Many of you are too young to remember classic sic-fi and don't hear what Dinklage hitched his performance to. It's very classic 2001 A Space Odyssey-ish. Tomorrow he will be replaced by Nolan North. While North is a great voice actor, his rendition already sounds hi pitched and whiny. Trust me, you'll all regret pushing the Dinklebot out the door when you have a few hundred strikes with a C3P0 squealing in your ear. The Ghost isn't human, it shouldn't sound human. It should sound like a mini-extension of an ancient and omnipotent being: the Traveler. Dinklage nailed it...period.
***To be clear this is not an anti-Bungie post. Also, this isn't worth getting pissed over. I just think it is a shame.
EDIT: For those who doubt my assertion listen to Nolan's "We've woken the Hive?" (Yes he says it as a question, FML)

I was always a fan of Dinklebot, I was sad that there wasn't more dialog for him. But this new guys voice annoys me. Take for example this woken the hive clip, Dinklebot sounds like "oh shit we woke the hive" where this guy is so meek like "we woke the hive?"

1 ReplyWhere was all this dinklage love a few months ago? Grass is always greener elsewhere I guess.
-
4 RepliesAlot of people claiming they loved the old ghost....but then before the change happened, for months and months the forum was full of complaints...dinklages voice was one of the biggest complaints when destiny first released. Even before then.
-
1 ReplyThe game has a terrible script. Hence why Nolan isn't much better
-
2 RepliesDoing the "woken the hive" line as a question makes perfect sense...it shows confusion. Dinklebots version sounds like his voice is making a fadaway shot...its awful
-
12 RepliesNolan is just reading from a script and not acting it like Dinklage did.
-
No disrespect to Nolan north but dinklebot was so much better.
-
Nolan used the voice from the bus driver on transit lol I think most of the replacements are fine but the one specifically mentioned made me cringe when I heard it..they removed something I loved it was a little jewel of a memory of constantly playing that mission for yellow hive kills/black wax and glimmer
-
5 RepliesMy thoughts exactly if Nolan North would have done a voice more similar to his Nathan Drake or Desmond Miles voice it would have been better but he sounds like C3PO's prepubescent little brother
-
1 ReplyI agree. While NoNo on his own would have been fine, Bungie added some electric effects that make NoNo sound like a 10 year old boy at a cake fest. It sounds bad...do you think you could add a volume option for the Ghost? Mine would be set at 0 with captions on while using a Dinklage voice over in my head.
-
1 ReplyI'd throw money at a joker ghost. As long as it came with a few additions. " where's my crowbar? "
-
There was something on the ps access YouTube channel about dinklage having scheduling problems and not being able to record because of it. That's why they brought in North. Again, it was on the ps access channel on YouTube. Don't know if it's true or not.

Edited by Brakfast: 9/14/2015 6:08:02 PMThey are both awful, because they got edited that way...neither voices are the orginal versions, obviously. Awful editing on both cases. Except you can still find snippets of dinklages voice much less editied on youtube...and it still sounds awful
-
I always liked pd's version. Never understood why everyone hated it so much.

Apparently a meek, high-pitched voice doesn't suit your small defenseless AI companion and people need him to have a deep, rough voice to reaffirm their masculinity.
-
4 RepliesAll you guys do is whine and complain. Holy hell man the amount of complaining this community does is more annoying than the voice. I hope they keep the Nolans voice and keep it exactly the same in ttk so it bothers the shit out of you even more. Seeing all your panties in a twist over a game characters voice is pathetic.
-
Imo neither of them did a very good job. Doesn't really matter though.

Edited by bighouse1019: 9/14/2015 4:02:41 AMWell said! Dinklage nailed it!! It's a shame, he was part of the experience for me

4 RepliesIt'll be like having a Claptrap around you everywhere

If they were truly going for a robotic, void of life, but still engaging voice. GLADoS. Nolan North can't be to blame whoever his director is should take the blunt of it. It's the directors job to instruct the voice actor on the tone, and emotion the director and the script should've told him that. I don't want to say it's Bungies fault but...

1 ReplyDINKLE: THE ARCHON PRIEST IS STILL INSIDE. (VOL.%200) DINKLE: THE ARCHON PRIEST IS STILL INSIDE. (VOL.%200) DINKLE: THE ARCHON PRIEST IS STILL INSIDE. (VOL.%200) DINKLE: THERE! A CONDUIT TO THE SPIRE, GET ME CLOSE. Glad that thing toned down and stopped yelling. And both voice actors are too obnoxious for the ghost, Siri would have sufficed better.
-
2 RepliesSorry..the only acceptable ghost voice should have been Morgan Freeman. Honorable mention to James Earl Jones.
-
What the -blam!- was that it's sounded like a question
-
Can I say Dora the explorer? It's his tone of voice he uses like "oh no we've woken the hive" lol

Edited by dzdcnfsd: 9/12/2015 5:13:43 AMClearly, the only acceptable replacement would have been Scarlett Johansson reenacting her role from "Her". I may die a lot from the distraction, but worth it.
