I play the crucible for fun. When I go in competitively, I usually do pretty well. Most of the time I end up at the top of the list with a very positive k/d.
Sometimes, I get outplayed. I can admit that. I leave a game with a bad k/d because I made some poor decisions that game.
However, sometimes I let my little brother play. He is 7 and he dies a lot. Sometimes I create fun challenges for myself like: I cant reload or I have to crouch for the whole game.
If these things ruin my k/d, so be it, but I dont think it means I am "bad" at the crucible.
Edit: By the way, I was terrible in year 1, but now I do pretty well. If the overall k/d reset in year 2, I would be much better.
This is why I say no. Because even though I am good at crucible now, my old games from when I was bad drag me down.
Edit: A lot of people have given me some great responses stating why they chose no and yes.
In many ways, the answer is both.
If you have a low k/d, you might just mess around alot. You might have fun and not give a crap about your k/d. However, if you try really hard, you can easily score at top of the list.
If you have a high k/d, you might be very serious when you play crucible. That is fine if thats what you enjoy. Because you are a serious player, you will have a higher k/d.

no. assists do.

My kd go down so much after the crucible quest

3 RepliesSkill, kd does not require hmmm?
-
I think win:loss should be better recognized then kill:death.
-
Yes it does-- to a certain extent. I used to suck so much ass at PvP and now I'm fairly good at it, usually sitting on a 1.5 KDR most of the time. I did tons of PvP but I was super bad at it, so I don't take KDR as an accurate representation of a player's current skill level.
-
Same. When I actually want to do good I will end up doing good, sometimes top of the table. When I just do it for the sake of it I don't do as well, who cares.
-
Not necessarily. I hate the PvP in this game so I'll never bother trying to "git gud". I haven't been top 5% in a game in over a decade (shit happens when you get older) but I hold my own in PvP when I'm actually interested in it.

1 ReplyK/D determines consistency not skill.
-
Generally yes

The answer is "no, k/d doesn't determine skill in Destiny PvP". Why? Because Destiny's PvP is bad. Maybe a game like Call of Duty, can you look at someone's k/d, and say that they have some skill. That's because k/d has a meaning in that game.
-
It could. But for the large majority of people it doesnt

We all know people are lying in this poll.

Edited by Moot: 11/4/2015 3:36:06 PMPartly. But many other factors can affect your K/D other than skill, so it's not exactly accurate.
-
1 Replyif you can prove to me that you can hold your own in 3 consecutive games, your on my trials team any day
-
This isn't BF4. K/D does not always determine skill.
-
I play really good sober and really bad drunk so it is what it is. Not getting paid for it so I just have fun with it
-
I think it does because it shows how skilled you are with the gunplay...I like to try crappy guns for fun and it brings me down a little bit the people that are very good win a gunfight with any gun...try hards suck though
-
1 ReplyNope. Played with a kid with a 2.2 K/D in trials, he was absolute garbage. Never will think that kd = skill
-
I'm a team/objective player myself. Whether with blues or a team, we have those days where we suck wind. It happens. Then there are those days where you're Mongo holding everyone down with a piano in the saloon. And I do admit when I suck wind, I usually end up shutting down 1st place people or their streaks. And while I'll be in the bottom 4-6, I take a little evil pleasure in I kept someone from having a higher KD. And yes, I'm around .75 - .86 depending on where you look.
-
I think that k/d doesn't always mean you are a skilled player. There are people who boost their kds to look good and there are players who simply are good. Only way you can really determine someones skill is in a match. You can figure it out pretty fast if someone is truly skilled.
-
Heck no! I refuse to be a sweaty try-hard that protects my KDR by using the same weapons and class all day, every day! Sometimes I just want to have fun and go around and bash people's skulls with a sword hilt. It's for fun... Even though I probably went 5-15 in the match, those 5 kills were AWESOME!
-
Obviously it's not the only stat to look at to determine skill but it is one of the few options we have to show us this. Majority of the time it does determine skill except for some situations like those people that say they let' friends/family play on their acct, etc.
-
KD= how many skrubs you rek in a day. If you mainly play competitive matches you will go .8-1.2.
-
i rekon it dosen't because yr one i was hopless but now i have started getting very consistent positive kds (especially in rumble) and i have started to get a couple of the gold medals ( unbroken and sum of all tears once each)
-
It does not - not in individual games and not overall really, either. kD has too many variables, for example, your in a game with rather bad players and get more kills than deaths as a result. OR Your matched against a very good team who own you in such a way it has a rather sharp effect on your overall KD. Also, mayhem mode. Its real easy to get a good number of kills to lives lost of your constantly raining supers, and also very good chance to go down multiple times to supers So, no, kd is good at representing your skill within a single game, but your overall kd is not necessarily an accurate measure of your skill
