This Week at Bungie, we dive a bit deeper into Nightfall Scoring. We also speak to how Prestige difficulty is being addressed moving forward.
Dive in and read up!
Before we get to the details, Game Director Christopher Barrett has some context to frame up the essential fantasy that we’d like for the Nightfall to serve.
Barrett: Nightfall should be a challenging test that only the bravest Guardians dare face. Fireteams of any size should be able to participate, from organized clan groups to skilled solo players. Players should be able to determine their own challenge level, by going slow and steady or fast and wild, with elective modifiers to test the most hardcore veterans. Your final score will separate the best from the rest, and with high risk comes high reward. Each terrible villain that players face should have a very rare and powerful unique item, themed to them, that tumbles to the ground as they collapse into a pile of bones. Conquering Nightfall should be a badge of honor, with the best players able to show off their achievements with new dynamic emblems and exclusive auras.
That’s the vision of where we want to take Nightfall, you’ll be seeing the first of this direction in the next patch, with more being added over time.
With those goals in mind, we asked Designer John Favaro and Senior Design Lead Tyson Green to share some facts on how they plan to enhance Nightfall strikes.
1 ReplyEdited by MrPlebiusMaximus: 2/9/2018 1:43:45 AMGreat, looking forward to all of this, except the curated loadouts for prestige raid. Loadout locking I'm all for, but being forced into a specific playstyle for the week's challenge doesn't sound fun. If the examples you provided are accurate, then what happens to players who love raiding but haven't managed to get a Riskrunner to drop for them? They're just out of luck for the week that requires them to use one? I'd say keep the modifiers that encourage different playstyles, but don't force loadouts on us. Simply doesn't make sense for a game about customizing your character and flaunting the loot you've earned

Honestly, the Nightfall aura/emblem stuff sounds interesting. Could the raid mods please belong in an additional mod slot? I don't really like the choice between a mod which slightly boosts my stats all the time, or a raid-exclusive mod. Why not have both. Raid perks in D1 were also a bonus on top of regular perks. If it stays like this I'll have to farm another full raid set where I put in all the raid mods, and keep my current one with all-around mods.

Nightfall, solo emblem:)

Full original post here :- https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/242872230?page=0&sort=0&showBanned=0&path=1 On a meaningful positive note toward the future of in game content regarding Strikes;- How about duel boss strikes with the option to add mechanic’s to turn them heroic, a chance to add loot specific item’s, weapons, armour, exotics, ornament’s, modifier’s, shaders etc, to the end game, rather than constantly adding to the Raid’s or Trials loot bank and leaving out the options for the more solo players of the game. Its also about time that at least one masterwork was a guaranteed drop from normal Nightfall while two were guaranteed from Prestige and if strikes were to implement ‘Heroic’ challenges in future then these drops should implement an increase, just food for thought, have a chew, all me luv, hugs n slop Mx. Worth looking at the original post for the added notes, thank y'all for the observation and hopefully for some input ;)

1 ReplyLove the ideas of things to come. One thing I would suggest is something I suggested at the drop of D2. Set loadouts for PvP as well. Loadouts that change each week. You wanna make guardians better....make 'em use more than just auto rifles ALL THE TIME!
-
Very excited to run and re-run Nightfalls! I will, however, simply be referring to your "elective modifiers" as "skulls". This change is going to add a lot of replayability for me.

Fantastic news Bungie. So glad the timer is in essence ditched! Thank you!
-
TWAB continues to be awesome. Great communication,
-
This was actually a really positive/good TWAB. Happy to see they're continuing a string of useful updates and transparent info. This is how it should have always been. Engaging the playerbase and being honest. Good stuff.

5 RepliesTo everyone saying that the nightfalls “still have timers”: It looks like you can still complete the nightfall regardless of your score and earn rewards, so really, there is no time limit. The scoring is like an added bonus. If you do it within a certain amount of time and kill enough enemies, you get bonus loot! If you don’t, you still get nightfall rewards!

Edited by Austin_St_Kloud: 2/10/2018 1:00:16 AMdmg04 I get the feeling that Many people (my clan included) thought the nightfalls would be like they were in D1 year 3. Pick up a sunrise bounty, hit gold tier...beat the timer and get a weapon at your light level. D2 lands with the added prestige... I think many believed that the only difference for prestige would be a shorter timer to challenge those efficiently gifted slayers. Anyway- I liked the scoring in D1, thought it made it fun to out gun your clan mates. I look forward to see what you change.

