What's the point of prime engrams now??
I mean once you hit 950, they're useless so why are they in the game?

They used to drop a point ahead now they don't so this needs a fix, I have them dropping at 952 for 2 weeks.

3 RepliesTo level up other gear, let’s say if you have an old weapon you like that’s only 900. Also they always drop at your max light, so even if you’re 953 they will drop at 953.

2 RepliesAfter 950 they will drop at your current gear level. With the recent pinnacle changes you can reach the next power level and still have underleveled gear. A prime can possibly raise those missing gear slots by 1 so you don't absolutely need to get pinnacle drops for specific gear to advance. This helps because there are only a few places where you can get a heavy weapon pinnacle drop and some of us have horrible luck with rng.

They're mainly in the game for players who haven't hit 950 yet. However, even after that they're useful for evening out your gear.

Because everyone in the game was at one point below 950. In fact some people are right now. Crazy, I know.

Once your base is 951 (which can include a mix of 950, 951, and 952 gear), they start decrypting at 951 and so on. So, you will be using them to fill in the equipped gear that's still 950. This will continue to work all the way to 960.
