You really think we're stupid, don't you? These microtransactions are simply a way to milk more money out of your loyal fans. You're exploiting the younger population the same way Candy Crush Saga exploited kids by them using their parents credit cards to buy stuff. And to the older audience, you are simply thinking we'll buy into it.
You say we'll never need them, you say that it's only cosmetics but we all know that's not the truth. You will eventually put weapons and armor that give you an advantage over players who choose to abstain from these purchases.
This a poor business tactic that free-to-play MMOs use to garner profit but we bought your game and expansions and there is no reason for these transactions besides corporate greed. If it does only stay cosmetic then cool that's fine, but I highly doubt, with your (Bungie's) reputation in this game, that that will always be the case
We know where this is going, and I, for one, am appalled.
EDIT: This post isn't about having the money to buy this or not. Never once said anything about that. For those of you that couldn't gather that, you should probably invest more in reading lessons than emotes.
EDIT 2: We're trending guys, keep it up!
EDIT 3: If you disagree with me, please give me an educated rebuttal rather than just calling names. I'm open to discussion and compromise on how this should work as well as the speculation of others.

Bungie and activision are trash. This game lost a lost of customers and by the looks of things people continue to leave. Soon they will pull the plug and everyone who still is around will be left with a disk worth hundreds that you can't even play.

I totally agree with your post, well said!

11 RepliesI disagree with you, and I will even explain why it is better that they do this. First off i don't believe your argument is that strong in the first place because it relies on the huge assumption that they will eventually have non cosmetic items in the shop. Truth is we actually don't know if they will ever do that and in fact there is more evidence that they will never do that which can be seen in the way Activision ran World of Warcraft. They introduced mounts and unimportant cosmetics to be bought and they kept it that way. This example shows not only does Activision have experience with this situation, but that they will most likely not cross that fine line. Now I'll explain why this is actually better. To understand why this is a better move you must look at the game that shipped and it's dlc so far. 1. Vanilla destiny shipped with a huge lack of content but not only that, it shipped with a huge amount of locked content that was already made into the game. All the dlc show this but TTK makes it fairly obvious when the paradox daily introduced what all the secret questionable areas in VoG were for, they were for that paradox daily because you go into the second jump puzzle, crystal cave, activate the vex gate in the distance, and go under trials of khabr. Other examples from previous dlc makes this obvious. So their dlc has already been planned for all of destiny 1 and is clearly on the disc. 2. Now each dlc cost about 20$ but TTK cost 40$. The TTK was actually the only acceptable dlc, the others had so little content those should have been free updates, especially because they were already on disc. Now they are only going to have free update rolling out which is what they should have been doing however there are going to be sellable emotes in exchange. 3. Dlc, mainly Destiny's because it's on disc already and completely planned out, is worse than micro transactions because you are technically paying for weapons and other content AND on top of that not purchasing the dlc excludes players from features that were present in the base game. 4. When you compare the price of the first 2 dlc combined it equals about 40-50$. Now that same amount of content is going to be free. While they will have buyable emotes it is not essential to buy them, but rather we can each individually pay for as many as we see fit. For instance I'm not forced to buy a 20$ dlc but I have an option to buy a few emotes. How much I buy will be based on my income and how much I want to support bungie/Activision. More hardcore players with money will buy more than a few emotes and some might spend a lot of money on them, while others might not spend at all. The dlc aren't technical free because the money still needs to come from the emotes, however the people that want a lot of emotes will naturally spend more money on them over the course of months. So yeah thanks for reading all the way here I'd like to know what you think of some of my points.

4 RepliesThe best reason for Bungie to give us microtransactions is so they can start making DLCs free. If enough people buy these emotes that is.
-
It's a free market. You only by what you want to buy.
-
Here's my "educated rebuttal": there will always be someone complaining about something that can be complained about. I'm not saying you, as much as a general populous can always find something to complain about, in this case, a worrying situation. Now these transactions may lead to gear and stuff that gives advantage, but they find future dlc. Next topic to complain about: if it's free, it's going to be garbage. I hear it all the time, that this bad idea (microtransactions) will lead to new free content that will be bad because it's free. In my opinion, we just have to wait and see what happens in our future, as bungie doesn't listen to us, and we cannot control the future of this game. For all we know, bungie may do a good thing and in a perfect world situation, make microtransactions stay as cosmetics, and make great free dlc content. All we can do is wait.

If they don't charge for expansion material your argument will be irrelevant because they won't be making more money per say.
-
I can't wait to buy all the emotes

3 RepliesNew games around the corner halo 5 and fallout 4 wont do this
-
3 RepliesIt doesn't affect anyone's game. Leave it be.

TRUTH TRUTH TRUTH TRUTH
-
Agreeing with you 100%
-
you forgot to mention that they can take any dance or class item out of the game before its put in and make it have a price instead of being free.
-
If they do what warframe did I'm ok with the micro transactions

Edited by Imhotep: 10/8/2015 1:17:14 PMIt's a modified buy to play model. If you are actually an "older" gamer you would know this. It's very common in mmos and in major titles doesn't go down the pay to win path. It's a common revenue stream for online games and it will be used to fund future dlc. How bout trying to take a more mature approach and see how this plays out before jumping on the chicken little bandwagon.
-
2 RepliesIF these micros are used to fund future dlc i am conpletely fine with it. I think it is HIGHLY unlikely that they will add anything but cosmetics to the silver trade system. World of warcraft has microtransactions in the form of cosmetic mounts....that did not break the game.
-
I choose to remain optimistic about the whole idea.
-
I just feel like they will invent a trading system for weapons etc.. You can trade everything for silver. Not weapon for weapon.. But weapon for silver and then the silver for another weapon. Like a trading market with silver like a "middle man"
-
Anyone who thinks that this won't turn into engram shaders and probably max level toons being able to be purchased is a fking moron.
-
12 Repliesmicro transactions may save this game. hopefully guardians who can afford it will invest enough on cosmetic nothings to keep this place running so bungie wont have to keep locking out players every few months to force as many as possible to buy the mandatory dlc packs or implement a true subscription. your reaction is a bit short sighted. they should sell arms and armor too, just so long as the stats and perks are no different than regularly available gear.
-
Hey bud.. I think your tinfoil hat has a few holes in it.
-
Ok fair enough if you're a little on edge with this whole thing because of what's happened over the past year but, no one can prove this is gonna happen. On the flip side no one can prove that we're gonna get free content because of this either but it's very likely so for now the best thing we can do is just wait and see where this goes and at least try to be nice. Ok, so you don't want to buy stuff like this, others will, don't be a dick to them just because of that fact, they can spend their money how they want and likewise can have no criticisms on how you spend yours. And all this shit about corporate greed... Well it's something that I can kinda actually see coming from Activision considering cod but when it comes to overall things like this, bungie still needs Activision to produce the content being released for destiny so they get final say on how certain things are like costs and perhaps even release dates... Think of it more like a really excited child wanting to go play with their friends but has to be "kept in line" by a very strict parent... Anyone have anything to add?
