What's the best smartphone alternative from an Iphone?

I'm due for an upgrade from my phone service provider, AT&T, and was looking for some suggestions on what phone to get. I've never been to keen on smartphones, with my current phone being a Pantech with no wifi access, so I need some advice because I figure it is time to upgrade. I'm also not a huge fan of the Iphone from what I have used on my friend's devices, so I am looking for alternatives. Many thanks!

    • I like my Lumia 920. It's built solidly, works great, and I find it a lot more intuitive than iOS. Not to mention that it has Halo Spartan Assault for it! (either when the Verizon exclusive 30 days expires, or now if you want to trick it) If you have $300 I'd go with the Lumia 1020 for the camera if you don't have a DSLR.

Do you take a lot of pictures? If so, the reviews for the Nokia Lumia 1020 are outstanding -- as you would expect for a smartphone whose camera is 5 times sharper than any other existing smartphone. If you don't like the iPhone, and you don't want Windows Phone, you might consider the Galaxy S4. But take note -- there's a recent scandal about the S4 claiming that Samsung boosted the benchmarks to skew more positive reviews. I generally avoid HTC phones after multiple bad experiences. Their phones look great and work well, but tend to be fragile and don't last very long. Definitely not the standard 2 years. I'd recommend against them generally.

    • Nexus 4 is a pretty damn solid phone. It's pretty cheap but it's got some real nice specs, plus its running barebones stock android and its made by Google (and LG). iPhones are nice n all...... but they're kind of boring.

      • HTC One or Galaxy S4 I'd have to say, if you're looking for the latest thing.

      • I would say the HTC One, its design is really nice and I've heard good things about the phone.

      • The HTC One looks very nice. I hate the design of Samsung Phones and a friend of mine says his crashes all the time. I wouldn't recommend a Blackberry either.

          • Motorola Droid 4, or Samsung Galaxy S4. I have the Droid 4, and I've heard good things about the S4. Even the S3 would be a good. Just don't go with any of the older Droids, they were pretty bad.
