There are cut scenes, but they are very short. Dark Souls is more punishing than difficult. Learning your enemies' attacks and avoiding, or interrupting, them is key. Learn from your mistakes, and you'll do fine.

3 was easy, it's only hard if you don't have patience. It's just learning boss attack patterns really. After you can read their moves it's just a dance.

It does have cutscenes, but they mostly consist of boss intros. It's hard until you get used to the controls and movement, but after that it's not that challenging aside from a few select bosses and areas.

DS3 was my first souls game. I hesitated about getting it because I heard they were difficult, but after getting used to it it's one of my favorite games. Every challenge can be overcome and the feeling of beating a difficult boss is amazing. The story is something you see and kinda infer for yourself as you play and see the areas and items. But yes there is cutscenes. Anyway dark souls is a must

6 RepliesThe souls series is not known for its up in your face story, yes there are cutscenes, but they are few and very far between. The story in each game is told to you by NPC quest lines, item descriptions, the small handful of cutscenes available, boss dialogue, and the environment. In fact many of the souls games have a heavy focus on environmental story telling, letting the atmosphere and very carefully placed props tell you what has happened. The NPC quest lines are some of the sadest and most heart wrenching in gaming. As many NPCs not only tell you were to go but assist you on your journey, fighting bosses along side you, and even helping you fend of invaders. Only for them to meet a tragic yet poetic end... What really makes the Souls series for me is a combination of the game play and everything mentioned above. Yes these games are hard, but trust me there isn't an experience like them in existence. At least not yet.
