Seriously. Anyone complaining about the RNG factor of this quest needs to look back into the days of yore when deaths in the crucible counted against the progress and sidearms with ammo on spawn didn't exist.
I just completed the crucible step of this quest in about 9 rounds of supremacy. K/D be damned.
Special thanks to my void god roll Wormwood.
That's all. Now get off my lawn.
Edit: ...and complete. In less than 24 hours. Was running strikes looking for key. Dropped into Abomination Pit, killed ogre...Key Dropped right there...opened chest ...profit.
Now on to IB

12 RepliesEdited by Azure: 10/7/2016 7:52:15 AM*Implies we have no right to complain about RNG factor of the quest (i.e. the only difficult part) because in the Year 1 variant, dying pushed you back a bit* *Doesn't take into consideration that actually obtaining the quest was fairly doable as ALL bounties had the potential to get you an Exotic bounty, and that you'd get a choice of three bounties every time it dropped.* Would like to remind you that to get the thorn quest this time around, you have 4 chances on each character per week. Prior to this, you had 12 chances each character per day, and that's only counting the ones from the regular dude in the Tower. I don't give a flying f*ck if the year 1 variant (that I also completed, fyi) was more difficult or not, nothing matters in the slightest if the quest never drops for you in the first place. Not dying in the crucible was something you could practice. RNG is just RNG, there's nothing skill-related about it, so it can't be practiced. The drop rate for this quest is simply way too f*cking low. Luck shouldn't be the deciding factor for things like this, so I deem the low drop rate absolute bullsh*t, and I'm fairly certain many others will agree.

I used word of crota lol
-
Getting it drop for me has been far more difficult than any part of the year 1 bounty
-
But that work was worth it... today's is not. The new thorn is butts
-
2 RepliesWhen you get the thorn quest, does it go into the quest log, or in the bounty section like it did in year one?
-
2 RepliesHow does one start it again? Id look it up but I'm just lurking right now
-
Yeah one with a Hunter.
-
13 RepliesEdited by SpamTheDamage: 10/6/2016 10:52:09 PMThe funniest was hearing people say "oh yeah, I got that in 5 games. So easy" You got at least 100 kills with void weapons/abilities in 5 games? Yeah ok.
-
2 RepliesUsed my new thorn in IB last night for 2 games.....it is trash. Went right back to my Clever Dragon.
-
3 RepliesThe pain and horror it was, especially when you only had a void secondary and heavy (hadnt done raid). Luckily being a warlock helped
-
Exactlyyyyy. I was a hunter I got the thorn quest The only void weapon I had was a party crasher And truth No such thing as a Nightstalker I hadn't done VoG at the time Just a party crasher And truth And deaths count against you As a hunter You guys have it easy
-
1. The quest is rarer than y1 2. The quest is easier than y1 3. The reward is less than y1 Just a pile of garbage overall
-
Haha, I agree. Back in year 1 getting thorn was HELL! Every part of the quest (except for the motes and the first step) now it's so easy I completed 2 hours after I first received jagged purpose. While I am partially glad it's easy so I don't have to relive that he'll again, it's still a shame how easy it is for Kinderguardians to get now days.

Thorn is a turd compared to what it was. The "quest" is a laughable joke compared to Y1. It was nerfed before being brought back - nerfed to legendary status. Not worth the exotic slot at all.
-
I got my thorn bounty quite early on in year one and it my real first encounter with pvp. Was rough! But good old atheons got me through.
-
I remember in year one there was this guy with two thorns...coolest guy ever
-
Saved my word of crota for this
-
4 RepliesStill haven't gotten the quest and I've finished 4 ROI bounties a week times 3 characters. 36 turned in so far. Question, does it drop as soon as you turn it in no matter where you are? Or do you need to be talking to Shiro or something?
-
I might try to do vog again for a atheon epilogue. It bothers me that it got dismantled.
-
Yea, compared to Y1 Thorn quest this is like a walk in the park. But then again, it's shit now, just did it for the record book.
-
1 ReplyWhat you have to do for the PvP part?

1 ReplyEdited by KingPin1079: 10/7/2016 4:52:21 AMSo, so true. When i did the bounty in year 1 the only void wepon I had was the sniper from VOG and it took me a week to get all the kills required. This time around I got the quest line right before IB dropped and I finished the "void kill" step before I finished the IB bounties. These Taken Tots and Iron Pups have no idea how everything in year 1 was such a grind. But still vanilla was some of the best moments my gaming experience ever.
-
I never thought it was hard. I used a rare fusion rifle and just smoked it. As a defender titan. The guy you had to kill in the strike gave me more trouble than the crucible part.
-
Got the quest but I don't care about the thorn I didn't use it in year1 it's a bitch gun you shoot and run.....boring
-
Why are you calling them kids? Probably to further reassure yourself that you must be better than them because you've played the game longer.
-
Meanwhile I've done these stupid Shiro bounties and have yet to get the quest... ~ Nyahh! =^,.,^=
