I play the crucible for fun. When I go in competitively, I usually do pretty well. Most of the time I end up at the top of the list with a very positive k/d.
Sometimes, I get outplayed. I can admit that. I leave a game with a bad k/d because I made some poor decisions that game.
However, sometimes I let my little brother play. He is 7 and he dies a lot. Sometimes I create fun challenges for myself like: I cant reload or I have to crouch for the whole game.
If these things ruin my k/d, so be it, but I dont think it means I am "bad" at the crucible.
Edit: By the way, I was terrible in year 1, but now I do pretty well. If the overall k/d reset in year 2, I would be much better.
This is why I say no. Because even though I am good at crucible now, my old games from when I was bad drag me down.
Edit: A lot of people have given me some great responses stating why they chose no and yes.
In many ways, the answer is both.
If you have a low k/d, you might just mess around alot. You might have fun and not give a crap about your k/d. However, if you try really hard, you can easily score at top of the list.
If you have a high k/d, you might be very serious when you play crucible. That is fine if thats what you enjoy. Because you are a serious player, you will have a higher k/d.

4 RepliesEdited by A4EEL007: 11/5/2015 6:35:38 PMPeople that suck will vote no. Scrubs keep capping the wrong flags and flipping spawns making us lose. Keep telling yourself your 0.87 k/d helped the team more than the guy that finished top lol.

k/d doesn't determine skill skill determines k/d
-
No. I think K/D determines you lifetime kill to death ratio

Edited by Senor Funny: 11/6/2015 2:21:27 PMPoll is biased B. 8

"Yes and no" should be a poll option:)
-
Would you rather have a guy with a 4.0 kid on your team or a .4
-
Kd simply gives a general idea. You should never go by kd alone.
-
I think KD determines your skill but only to a certain extent.
-
Everyone knows and may not admit k/d, medals, shaders, emblems all mean nothing. .....they are just "extras" to give people something to chase after.
-
Only kd I care about is trials
-
This is not a simple yes/no question. Too many factors at play. Game type, your role on the team, scenario, etc. However, good players have a positive k/d. Simple as that. Doesn't have to be 4.0, but has to be positive.
-
Like I say to all of these posts: it matters to an extent. It is usually the quickest and easiest way to gauge someone's general skill level, but it doesn't always tell the whole story. However, if yours is extremely low like around 0.5 or lower then you either let your young kid play on your account, completely don't care, or are really bad.

Does my K/d make me a "good" Destiny PvP player?
-
I'd say average score per match, with knowledge of the most played game type, is a better way to judge skill.
-
It's a reasonable indicator but doesn't determine skill. There are a lot of outside factors and a lot of other things that come into play. Overall, there is no one thing in this game that will tell u someone's skill. Light level, grimoire, time played and k/d are all half decent indicators (some better than others) but will not give a full picture. K/d is also rough due to the numerous game modes where kills take a back seat to objectives. The only way to really tell someone's skill level is to play with them.
-
only in rumble.
-
I watch people in the Rift playlist go positive and never even care about the objective.
-
Maybe individual skill. But I know some good players that suck at being team players.
-
It's a good indication, so yes, but it's not the only factor.
-
5 RepliesSo 63% of people are going to look at my kd and say that I'm not good at this game?
-
There's a monthly kd for everyone on destinytracker if you really believe you play better than from the beginning of destiny
-
Last night is why I said no, 10 games in a row, put kn teams with absolute noobs, no matchmaking, it just shoved us on the most losing team What "matchmaking", you should just throw beans at a cup whichever ones land in the cup fight, itd probably more fair

1 ReplyTwo reasons I said no: 1. all of my current characters were started during tlw/Thorn fiasco of y1 and I got them to max level via crucible. Starting when they didn't even have a double jump. 2. I like to fool around and use different weaponry. I try out most guns with rolls that seem fun or useful. I also have a game I play with clan mates where we have to use whatever the crucible drops us, no matter how terrible. With the new meta, my K/D is slowly rising as I get used to my new favorites and how the new weaponry is and what people tend to use. So glad I'm not getting two shot anymore before i even know where im being shot from. That and I'm rather enjoying all the new snipers floating about. Gives me a challenge to go beat them. I've always enjoyed sniping more, and I've become a fairly good one with about 77% of my sniper kills being from headshots.

I mean I think Kevin Durant would be a pretty good judge of skill

Edited by Skyrender6: 11/4/2015 3:29:17 PMIt determines your ability to stay alive more than it does your ability to play objectives. And in Trials specifically, you can be an excellent player with a not-so-great k/d. My kd for elimination mode is between .95 and 1.02 on my characters, but 1) I have been to the lighthouse nine times and 2) I have never been carried. I've also seen many cases where the winners of a trials match all have negative k/d's while the losing team is positive. In my case I've been on both sides of that scenario, numerous times.

no. assists do.
