Shouldn't our Engrams be decrypting at close to our light levels?
I am currently a level 293 Titan and so far all of my engrams have been decrypting at 260 or less what the heck? shouldn't they be at 280,290 or better? this system is not rewarding us for what we have put into it.
I have been decrypting engrams one at a time and equipping them to bring my characters level to its current 293 status
but after i reached that level it seems everything is coming in at low levels 260, 275, and at the high end 280 but nothing even close to my level and whats worse I ran a strike with two friends and they both got level 300 weapons and I got zip,nada, bupkis.
any explanations or suggestions to what I may be doing wrong?

With my best gear I'm light 304 and I get mostly 270 armour and weapons from engrams.

Yeah, I'm 291 and I get a lot of 265 crap. Although, I got 300 blue helmet yesterday from an engram.

Once you get to 290 ish light the opportunity for engrams that boost your light level goes down.

9 RepliesMake sure that you have your best gear on when decoding the engrams, there is a new algorithm that looks at your current light level when decoding engrams. If you're wearing low level gear, you'll get lower level loot, but if you have your best gear on you have a much better chance at receiving higher level loot. Pro tip - Decode engrams one at a time so that you can equip any higher level gear and possibly raise your light level before decoding your next engram.

2 RepliesI'm not 100% sure on it but I have noticed that it depends on what activities you are doing when the engrams drop, for example when Im on patrol the engrams mostly decrypt around the 260 mark, but say for example I do the nightfall or go and use an antiquated rune in the court they decrypt up around 280-290 or slightly higher

2 RepliesOnce you get into the 290-299 range, your best hope is heroic strikes, Nightfalls and the King's Fall raid. I noticed that a level 292 who finds a raid weapon may find it at 304 attack, but a level 296 may find it at 310 attack. It's all level-dependent and the system is designed to force you to slowly increase your light so it feels like a classic leveling system again.

1 ReplyI have the same situation. I can correlate it some what with items I am retaining, even in the vault. I am keeping some new year two items I deem crucible worthy and am not infusing them as most crucible I play is level independent. I have noticed that since then the engrams I am decoding even from heroic strikes are mostly way less than what I have on. I am 291 when decoding, but since keeping low level year 2 I'm decoding 260-270, with an occasional 280-ish item. I think I will move the lower items out of the vault and to other characters to see the effect.
