Do you play with your fkn TV on mute?
In your inverted spire example.... What's going on it the Cabal were mining on Nessus and as they were drilling they poked a hole into a vex chamber, and discovered a powerful Vex Mind in there that they wanted to weaponize.
So we, as guardians do, swopped in and -blam!-ed that idea all up.
In the Pyramidion we are exacting revenge on the Genesis Mind to messing up ashers arm.
In Exodus Crash we are pushing the fallen out of the Exodus Black so they don't mess up failsafe any more than she already is.
In Arms Dealer we are stopping this smart cabal jackass from taking over the crusier that we disabled in the story and killing more people.
In Savathun's Song many many guardians when missing under titan, we go in to look for them then stumble upon a summoning ritual that must be stopped.
In the Lake of Shadows strike the taken have appeared in Trostland and have infected the water and food supply with their icky black goo, and if we don't do something many many people could get sick and die, or have to go without water and food.
ALL OF THIS IS TOLD TO YOU DURING THE STRIKES!!!!

I've got to agree with you. The strikes do a great job of presenting their narratives and are great improvements on D1's loading screen presentation. What's more is the fact that each strike has several different versions of the same story recorded so you have a chance at hearing different dialogue and experiencing a new flavor of the mission each run. Savathun's Song is a great example of this with Taeko easily being a new favorite Destiny character. "Real talk. I'm running low on ammo here and I don't know how much more my Ghost can take..."

Not very well, apparently.
