It has taught me about how bad the world is. How bad people are.
Every other online forum or community I've been in has been more respectful and just more decent than this place. From other game forums to Twitter communities to a bunch of sites with their own chatrooms. For me, this place ranks at #1, for the worst treatment of other human beings.
Sure, there are places even worse than here, but I don't go to those places and that also doesn't excuse how awful some people are on here.
Bungie.net has a mostly American community. When I was younger, I had always thought that the United States and where I live (Canada) were very similar. I didn't think there was really much difference.
But as I see things on the news, with Americans showing such hatred and ignorance towards other people, I started to wonder.
I've never lived anywhere but in Canada. In this province. In this city. I've only been to the U.S. a couple times and it was when I was really young. I hear people say "Canadians are so nice," and I'm thinking... "Really? I've seen my fair share of unkind people..."
But I've never seen anyone harass or attack someone because of their beliefs. I've never seen people harass or attack someone because of their sexuality. I've never seen a person harass or attack someone because of their gender identity. I've never seen anyone call a person "autistic" just because they have a certain interest. I've never seen anyone harass or attack someone because of their race.
But I've seen all of that on the news about America, and I've seen it all on here. A community with a high percentage of Americans. This place has just shown me how shitty of a place this world can be. Where when there are almost no laws, and complete anonymity, how so many people will abandon any sense of humanity. People who may be decent to others in real life, but are not like that online.
But I know that this isn't an unstoppable thing. I've been on online communities where people were respectful and decent to each other. I know that not everywhere on the internet is doomed to be some cesspool of douchebaggery.
I don't know why people can't just be nice to each other. Why people can't just live and let live. If I meet someone who's Muslim, that's fine. If I meet someone who's Christian that's fine. If I meet someone who's gay, that's fine. If I meet someone who likes anime, that's fine. If I meet someone who likes My Little Pony, that's fine.
But do you know what's not fine? Being an asshole to someone for no good reason. Someone has a different religious belief than you -- SO WHAT? Someone isn't attracted to the same type of people as you -- SO WHAT? Someone has different interests than you -- SO WHAT? You're the problem, if you have a problem with them. You're the one who's created generalizations about these people. Hiding behind a screen does not justify that behaviour. It does not make it okay. It's just sad and pathetic.
Maybe you wouldn't get banned so much if you actually started behaving like a decent human being, and not like a piece of shit.

Edited by AAAAAA: 10/3/2015 7:09:43 PMI was waiting for the twist at the end and it never came. It felt like I'd been reading for hours, foolishly hoping you'd manage to trick me with a funny Bel Air, in turn announcing this thread to be a joke. But, it never happened. I was distraught. Hit with a flurry of emotions. Hatred, disgust, confusion. There was only one solution. I reached into the top drawer of my father's dresser, and pulled it out. The shiniest piece of chrome on the block. I loaded it, cocked, shot, and dropped to the floor. Everybody walk the dinosaur.

8 RepliesEdited by savage coco: 10/1/2015 1:55:19 AMThis place honestly isn't that bad & if you blame it on, "a majority of people here are American," you're extremely stupid. This is how the internet is, people act different then they would in person. It's not that hard to just log off and walk away or just ignore it. Post like these do nothing & frankly I don't want to read about you complaining. If you can't handle the internet, then don't go on it. I hate to sound like an asshole, but it's the truth.

No one cares what b.net taught you

1 ReplyWould this be a bad time for a racist joke?

1 ReplyNonono, blame destiny and its huge haul of 12 year olds and CoD pegboys. The site isnt really just bungie.net since there's a crapton of new toxic players that don't know or care how things use to be around here.
-
1 ReplyThis forum was great because people could speak their mind. You needed tough skin to get by here, none of this tumblr "waah you disagreed with me prepare for ban" crap. It was a hive of adolescent male namecalling and crap forced memes that somehow became funny. If you want a "nice" forum thats highly moderated so your special snowflake feelings dont get hurt then go there. This is what the real world is like. People dislike you based on first impressions, and they will be mean for sport. Its beautiful if you dont take it seriously.

A tad hypocritical there at the end... You "generalized" the bungie forum goers and then from "behind your screen" implied these people are "pieces of shit" Look I understand these forums are toxic. But explaining how you judge the thing you judge does not make it a fair judgment. If you want things to get better kill um with kindness. Support nice post. Don't let it bother you! When I see some terrible post I'm astonished, a little tickled, extraordinarily confused...but why let someone on a video game chat forum get you worked up. None of it matters <3
-
That's a shame
-
While I agree that the Bungie.net community is full of judgmental assholes- I don't believe it's all because of American's. I live in Canada, I've met my fair share of cunts here. I just feel like if you're going to address the judgement on this forum, you shouldn't group Americans as if they're all bad.. It just makes your opinion biased and well, invalid.
-
1 ReplyFor those who thought "TL;DR": "America is to blame for cyber bullying, hatred, and is full of bigots, and that's why I'm complaining. Not to complain about internet trolls, but to complain about Americans". That sums it.

Most on offtopic are not that bad, nice even, its just a a few who are really bad and kinda ruin the fun

Long read stealth. You could have added in a tl;Dr for some of us.

3 RepliesYou have problems. Most of what you say you have issues with are playing around, and most people here know it. Someone said I should be deported for putting ketchup on my eggs, and so the -blam!- what? I'm not gonna take that kind of thing seriously, and neither should you. It is fun to rustle jimmies, and it is fun to see what ridiculous things someone will say to try and rustle yours. If I say, "ew a dog-lover" I'm not gonna actually mean that the person disgusts me because he likes dogs, and neither should he take it seriously. In case you can tell, this is not a serious community. We make jokes. We take jokes. Grills will be swarmed with Lenny messages. And most of all, "it is scientifically impossible for OP to not be a fgt." Another thing you should keep in mind are that most of us here are male gamers whom do their socializing online. If you're gonna complain about how "mean" we are on b.net, blame the male gamers who do most of their socializing online, not the U.S.. When I first got here I figured that most were European anyway, and I still do think that.

Edited by Lightish Red: 10/2/2015 11:59:34 PMGeneralizations are strong with you. It's not a good thing. Not everyone is like this. You just found a strong concentration of people who act big and bad on the Internet but are extremely insecure in real life

3 RepliesEdited by Caggus: 10/1/2015 4:10:40 PMThis is the Internet, people will be dicks over nothing because they want a reaction. Congratulations, you literally just gave those people exactly what they wanted. Grow thicker skin already. Edit: Congratulations on basically blaming the site's toxicity on America.
