The main argument against sbmm is that every match would be a sweatfest. But guess what, that is what endgame content is. For the top 1% pvp players it might be less fun to constantly go up against players with equal skill or deal with long que times. But if that makes the game 'unplayable', maybe endgame conteng just isn't for you? Because the other 99% will enjoy sbmm much more because they will be able to get better and stand a chance. As an anecdote, for 5 matches in a row I had teams who were roughly in my skill level. The matches were relatively close and while some players were weaker, others were stronger to make up for it. Mistakes were made on both sides. It was fair and it was fun. But then, on the 6th match, I was paired with 2 who were around my skill level, and the opponents were far, far more skilled. The match was lopsided and just not fun. We didn't stand a chance. If I wasn't playing for rep, I would've just gone back to orbit. The loss was fine, as I wasn't expecting a flawless anyway. Didn't pick up a mercy card, I just went in for the double rep. But there was no way for us to learn or improve. We didn't have the chance to adapt or fight back as the skillgap was simply far too big. Those kinds of matches make Trials not fun and keeps people away from actually trying the gamemode.
