Remedy for Slow Download on Xbox One/PS4
Go into network. Advanced settings. Change your DNS to manual and enter 8.8.8.8 for Primary and 8.8.4.4 for secondary. This helped my download speed significantly. If this doesn't work for you, I don't know what to say. I've had several people confirm that it has helped.
Edit: Now trending. Really hope this helps everyone. For those who are still having issues, I'll pour out some liquor for you.
Edit #2: Whoever this ISN'T working for, the solution is simple. Change your DNS settings back to Automatic and that's that. No need to come on here and complain. I'm just trying to help. Even if it only works for a few people, it was worth it.

Wow! It works instantly....and YES, you can change your DNS settings while it is downloading, without worry of interruption.....honestly it took me less than 30 seconds to change DNS settings.....took me longer to login here and comment. bah :/ Oh, i was downloading slowly at 6Mb/s for a 35GB download(Destiny 2)....now it is screaming along with increasing speed above 70Mb/s....THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!.....i might actually get to play this damn game today, rather than waiting for tomorrow, with no certainty that there is no break or interupt in the download. :/

Worked fairly well for me went from 40-50Mb/s to around 110-141Mb/s. It's Googles public DNS and it also helps to have your Xbox wired into the internet, rather than rely on a wireless connection.

I can't believe how much this helped! I've been stuck with a download speed of about 1-3Mb/s for a couple hours now. I changed the DNS I'm now getting up to 75Mb/s. Thank you!

1 ReplyEdited by dankhydrobud: 9/10/2015 1:57:15 PMgoogle dns helps, but there are other remedies 1) get a good isp with good speeds, basically not comcast, i dont have a choice have to use them 2) hardwire using ethernet, wifi is a disease 3) put your ps4 in the dmz 4) assign a static ip to ps4 5) if you have a switch between router and ps4 make sure it is gigabit 6) make sure the router to cable modem connection is cat6 ethernet cable 7) all other ethernet cables should be at least cat5 8) don't allow the ethernet cables to go longer than 25 meters between routers/switches etc... 9) never ever use the isp equipment (cable modem and router)it is outdated, makes troubleshooting a pain, and the rental fees will cost you more longterm than a hardware purchase 10) worst case ethernet wiring through walls or along walls not possible you can use ethernet through electric, around 35 bucks at best buy for kit and if your house/apartnent is relatively new it will work without problems i have comcast blast and with similar setup got 2.0 update in rest mode in approx. 15 minutes edit 1) forgot to mention change ps4 mtu from 1500 to 1473

This in fact worked for me. Switching to google DNS last night made a world of difference. I started the download at 7:30. By 10 it had only reached 46%. I put in the Google DNS, paused the download, tested service, resumed downloading, and I was playing Destiny before 11. 50%/1 hour vs. 50%/2.5 hours. So a 250% increase in downloading speed, roughly.

5 RepliesI changed my DNS settings last night and it took an hour to download. Primary settings 208.67.222.222 and Secondary settings 208.67.220.220. Worked a treat. Also try changing MTU setting to 1473 ********PS4 ONLY - SORRY******* When you have put in your settings for DNS just select back and it will still change them.
