Did you expect another year of Gally-like driven play, where half the community was left out of groups because they weren't lucky enough to get one? Bungie will never put another weapon like Gally in our hands again. Even the most hyped weapons will never touch the power that Gally had.

Why is it lame? It's not like it was handed out. You had to do a specific quest line to get it. This game is quest driven to a point, what did you expect? Not every gun in the game can be a special thing that only people get by getting lucky. Also, it's really not that great. It's just cool to have.
