The level cap has been raised again so soon. This is turning into a grind fest. People are barely hitting 310 and are complaining about unfair raid drops such as receiving gear you already own at a lower light. Hard mode is going to have armor dropping above 310, instead it should yield elemental primaries along with armor that can possibly be maxed at 310. Destiny always had some sort of grind but it's never felt this bad and with hard mode coming along its only getting worse.
Bungie has created a carrot that is nearly impossible to obtain. Some simple numbers to support my statement. Current raid armor drops anywhere between 300-310, that's a 1/11 chance that you will get a piece of gear at maxed light. If that wasn't bad enough it seems the vast majority of people are getting more mouldering shards than anything else. Armor drops are infrequent and on top of that the raid can only be completed once a week for rewards.
Exotics are another option to obtain max level but even then it's another endless chase. Since 3 of Coins has been nerfed a large portion of players are reporting infrequent exotic drops even when using the coins as they were meant to. I've used about 60 coins since the nerf and from my experience for best results you need to wait 20 minutes between usage. I've netted an average of 1 exotic per 5 coins using the aforementioned cooldown time. Less than a handful of those were maxed at 310. If the item you want to infuse is less than 305 then it will not reach 310. A lot of random factors involved right? To make things worse, the engrams are random as well (obviously). So 7 different possible engrams, 1/7 chances the one you need drops. Plus the chance that it actually decodes to max light. It's an endless grind!
For once the odds are really against us! This will be an endless grind to attain overall max light. The closer you get to max, the harder it will become to attain overall max light level.
Edit- Lots of people saying Destiny is an MMO and it is not. MMOs do not raise the level cap so often like Destiny. World of Warcraft for example, Mists of Pandaria was released in 2012 and then the next expansion, Warlords of Draenor was released in 2014. For TWO YEARS the level cap was the same but the game had enough CONTENT to sustain a healthy population for that long.
Which brings me to my next point, grinding ≠ content. Some people are saying grinding for gear is content, it baffles me that people actually think that. Grinding the same content over and over again for better gear does not equal content. How does anyone even think that?
Edit 2- WoW raises gear level every several months. Not twice in a month and the gear isn't a random light level like ours. My point stands. Also for those that keep mentioning VOG helmet. It's not one piece of gear that is keeping us from the new cap and even without the VOG helmet you could reach the cap as a "fake 30" (fun times lol). We now have to reacquire ALL weapons and ALL armor for the new cap, not just one item that is keeping us from the current cap.

4 RepliesWorst of all is raid gear and weapons drop anywhere from 290 to 310. It's a bit demoralizing. Raid gear and weapons should start at 305

Everyone is always in such a hurry to get to the max light level, how many hours do you have a week to play this? I like that there is always something to be done at the moment, better then rerunning VOG again to try and get one more ascendent shard.

Light level is your gear score. The level cap is 40

All I will say is 3 weeks!
-
I agree... I think that after 8-10 weeks of raiding u shud be 310.. If they could make that happen I would be happy.. I just want them to make the grind a little more consistent.
-
There is no difference at all if they had introduced 320 cap right away...

Well if Bungie brought all the year one content to year 2 as in end game content, then we would at least have more variety to grind. But they have no monetary motivation to do it. We keep them in business by still playing. It's a choice. I still play but hope for more content

1 ReplyObviously you're new to Destiny, or else you'd think back to the vault of glass and say "ttk isn't so bad".
-
Bungie knows good games are coming out and they are trying to keep players, that's why .
-
Im glad they are raising the level cap or id pretty much be done again and done is not a happy place to be.

while 310 is the max, it isn't that big of an advantage. You don't have to grind super hard for a tiny benefit, it just makes the game less fun.

Who skipped to the last paragraph?

The grind is getting really old now. They just can't put out much content under the current model. If the HM raid doesn't have elemental primaries its basically pointless. There is no reason to care about being max level anymore except the bragging rights (which aren't even warranted for as it's luck). Destiny is no better than it was last year when it launched in terms of the grind. Same small, boring strike list? Yup. Same kill the exact same enemies on patrol as last year for quests and bounties? Yup. Hours of material farming? Yup. Good luck carrying the game for 10 years under the current model. If they don't make things more interesting with Destiny 2 and beyond, this won't be a franchise I continue with (and while I'm sure they don't care less about a single person leaving, I promise I won't be the only one). On that note, how about something that's actually challenging Bungie? Maybe an exotic quest that isn't just running one of the same 3 modified strikes?

I think it's a good thing that it's tough to max out in a week like HoW. Why is everyone complaining?

Couldn't agree more. Raid stuff used to be worth grinding for because it had better perks and was more fun to use. The only reason to grind for this set is the number they attach to it. It used to be grinding for interesting gear replaced the lack of content and now it's just grinding for a number that is only relevant in the part of the game that you have to beat to acquire it. I've grinded the crap out of normal mode but I think I'll skip hard mode, leave Destiny at around my current 308 LL and move on to Halo or Fallout.

You are missing the best part of Destiny. Raiding/running strikes with others is the best part of this game. Play a strike with your buddies and even super-shank and undying Mind can be fun.

What baffles me is that people are still going on about this "grind to the cap" nonsense. The reason they are raising the cap is because Heroic King's Fall is Light 310. Once you hit 311, there will be literally no point in going higher, just like there is no difference between 301 and 310 now. You will be above PvE enemies' Light, dealing max damage and taking minimum damage. You will be within 10 Light of 320, so even if you encounter someone at 320 in a level-advantage enabled PvP playlist you will not experience reduction in damage or take more damage from them. Disclaimer: I know most of us have somewhat addictive personalities and we will grind as long as it takes to hit 320. But there's no reason to do it now except that you want to.

15 RepliesDo people honestly want to have everything handed to them after one raid?
-
1 ReplyYou want to be done with everything in a week? Let them space shit out and keep giving us new shit to keep it interesting. As for 3 of coins doesn't help much? Way wrong I get atleast 1-2 exotics every day using less than 15 cards. Sure you don't get one every time but if you space them out you can get one in about every 7-10

1. It was supposed to be trials, but that got pushed so they had to rush hard mode a bit. 2. If those "2 years with no level cap" how many times did the gear get upgraded?
-
8 RepliesI find it extremely ridiculous because both vog and ce dropped max level gear on normal mode
