Killing Oryx unrealistic?
So after reading all the known parts of the book of sorrows, I find it nearly impossible to believe that anything short of a god or the traveler itself would ever be able to even stand a chance against Oryx. I don't see how it could ever be possible for a group of 6 guardians to defeat the monstrous, ancient, world eating god that Oryx is portrayed as in the book of sorrows. Sorry, but I'm just not buying it. Anyone else feel the same way?
Edit #1: i get that his tithe was cut off and he was weakebed, buteven if we were strong enough to challenge him in a weak state why didn't he just sing the doxology and call upon the deep before we had the chance to touch him?
The developers created a character that in my opinion was too strong to realistically kill.
Edit #2: everyone is talking about sword logic but I'm fairly certain that sword logic only applies to the hive. Other races don't have "worms" to feed, and sword logic revolves around the concept of feeding your worm so I don't see how it could apply to any non-hive beings.
Edit #3: thanks for all the people telling me that its a video game and nothing is realistic, I wasn't aware. You have been a tremendous help to me and crucial contribution to this post.
Edit #4: I'm aware that a vex was able to emulate sword logic and use it for himself, although I don't think its a stretch to assume that he actually just became stronger through his own means rather than sword logic because the vex mind can change and transform itself with relatively no limitations. And I don't see any evidence that guardians can actually use sword logic. I don't think I was any stronger fighting Oryx than I was earlier in the raid...

We're talking about a being that has exterminated hundreds of species across the universe over thousands of years, and suddenly he comes across our solar system where we're already on the brink of extinction, and we somehow kill him in his throne world??? I know that we have to win because it's a game, but I'm not a fan of how some devs make the boss so OP that there should be no way for the player(s) to conceivably win.

6 RepliesWe did not kill him. We went to ascended world by infusing crota's soul, and Oryx along with his sisters can not be killed in the ascended world. Oryx can only be killed by starving his worm. However since we are now infused with the soul of his son we have replaced crota and are now feeding tribute to the Oryx's worm. Therefore we are making it stronger. It is important to remember that Oryx has not compassion to anything, including the hive or his son. All he cares for is the eradication of "Sky" and for his worm to be fed. This is why he has killed his offspring number of times and also his sisters. Oryx knows that guardians are powerfull because we are infused with the light from traveler, and with the help of Eris he has tricked us into becoming strongest army he ever had who feed his worm with tribute of thousands of kills. We have all turned to dark side and will soon have to find a way to cleanse ourselves from the corruption, or simply embrace the fundament.

Because Guardians have plot armor, that's why. Whenever you read a book, see a movie, play a game, you're supposed to suspend your belief of reality. Things happen in a story because the writer(s) wrote it that way to further the plot.

It's a miracle Guardians can kill anything. Taken hobgoblins that kill you AFTER you kill them, big black balls of blinding destruction rolling at you constantly, chain gang tethered enemies, heat/body seeking Cabal gobs of goo, Knights of the flaming arseholes shooting their loads, triple shielded hydras............................aaaaaaah and that was just in yesterdays daily strike :)

1 ReplyI like to simply think that the book exaggerates the glory of their God. After all, hard to build the religion/ society of the hive without a godlike creature at its head, so exaggeration would suffice I guess

If I'm not mistaken, none of the races and worlds Oryx destroyed were able to wield Light as a weapon. Sure some had advanced tech thanks to the Traveler, but I think the Guardians are the only ones who can actually use the light. If Oryx still hasn't been able to destroy the Traveler, then it makes sense that Guardians would be able to stand up to him.

They should of done all the bosses before oryx as raids themselves so your weakening oryx as u defeat each raid just my view and yes i havn't even done the raid yet

Other people have explained this really well but I wanna add the idea of sword logic working for us in the same way it worked for the vex. The people we have killed to get to oryx strengthened us so that he is not equal to us but he also isn't far above us. Also we are not facing his full strength but rather defeating him with his own logic
