All pinnacle drops at or below current gear power level
I’ve done about half the pinnacle activities this week and every drop has been at or 1-below my current gear. I’ll never get anywhere this way! I’m 1565 with 1553 equipment but it seems Bungie is not okay with me advancing.

I'm having issues too. I am 1552 - just got a 1552 for the pinnacle drop for the HELM weekly. It doesn't happen on EVERY drop (got a 1553 for Vanguard strikes for example). Super frustrating though to do the pinnacle activity and get a powerful instead.

8 RepliesPinnacles are determined from your base power, not the gear in a slot. Based on what your Hunter currently has equipped your base power is 1552. As such, all +1 pinnacles will drop at 1553 and all +2 will be 1554. Powerfuls and primes will drop at 1552 and all sources will drop at 1550.

Some of my pinnacles and powerful drops all dropped at 1550 yesterday. Kinda really sucks

VotD(one pinnacle per encounter secret chests aren't pinnacle), 100k nightfall, Vox Obscura(powerful cabal kill), Master Wellspring, 100k story mission, Iron Banner bounties, Psi ops 10 champion kills, 100k DoE, and GoA(only one of the final boss drops) are all +2 pinnacle drops. Everything else is a powerful drop. Pinnacle drops are not bugged, people get this wrong very often on the forums, there is no drop protection you can get a bunch of drops in the same slot if your unlucky. Your pinnacle drops are not effected by your artifact power bonus at all only by your highest total gear score.

Supposedly, it’s all RNG, but I have my doubts. Save your Pinnacles for last and try to level up your lower pieces of gear by using Powerful Engram rewards first instead. Once you get those lower pieces of gear caught up, use your Pinnacles, and they won’t get wasted as often. This strategy works quite well, but you will still get “duplicates”. It once took me 9 weeks to get a class item on my Warlock. Literally 9 weeks!

Don't know what to tell you. I've hit 1560 base without Artifact already on all 3 of my characters. If you do a little bit of research there are lots of postings on how to tackle your pinnacles and your powerfuls once you are at the hard cap of 1550.

Do all your plus 2’s and never have a problem leveling up. Once you equal out then plus ones, help back fill lower areas. Current raids are always the best place to level. So many drops, something has to hit what you need.

1 ReplyPinnacle drops are based on your overall light level and not the gear light level. Destiny Item Manager is a great way to see all those numbers in one place and see what pieces of gear you need to get to raise your overall level
