You really think we're stupid, don't you? These microtransactions are simply a way to milk more money out of your loyal fans. You're exploiting the younger population the same way Candy Crush Saga exploited kids by them using their parents credit cards to buy stuff. And to the older audience, you are simply thinking we'll buy into it.
You say we'll never need them, you say that it's only cosmetics but we all know that's not the truth. You will eventually put weapons and armor that give you an advantage over players who choose to abstain from these purchases.
This a poor business tactic that free-to-play MMOs use to garner profit but we bought your game and expansions and there is no reason for these transactions besides corporate greed. If it does only stay cosmetic then cool that's fine, but I highly doubt, with your (Bungie's) reputation in this game, that that will always be the case
We know where this is going, and I, for one, am appalled.
EDIT: This post isn't about having the money to buy this or not. Never once said anything about that. For those of you that couldn't gather that, you should probably invest more in reading lessons than emotes.
EDIT 2: We're trending guys, keep it up!
EDIT 3: If you disagree with me, please give me an educated rebuttal rather than just calling names. I'm open to discussion and compromise on how this should work as well as the speculation of others.

I'm all for this move if it benefits others... http://kotaku.com/sources-destiny-will-get-paid-cosmetic-dlc-and-free-ne-1734800399?utm_campaign=Socialflow_Kotaku_Twitter&utm_source=Kotaku_Twitter&utm_medium=Socialflow I can't think of another game I've put this many hours into... I personally love supporting the gaming community as a whole (bought into Clash of Clans, Candy Crush, Plants vs Zombies 2, Angry Birds 2 etc) not because I got suckered into buying to win... I'm not very good at most of those games cuz I'm stuck at certein levels, but I love the games and feel the need to continue supporting something that brings me hours and hours of enjoyment... Sounds dorky but whatever... I like to game... =)

You realize that Bungie is a business right?

People don't want to pay for dlc people don't want to pay for expansions people don't want to pay for extra stuff people don't want to pay for upgrades people don't want to just appreciate the wonderful game we have been allowed to take part in by a company that I really do believe knows how important their fans are bc otherwise they wouldn't have left one of the largest companies in the world and rolled the dice on themselves yet all we do is sit here and play their great game and slam them for anything and everything that they try to do after listening to all the moaning and groaning and actually taking steps and making changes to what a small potion of their audience was complaining about. Now they just complain about something else and now what they wanted before isn't what they want now. This is a joke and exactly why I can't believe Bungie ever even opened that door to giving in to all of the moaners and groaners who just spam the forums with the same trash every single day bc they know, from past interaction with the company, that if they complain and whine enough that eventually Bungie will break from their vision and give in to them. They have to put their foot down and stop this mess.

Yeah, microtransactions are some kind of gateway drug .... Here's your intelligent rebuttal: Microtransactions exist because they are a non-traditional revenue stream that improves player engagement at the same time. They are not always the best idea; analysis has to be done on "what will happen if we offer (x)," and guess what - Bungie can also built predictive mathematical models to get an idea about what would happen if you could buy armor weapons, or whatever. If in-game purchases catch on, the math still has to support any changes to it. You might not see any, because we already have placed to buy weapons, shaders, ships, armor, etc. - but there are all kinds of ways in which Eververse could bring in a ton of revenue without impacting gameplay. So, in a nutshell, its asinine to complain about Bungie trying to open up some new revenue options while introducing new window dressing to the experience. If it turns out that no one wants to use it, fine - but if it has a negative effect on players, well - that kiosk has been empty before...

How many guardians were happy to buy extra Red Bull for codes to buff xp? I don't even drink the stuff and I got a couple, mostly out of curiosity to see how much the xp buff really worked - drank 1/2 the can and poured out the rest, tasted like carbonated nyquil it was $5 something for 2 can deal for what- 30 min of xp buff? I've thought about getting a couple more to have on hand if I have some interesting weapons/gear I want to level asap - I'd trade real $ for something that saves me tedium/boring time so I can jump in on the stuff I actually want to play much in the same way I got a better bike rack for my mountain bikes so I spend less time loading/unloading and more time riding.

4 RepliesLook at gta 5... It's the exact same model and it works... I have not paid a single dime to play that game and I still play it and it's still being updated for free

First off, I'd like to say if eververse ONLY offers completely cosmetic shit that have no affects on gameplay, ever, I'm all for it. Will probably even buy some. Now, if they offer slightly better things than you can obtain normally, excluding raid gear/other high end game content(nightfalls don't count). EG, selling 290-305 light gear would be acceptable. The raid would still be the most viable way to get 310. Also note, the above model is only acceptable if A) ALL future dlc is free. This means buying destiny 1, 2 ,3 or 4 grants all respective dlc for that year(buying D1 would grant TDB, HOW, AND TTK). And B) there is still a way to "earn" slightly less powerful items with the actual destiny game being the only purchase you make. However, if they decide to sell a single thing that is more powerful that anything you can "earn" in game without spending money, there'll be a huge problem.

2 RepliesI agree, it's a slippery slope from here.

Lol he just roasted half of these replies with that first edit

1 ReplyBump advantages should be earned not bought
-
5 RepliesSlippery slope fallacy. Yes it's possible they'll continue adding things for purchase leading up to engrams and exotics and such (which would be ass. BUT it's equally possible they'll actually leave it at cosmetics Not only that but if they follow the model of other games, there could be massive improvements with the added income. Free content (possible), actual server implementation, (hopefully) more features (very possible), more updates (entirely likely), etc.

Edited by NobodyJustBrad: 10/6/2015 8:17:00 PMNo one is forcing you to pay for anything. People like me will gladly buy cosmetic items. And people like you get the benefit of free extra content from the extra money we're spending. They are a BUSINESS after all. People work to get paid, not for free. There's no gear being sold at the moment. If they do say they will do that, then sure, complain all you want. Otherwise, seeing as all you're going to be missing is a few emotes and maybe some shaders or ships at some point, and you're getting extra actual game content for nothing, sit down and keep your mouth shut.
-
I'm with you 100 percent and also see this as an opening for bungie down the road to charge for other than emotes. You can't tell me bungie all of a sudden can't afford to fund for their content team with 20 million people funding for the game and DLC's. I swear they must think we're the stupidest player base on the planet. This is first and foremost an FPS and really, who could give a rats ass about emotes besides the under 15 crowd?! I see "free" content down the road being less than optimal and I hope they don't lump DLC's into the mix to find this way.
-
Edited by Lebron: 10/6/2015 7:53:41 PMI agree here although I genuinely doubt that their intention is to make one guardian have an advantage over the other. I really do believe it is just a cosmetic kind of "personalization" for your guardian. I think it's cool because it allows diversity. A good way to compensate for those who don't believe they should have to dump any more money into this game would be to have the silver drop at a very slow minimal rate. That a way you can get a new dance over time if you wanted to. https://youtu.be/oHOZpjg2BZA my montage btw if anyone cares
-
Agreed. Microtransactions, cosmetic or not, is poison. Buuuuuuuut...... We kinda brought this on ourselves. Not you or me per se, but people who buy into these models. Mostly kids that spend their parents money and don't know the value of it. But sure, I'm with you. Even though I've been tricked by Bungie time and time again, I'll give them this last chance to prove me wrong, mainly cause I liked TTK. If the free updates are good, I won't say another damn word about microtransactions. IF... they only stay cosmetic, that is.
