Kotaku did an amazing write up about what happened to destiny, joe statens story, and generally explains year 1 destiny and dlc HIGHLY worth a read.
Idk of many will see this with a million threads about no time to explain, but I highly recommend you read this and bump it for others to see.
Thank you and have a nice day. To everyone thanking me I just want to say this is NOT my work I just saw it on reddit and made a post over here about it. To thank the real author I recommend you leave a comment on the original article to encourage this kind of reporting from all the news outlets.

1 ReplyFantastic article that both legitimizes my complaints with the game and gives me mad respect for the devs. They busted their asses with the hand they were given.

11 RepliesWhy? Why is it worth my time if I do read it? Then what? What changes?
-
1 ReplyI'm glad they didn't release it with 3-5minute cut-scenes after every mission - it took them over a year to add the skip button!!!

5 RepliesEdited by Fools Meta: 10/22/2015 3:02:51 AMAfter reading the entire article, I don't understand. Jason said he didn't want a "linear story", well, all they would have had to do, was add in side quests that would be required to continue Josephs original story missions (Example: Like I have to do this mission to get a ship before I can go to the Moon). I suppose that is still linear, but it would give the player an actual sense of progress, not to mention being almost drowned by the immense story and lore that Joseph and his team came up with. With Destiny setup in that way, we would have had an actual story, and in order to even do stuff like raids or "The Grind" we'd have to complete the main story line, or campaign. Which is pretty much exactly what they did for the Taken King. Sounds like a "No Brainer" to me... But, Bungie made a stupid decision, and now Destiny will be (as far as I can see) forever marked as a sub-par game (IMO). The Taken King was quite fun so far, but once better/newer games come out, Destiny will be hitting the shelf.

Wow. This would have been the best game ever created if they stuck to the original plan.

Pretty sure i read an almost identical version of this article on these forums sometime around december '14

2 RepliesIt's so hard to not like every post in this thread, except for the ones disagreeing. I think it has to do with being a writer myself and knowing editors or in the case of film scripts, directors, can just say this is shit, start it over after all that hard work you've done. And you've just got to deal with it because this is the only way to make money. By the way, I'm a photographer now. I am my own boss. What's funny to me is that Staten was told his story was too linear but then the released campaign ends up being way too linear as well. I want to see that supercut for myself to see what Destiny could have been. It'll probably be so much better that I'd just become angry and quit the game.

Based on the original story, that would definitely mean that the Stranger is talking to Osiris in the cutscenes. He was bent on learning everything about the Vex and i believe he did. Thats why the stranger can travel thru time.

5 RepliesThis is nothing more than the Reddit story rehashed

Im disappointed about cutting the story. But i understand better and have more respect for the bungie employees now! Thx

Fascinating read and honestly sounds like just a shitty situation all around. This sort of shit happens more than you would think in the game industry. It just doesn't usually get dragged to light unless the studio goes under. Plus Y1's saving grace is how spot on the feel and control of the game is. Which sounds like it was a result of focusing on polishing the mechanics over trying to cobble together a new story. Its sad, but honestly the game would probably be dead at this point had they chosen to focus on the story rebuild over the game mechanics. What really surprised me though was hearing on the back end just how terrible the development tools for the engine are. 8 hours to open a game map for editing? Holy shit. No wonder they had to take Vertigo out of rotation rather than just hotfix it. The dev tools sound like a nightmare and explain a lot in terms of the development.

Twilight is a better love story than destiny.
pigs flying

rocket beams can't melt steel fuel
2 RepliesIt's funny because the current story for Y1 and Y2 are just plain linear. If they would have just stuck with the original story and moulded around it instead of spending resources to re-do it completely, we would already have Europa and probably even more planets. Just think, maybe even we could have been outside the solar system by year 2

3 RepliesEdited by SHREDENVAIN: 10/22/2015 5:08:54 AMOK I read the article yesterday. Here is the problem I have with some of the info. How in any way whatsoever does destiny have open world gameplay or story? The only thing that could possibly be considered open world is the patrol zones. Which has nothing at all to do with the actual story missions. This doesn't add up in my mind. The Destiny we got is not open world. Open world would be story missions being playable thru patrols without having to go through the director. If bungie's idea of open world is patrol areas then why can't they exist outside of the story missions originally planned by Staten? LIKE THE GAME SHIPPED!!! I believe the original story was cut from Destiny, but I don't buy the reason given in this article.

Should have just went with the original plan.

4 RepliesThere's more story and intrigue in the creation of Destiny than there is in actual Destiny.

6 RepliesEdited by Dro-Logic: 10/21/2015 8:25:55 PMOp taking this source as a reliable source is like thinking fox news saids the truth about everything. It's like if I said "someone in the white house told me bush was black and Obama is white I don't have full evidence but trust me because someone told me and they work at the white house"

Edited by XenomorphWraith: 10/22/2015 5:55:09 AMYeah it sucks that a lot of content was cut, but I still like the game. I only hope that all of the great content that's locked behind bars is finally released and placed into the story of Destiny 2 (or whatever they end up calling it).
