Do you think k/d determines skill?

Yes

No

I play the crucible for fun. When I go in competitively, I usually do pretty well. Most of the time I end up at the top of the list with a very positive k/d. Sometimes, I get outplayed. I can admit that. I leave a game with a bad k/d because I made some poor decisions that game. However, sometimes I let my little brother play. He is 7 and he dies a lot. Sometimes I create fun challenges for myself like: I cant reload or I have to crouch for the whole game. If these things ruin my k/d, so be it, but I dont think it means I am "bad" at the crucible. Edit: By the way, I was terrible in year 1, but now I do pretty well. If the overall k/d reset in year 2, I would be much better. This is why I say no. Because even though I am good at crucible now, my old games from when I was bad drag me down. Edit: A lot of people have given me some great responses stating why they chose no and yes. In many ways, the answer is both. If you have a low k/d, you might just mess around alot. You might have fun and not give a crap about your k/d. However, if you try really hard, you can easily score at top of the list. If you have a high k/d, you might be very serious when you play crucible. That is fine if thats what you enjoy. Because you are a serious player, you will have a higher k/d.

  • No you can't. If somebody has a shitty K/D it doesn't mean he is shit at the game. Maybe he is good at raiding, or he simply doesn't give a -blam!- about being good, or he just wants to have fun playing with trash weapons in normal crucible. Everybody is good, but if you want to see if a fish is good by making him climb a tree it will spend is life feeling useless

Omg, WHO CARES????????????? Why do all you kids insist on making everything into a competition? Just play the game and have fun and stop worrying about who has the bigger emotional and mental penis.

I go Flawless on every character/every week and always get to Rank 5 for IB early in the week. I only have a .80 to .90 at highest K/D (but average a high amount of assists). K/D is a weird thing, in regular Crucible like Rift/Mayhem/Clash or Control I get around 16 - 27+ kills per match but yet my K/D doesn't budge. In Trials I have almost a 60%+ winning ratio and again win/pull of positive K/D/A's. So K/D can be misleading to an extent. I've played guys with .90 to low 1.2 K/D's that are absolutely amazing and also guys that have 2-3 K/D's that just fall apart. I think at the end of the day it's about patience, communication and identifying the other teams advantages/tactics. Trials is a good experiment, if you mix up your pattern most teams can't adjust (because they typically favor sides/strats that worked in a previous game). I'm by no means "awesome" at PVP but I still really love playing it and am not the type to rage. Looking at solely K/D can usually generalize a player's skills, but that doesn't mean you always steam roll them (unless it's super low like < .5 or so).

    • No....K/D is not the best stat to me....I credit a guardians earned medals...tells you more of their style than their ability to not die....K/D doesn't tell you what kind of team player they are. If you run 6 guardians on a team with high K/D, not all of them will get their kills...only so much to go around...unless the entire team holds down sniper lanes & the enemy keeps coming to you like a carnival game....feels good to win, but no fun in light of true game competition

Depends on how low or high the k/d is. Edit: also depends on game types. Clash and rumble make sense. Rift? Only thing that is how many slam dunks you can.

      • It's usually a pretty clear indicator of skill. There is no such thing as a bad 2.0 k/d player. Unless he joined one crucible match, got 2 kills and one death, then quit and never played again.

I'll say what I said on Battlelog about this subject. K/D does matter, but its the entire picture. I remember in BF4, there would be a lot of high K/D players, but they would be garbage because they sat in a vehicle and wouldn't move with it. Saw a lot of those high K/D players who called themselves extremely skilled, and then when it was time for a scrimmage, they would get annihilated. Some players would call themselves the best tankers and well, they didn't live up to that when I faced them. You have to look at everything to get a good picture. For BF4, to tell the good players apart, you would look at their Score Per Minute, Kills Per Minute, and Kill/Death.

      • K/D is an indicator of skill not the only one though... one too many times has a high k/D players cost me a IB game, salvage, zone control rift, etc.. because they would rather protect their k/d than play the objective.

          • All I can say is: when I search lfg page for trial players, I look for high kd people. So far, not one of those with high kd, like 2.0+ has been bad, rather the opposite. But their buddy with ~ 1.0 did not perform as well.

          • High kd in game types like control rarely ever are a sign of any skill because you're abandoning the objectives for your own purposes. I prefer to win the match rather than have a godly kd. Everyone has their own preference. BO3 breaks your kd down by game type.

              • K/d is important. Capturing objectives is important. Being a contributor to the team (kills, assists, objectives) is what I like. People who give up or just sit in one spot getting a kill every three minutes doesn't help anyone. In Control, the players I want are those that are willing to risk it and fight back to hold objectives. I'll take a 0.5 player with 6 caps over a guy with a 8 kills and 2 deaths with no caps. My KD is decent, but that's not all that makes a good player.

Very rarely do I go negative and am not in the top two when I actually try. Most of the time, I Pvp to complete side quests, bounties or gunsmith weeklys. I am a solid Pvper in nearly all games I have played. I ran around a 3.0 KD in COD. On destiny, my KD is around a .9 I believe. It's only because I don't take it seriously in the least. I could hop in a match with most any groups and carry at least a 1.5 at this very moment. In destiny, KD does not matter much and is only slightly useful to determine skill level. I would say a 1.75 KD and up is a respectable player. I would say 1.0 and down is a mixed bag of players that are any of the following: bad, excellent but don't care, or decent.

              • Depends on the number of games, if they've played like 7 games and have a 10 K/D? Ya, no... If they've played 10,000 games and have a 5 K/D, yes... Very much yes...

              • I camp and snipe: ratio is 4. You engage the enemy and ensure a win: ratio is 0.56 Who is better? That is what your ratio means. It means nothing unless you are comparing like and kind. Among engaging battles, a higher number means you die less in the same situation. Since you don't know how the number was acquired, you can't compare, hence, they are just meaningless numbers. When comparing any ratios, context is paramount. Therefore, stating any k/d ratio and comparing it to any other k/d ratio is meaningless, unless, the circumstance which they were both obtained are similar and statistically significant. Since you can't know that information, only Bungie has those data, your comparison is 'apples to oranges', and meaningless. So, NO...
