farm 1,632 materials if you're gathering 75 per hour on average.
To hit level 29 it will take 304 materials if you have one exotic piece.
To hit level 30 you will most likely replace those pieces with raid equipment. That's another 240
(304+240)3 = 1,632
1,632/75 = 21.76
21.76 very boring hours
This is not taking weapons into consideration.

I dont farm material. I just pick it up while im filling bounties on patrol or grinding gear level. I never make a special trip to get any Usually i have enough

Just upgrade your stuff when there's a patrol bounty.

But that would speed up game. Bungie know they made a pathetically small game, that's why everything takes forever and drop rates were decreased

7 RepliesFarming mats is honestly not that bad at all. Do some research. Learn some good routes. Farm 16 at a time or more if you'd like, just don't burn yourself out on it. Farming is not enjoyable, you must make it enjoyable. Also, it's the reward that counts. Farming is well worth the time investment in my opinion. As you can see I am level 30 and I have SEVERAL weapons exotic and legendary maxed, along with all 4 raid pieces and an exotic helmet maxed.

But I do agree with the rest of the ideas. P.s you make me feel sad for how much time I put into this game walking around in circles or squares.

5 RepliesIt's not that bad with a fireteam and going for chests which can give you ascendant materials, motes of light, strange coins, rare drops (11or so materials with rare engrams) and ships. :)

7 RepliesYour math is way off. You can gather 100 planet materials in around 20-30 minutes if you know a good route. Just type the material you want to farm in to YouTube and Bob's your uncle.

1 ReplyBAH! Dont think all math! Do it the way I do! I dont go flower picking until there is something I know I want upgraded and it is close. Then I go pick for just one upgrade before doing something else (either in game or out). This way, it is only about 5-10 minutes at a chunk. May not be the fastest or efficient, but it reduces the mind numb. I also combine them with other crap I hate, like the "do 6 missions on planet X" bounties. I hate those. But if I combine it with my flower picking, both seem to be less laborious.

I wouldn't mind then have mats drop at higher difficulty for the missions so i can get something for helping my buddies level their chars. Make the game more social and not such a grind!!! Give us reasons to do things and not just burn time to make the game longer!!
