For those who didn't believe in the 'slippery slope' of Silver...

Notice how in the return section of Eververse Shop it says: "Consumable items are nonreturnable" Notice how there currently aren't any consumable items in the store, only emotes. This means that you can assume they'll be adding consumable items sooner or later. Current consumable items in destiny provide XP boosts, glimmer boosts, and even increase to exotic/raid drop rates. Making these available to buy with silver will make it pay2win, which the majority of you denied would ever happen! I can see it now. A 'free' raid with ridiculous drop rates, and the only way to increase them is to buy a consumable item that increases them. EDIT:
They also nerfed the drop rates for motes, strange coins, and weapon parts today. Coincidence?
EDIT 2 (Jackolytes):
For those of you bringing up the jackolytes, notice how they are the only cosmetic consumable item (along with the other halloween item xur sold). They only last for a limited time because they coincide with a holiday, and like their holidays, these consumables also last for a limited time. I think that people wouldn't want to pay real money for something that only lasts for a limited time, and has no real impact on your game. I also think bungie would be logical enough to realize this, leaving the only possible consumable items to be ones that effect progression and would make the game pay2win. Also, only adding jackolytes wouldn't be a bad thing(although i would never buy one). I think we should all be more concerned about the potential of pay2win items.
EDIT 3:
People have spotted new consumables in the Database. Some Max out your subclass and increase raid drop chances. Whaddya know?: http://db.destinytracker.com/items/consumables/consumable
EDIT 4:
Just stating that this is just speculation and I only know just as much as all of you, and don't claim to be 100% right. I'm not trying to argue, whine, or be hostile with anyone either. :] Also, I don't want to be right because these changes could ruin the game for myself and a whole lot of others.
EDIT 5(Urgent): Statement from Luke Smith: "We aren't (nor are we planning) on selling consumables that buff King's Fall drop rates for Silver." While I'm sure a lot of you are pleased(like myself), he seems to be avoiding the possibility of adding other consumables in the shop, like motes, strange coins, and other items we've been talking about. Seems shady if you ask me, but we'll see...

  • Six or nine months hence, a dedicated gamer who's been playing Destiny since Day 1 or before, faithfully completing every activity the game has to offer multiple times and earning the very best weapons and armor that one can earn, will enter his or her first match of a new Iron Banner. Within seconds that player will be completely wrecked by some 12-year-old with access to his parents' credit card. The 12-year-old will have been playing Destiny for less than a week, but he'll have purchased the even better guns and armor then available under Bungie's newly-implemented pay-to-win system. And, of course, apologists will be insisting that Bungie's newly-implemented pay-to-win system is not in fact a pay-to-win system. The proverbial camel's nose is now under the proverbial tent. The scenario described above is inevitable.

  • This doesn't effect gameplay. You can still do just fine without them and they drop regardless of whether or not you buy them. Not to mention we can get silver in-game so no actual money will be needed if you farm a little.

    • No one cares if they add coins or motes to the shop, or xp boost for that matter, as those items are for noobs to help them, they by those while we get the free dlc. Done and done. Thank you bungie.

      • I think as soon as Fallout 4 comes out I am done with Destiny as a franchise. They've just alienated me too much. TTK was not all that they hyped it up to be. It was overpriced and mediocre. Now the microtransaction crap. I rarely go a day without getting more annoyed. The problem is that the game is like heroine. It's fun, but it's also like heroine in that it ruins your life (gaming life).

U can trust luke smith word as much as u can trust a hooker. He has NO SAY. Activision suits call the shots to them he is a peon. And will do as told.

          • Any of you people who are willing to continue to pay money for something most of the community has already payed close to or over $150 for are absolutely out of your mind. You've spent that much money and even in the game's current state post-TTK, HALF of the content you paid for is completely useless now! So to date, most of the community has paid over $100, and is able to play roughly half of content they paid for. Unacceptable. I'd rather see Destiny die off and bungie/activision get crucified by the gaming community that see micro transactions become the new norm in full priced games. Hell, EA is already tinkering with the idea. If we sit back and do nothing, these companies will continue to find ways to siphon more money out of us for less content.

            • I have no problem if they sell consumables that bump people to level 25 and give them a full subclass, nor do i have a problem if they sell consumables that increase xp gain from enemies. The only problem i had was with the consumable that gave increased raid drop chance. Apparently the consumables were added to the data base before TTK and they were going to be consumables that you could buy from xur. The consumables did not work in testing however and they took them out of their plan for TTK and replaced them with the Three of Coins.

            • Or it could just mean consumable items like the jackolyte from year 1, which would have no impact on gameplay so whatever.

                • Pay to win. What' does that mean? It means pay real money to have the best stuff in the game. There is no "best" stuff in destiny in the first place. Everyone has their own play style, and even if a single gun was considered the best, a consumable item would guarantee the drop, just possibly increase the chances at 1. If a new player wants to save some time but spending real money to get a 25 character or an xp boost, let them. So far it's not pay to win. It's emotes. Could they sell more important stuff? Yea, but any game could. I remember playing dead space 3. A game with a single play and coop story. They had micro transactions. I thought who would actually use these. Well, I'm sure somebody did, but I still beat the game and didn't stop me from playing. By not buying the items it didn't impact me at all. If you're against it don't use silver. I plan to use what they give me and that's it.

                • I'm a bit amused at all the people that think this will 100% for sure not happen. I can see them selling something like the exotic drop rate shit that Xur sells, for silver during the week, among other things. It's totally possible, and from a business perspective, it'd be a good move. There's plenty of people on this game that won't leave it no matter what. Bungie has -blam!-ed up or -blam!-ed with or straight up lied about tons of things to do with Destiny, adding in "pay to win" microtransactions won't make anyone left in this community go anywhere. Bungie is a mess lately, multiple things they've done has been for greed. The shit with Marty being a glaring example. Bungie completely lacks any kind of integrity at this point. False advertising, lies, not informing the public that their story got scrapped only a couple months before launch, along with tons of shit advertised and talked about, it's all just a bunch of -blam!-ery lately from them. To expect more -blam!-ery, like pay to win kind of microtransactions? That's the smart thing to do. I can see why so many Bungie employees flew the coop, they likely learned the way this company was going, and had enough decency to say -blam!- it.

                  • the last patch had some data mined consumables. One such item said something along the lines of, "when consumed exp maxes your currently equipped subclass". I suspect this is they type of consumable they may have in mind for silver. no real advantage, just sves a few days of bounties on a new character
