Rocket Launchers are practically useless now compared to other Heavy Weapons

Unless you're running a competent Fireteam (which seems to be the theme of TTK) then rocket Launchers have become useless. I only mention a FT because it takes a fireteam working in harmonious synchronization to time the rockets otherwise any bad-a$$ enemy with a sheild is going to regenerate their sheild between rocket blasts or reloads. Case in point, I was running tier 3 CoO a bit ago (mini crota). This is by far the easiest tier three boss. As a 308 I can drop this dumb lug in two swords assuming the guys on the ground can get his sheild down. These two bozos (both above 300) just couldn't do it with their 300+ rocket Launchers. Of course it was a couple of randoms but you would think after 3 trys they would figure out the timing, nope. Despite their ignorance it still brought to light the utter uselessness of rocketlaunchers. Outside of PvP what's the freaking point of having them (even then I've seen players survive a direct hit).

    • Everyone seems to have forgotten how to do crota, this guy is just a mini crota. Same thing . Not that hard . Everytime I do it with randoms they just run up swinging swords at him and keep swinging swords when he's dow doing no damage. You need the Knights sword to damage crota, exotics do shit to him

    • I find them viable in both. Some bosses you just can't sword. The rocket ammo boots perks don't seem to work all the time though which is annoying

    • Truth is very solid in PvE and PvP. Takes out mobs well (blast radius helps), tracks Wizards and other teleporting/dodging enemies. In terms of single target burst, the sleeper Simulant is better than any rocket launcher currently however.

    • I think that RLs are finally fitting the function they were meant to fit. Machines guns are for sustained damage against single target, Swords are high risk/reward dps, and RLs are for burst damage AOE. RLs, shouldn't be doing as much dps as MGs to single targets. Given the risk of getting up close and personal with a sword, they should be doing as much damage as them either. I think they are just fine as they are now. It's just that they are situational weapons.

        • I'm seeing barely ANY with tracking now. Was it removed? Or did Bungie weight the perk roll for it like they weighted the rolls for many other supposedly legit RNG in the game?

But I understand your point, rockets need to be timed for mini crota otherwise his shield comes up too quick

                    • I have a launcher with cluster bombs that works well for groups of enemies that will light you up if you stand out and hose with a mg, but outside of crota I always thought a good mg was a better option for nearly every fight. I have high caliber rounds on all my machine guns to keep bosses that can one shot me from doing so.

                        • My Dragon is an absolute monster in both pve and pvp. I killed someone earlier and the rocket nearly completed a loop to hit the guy jumping to avoid it. Maybe you're using bad rocket launchers.

                              I've been playing this game with the same crew since day one. I hear what some of you saying but you have to admit something is off. No one in my crew (myself included) uses Rocket Launchers anymore, their effectiveness vs other classes of Heavy Weapon has waned. In any circumstance, you can do far more damage to a target or group with a Machine Gun or Sword. I'm not hating on Launchers, hell I love them but they're just not as a effective anymore.

                            • RL just are not face roll anymore. You could blindly fire a proximity rocket before and almost always get a kill. Now proximity actually requires you to be close to your target to trigger the effect. RL are fine. Just make sure you are getting a RL with close to max blast radius.

                              Lol it's more that people just got so used to GHorn tracking so they can't hit the broadside of a barn with their rockets now. Gotta lead the target a bit! That being said, overall I agree that rockets are pretty much a PvP thing now. Even then a great MG is likely preferred unless we're talking Trials/Elimination. Also, a surprising number of high level players have no clue how to handle mini-Crota because they never did real Crota! Lol.

                              • Lmao I can take down Mini Crota by myself with just 2 rockets. Can even easily be taken down by just primaries and snipers.