8 RepliesI find myself excited to do Nightfall Challenge runs. Now can we please prioritize Vault Space/Collections? Nothing new that I can obtain excites me since I have NO ROOM for it.

Played this disappointment of a game for the first time in a while yesterday, to my surprise it has actually gotten worse. The crucible is just full of gemini jester scrubs. Guess what? Watering down perks and abilities doesnt mean that people focus on gunplay, it just means that when people find a perk, ability or tactic that works that people use this as even more of a crutch. The gunplay in d2 is far inferior to d1, there is far less of a skill gap and its not even fun. I suggest the devs (and anyone else that think this game is going in the right direction) go back and play some d1 to realise just how far this game has gone wrong.

68 RepliesEdited by KillShot_PR: 2/9/2018 5:21:12 AMPlayers: Remove timers from the Nightfall. Bungie: We hear you, now it will be scores based. Players: Great I will have time to have fun with my friends and rank up points while doing so. Bungie: Oh and you only have 15 to 20 minutes to actually get scores and finish the NF, before your score bleeds and you can’t get any more. Players: Of course you did, why am I not surprised.

2 RepliesEdited by IRON RUMBLER: 2/9/2018 10:14:13 PM
We also hope to extend the Challenge Cards to support more difficulty customization and deepen the scoring options
The Nightfall needs this and is a must to give the more skill based players a challenge and non skilled players a chance to find something to strive for and beat eventually. We all seem to forget there are different skill level players in this game and some need time to get better. They shouldn't be pushed to the point where they leave the game completely due to the current timer system in place and find no fun in it due to failing it constantly. Even if they take 2 hours to finish with the new system and the time bleeds out it will encourage them to do better the next time even if its 15 minutes faster. Currently the timer is unforgiving to less skilled players and they do make up a portion of the player base which people seem to forget.
-
Definitely a better system. Keep up the good work 👍

Thanks for the update. Another positive step, keep 'em coming. I would never attempt to solo NF with the timer at the mo because I know I wouldn't make it. If the timer isn't an automatic lose anymore then I could gradually improve my performance this way - the loot will have to be worth it, though. It's those sandbox updates I'm most waiting for, though, and to see what you'll do with dlc2. So with that in mind, a few things I'd love to see in dlc2: 1 Shaxx on commentary for a strike. He's one of your most entertaining characters so if it could be worked into story that he steps away from crucible to support a strike mission - and if you can afford/get Lennie James - that'd be great 2 void trace rifle... Surely? ... Please? 3 a wave based mode a la Prison of Elders/Archon's Forge 4 confirmation that certain vendors are ok - I am especially worried about our friendly neighborhood Spider Pirate #findEris #saveVariks

The nightfall changes sound great and I’m excited for that. But as for the new prestige raid system, that just sounds terrible. First we will be limiting content by only being able to play one prestige raid per week and the forced load outs sound ridiculous. How am I supposed to beat Calus with a sidearm, submachine gun and shotgun? That takes all the fun out of building your character and forcing us to use weapons that make no sense for a given encounter. Really hope you guys rethink that idea because for me it sounds like a step back on the raid department.

About time.

2 RepliesWill solo players be able to be competitive against teams of 3 in regards to nightfall scoring?
-
Lmao are they going back on their words? But that’s not the naruto way!!!

2 RepliesEdited by bignasty14950: 2/12/2018 12:51:57 PMGuys I’m just gonna say right here I never thought D2 was a trash game. I’ve always liked it. It just was never my favorite. I think Bungie is working to improve the game. I’m gonna play Crimson days this week. I’m gonna grind for all the gear probably. But I can’t wait for the nightfall update. I think I may have done 1 or 2 nightfalls since the release of the game. I may do several more with this new update! Thank you Bungie for telling us this. I think D2 will improve in the future!

I really want someone from Bungie to explain why we STILL CAN NOT find out what the CHALLENGES are BEFORE WE START an ACTIVITY. Even though I would prefer this in game, you don't even have to change the Game code, all we need is a Web Page on Bungie.net that lists all the Challenges for the day and for the Week!
-
1 ReplyHow about implementing post-game stats outside of the activity like in D1? Sometimes I don't get to see my score in Crucible or PvE and when the activity is actually over, I have to go on the web to see it? Come on man.
-
Or you can bring back the nightfall modifier... That will make nightfalls harder and also give better rewards
-
1 Reply".. and with high risk comes high reward" cosmetics are NOT a high reward.
