I am forcing myself to play Destiny 2 and video games in general. It isn’t because Destiny 2 is a bad game (I actually really enjoy it as my dad and older brother introduced me into Destiny 1), but because I lost one of the most important people in my life this past week and a half. My grandmother taught me how to play video games at the age of 2. She played with me side by side, literally watched and helped me get through levels of games like Super Mario Bros in the 90s, and later watched me complete the original Halo trilogy (Halo ODST and Reach included) while she sat in the back since her arthritis started to kick in. When I last visited her, me and her hung out, completed Super Mario 1, and literally a week later, she transcended away from everyone including me physically. This broke me. She was my second mom and even played video games with my mom and dad, watching them compete in Pac-Man and other games. People that know more of the story told me to honor her and to continue playing video games. This was the hardest part for me since every video game I play including Destiny made me think of her. Little by little, I played. I couldn’t get back into it. People on my friend list invited me to join them and I painfully rejected them, until I realized she wouldn’t want me to keep pushing others away. I regained my confidence and enjoyment for the game little by little, and yet, I still needed to keep going. I ended up playing freelance trials today and although I thought I wasn’t going to make it, I did. It felt liberating, yet I still feel it all. With that said, I would like to thank this community for attempting to support guardians who undergo real life trauma and are actually just good people in the end trying to uplift others. Thanks for reading. I know this kinda sounds like it went all over the place. It just feels like I’m embarking on something different now even though I know she is still with me.
