It's well known that cods online player count is fabricated by either bots or just straight lies, it started when cods decline started, numbers suddenly went up by huge amounts despite it being clear the playerbase wasn't there. It was never fixed + even now old cods have over 100'000 players despite the games being 8 yrs old and it being impossible to find games. Since huge furore during BO2 every cod since no longer shows numbers due to causing bad press when they drop.
Anyway, to my point. Destiny's PvP numbers have been dropping like a stone, trials report shows trials at its lowest ever number, twitch is dead, clans are dead, there's no one playing PvP and even PvE is under 850k. Then suddenly the last 2 days PvP numbers has jumped by 250k players, from 200k to 450k, for no apparent reason. So thought I'd hop on and do my call to arms. There's literally no one playing, in Europe at least. Had to wait 35 mins last night to get a game in competitive, just to unlock call to arms. Then I tried to get 5 quickplays, lobbies take forever to match, there's players spread worldwide, lobbies are laggy as hell, they appear to be heavily biased to 1 team regarding connection and latency. It's just a complete shitshow and not fun 1 bit.
So the question is, where are the extra 250'000 players? It's not even like cod where the excuse was 'theyre in zombies or private lobbies'. Is it Activision, is it bungie? Are the all in Uganda + matching each other?
It doesn't add up
Edit: apparently the missing 250'000 never went anywhere, mayhem wasn't stat tracked, so the total was never 200k but always a steady 450k, you just couldn't see them.

I don't think you ever played either of those games.

3 RepliesEurope has a smaller player base. That’s my first thought.

Back to playing and grinding The Division --- unlike Bungie, they did the right thing. They spent the last 2 years fixing their game with the help and input of the community. It's a nearly perfect shooter looter, where you get rewarded with gear that has random / unique perks, the ability to customize and reforge your year, multiple PvP and PvE modes you can select, including a hybrid mode, raids, survival mode, horde modes .... and most of it was given out for FREE in a huge update that was released in December. Bungie needs to take note and do the same.
-
BO1 and BO2 never hid player counts.... it was after Ghosts that they started that, because everyone could see that there were more people going back to Black Ops2 than playing Ghosts, which was the first time people ditched the new CoD in favour of the old en masse....
-
Yeah there is no way they are getting 450k pvp players when trials only got 140k for the week..
-
1 ReplyYES and COD #s are still being masked lol
-
3 Repliesyes they are lying about player counts. someone on reddit scoured the api and proved it already
-
9 RepliesWhy are you so caught up with active player counts? Bungie doesn’t make any money off of day-to-day players. They make their money with lump sum game/dlc purchases. The money is already in their bank accounts from when ppl bought the game. I really don’t think active player counts in a non-sub based game is as meaningful as ppl make it out to be. Game sales are the big issue.

4 RepliesGo to destiny tracker , they can’t manipulate those numbers...

k whatever u say

er.. connection problem? My matchmaking has been rather quick. That's saying something because I have HORRIBLE internet compared to other gamers, and it's Snowing a blizzard, which affects me as well. And saying that you are playing competitive it can be rather hard to find a lobby for some depending on a few things.

14 RepliesIm in UK played countless competitive games, all filled up within 15-20 seconds. I would check your connection as the servers are populated. Players are playing.

Bungie! Please don't give us up or let us down! We are your loyal fanbase, yet you clown around and desert us. We're all crying here, so bring them back before you make us say goodbye. All you do is tell lies and hurt us. #RandomRolls

That's odd, here in the UK I find games in CoO quickplay playlist in a matter of seconds. Completed the Call to Arms on all three characters extremely quickly...

2 RepliesI believe this is what your looking for. Someone posted it yesterday. https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/7q2k5b/i_finished_scraping_the_bungienet_api_and_have/?utm_source=reddit-android

2 RepliesBungie = Developer CoD = Game

Who freaking cares? Numbers go up and down. Stop obsessing.

Edited by gizzamaluke: 1/16/2018 6:00:55 PMNo report of player count for Destiny is ever accurate, ever... from any source. The Bungie/Destiny API (the engine used to calculate and provide these various statistics) states this clearly: https://github.com/Bungie-net/api (read through the list and you'll see numerous locations stating that data is either incomplete, missing or completely inaccurate).

14 RepliesIt was the weekend. It was also trails. Both those factors could contribute to a jump in numbers. PvP went up & PvE was up over a million at the weekend. It's dropped again now.
-
4 RepliesConnect the dots. CoD and Destiny are both published by activision. Follow the money. Over half of the money from a game being sold goes to the publisher. Find the truth.
Its a game. Not a way of life. Relax a little. Take a break from the things that stress you out every now and then.
6 RepliesUm, I was playing last night and matchmaking took a minute. Now, backing out of the lobbies where 4 of the players were on the same fireteam - that stretched out the time to match-make a bit...
-
6 RepliesI can agree with the laggy lobbies, spanning the globe. Been seeing a lot of European names and Japanese writing lately. (I'm in the middle of the US). While my experience with lag in D2 has been worlds better than D1, lately, I've been getting insta-killed (due to lag) or killed through walls. It's starting to feel D1ish.
-
1 ReplyI don’t have a problem finding quick play games in US last week. Takes a few seconds. I never play competitive or whatever tho
-
7 RepliesThink about this. It’s 450k players that logging in and played that day. Also across all platforms. Think they even include D1 numbers as well. From what some people say. Let’s say they didn’t have D1 numbers though. That’s 450k divided by 3 then the numbers collected over 24 hours. Game is dead. Averaging 150k a day in pvp on a weekend.
