I saw many of them, and I even chuckled at a few of them.
But its really shocking (or maybe not so shocking, when I think about it) some of the vile things people have said about this tragedy. Sure, the victims were well off; but that doesn't change the fact that those peoples last moments were probably horrifying.
There were plenty of middle of the road folks who made the dive who mortgaged their homes just to get an opportunity to see the wrecked Titanic; which in the next couple years will have completely deteriorated. I'm not above laughing at a morbid meme and I'm not gonna comment on the fact that they don't send out the coast guard for every migrant vessel that sinks; But implosive decompression- horrible way to go, and to say something like "they deserved it" is, rather awful of the Twitterati and memers.
I hope beyond all hopes, that no one who is saying these things ever has to experience something like that; there are lots of awful and terrible ways to die and you don't need to pay 250,000 dollars for them to happen to you. And I reject the notion now that it's poetic, most of the Titanics passengers were in steerage and were dirt poor.

Most of the “haha rich guy dead” sentiment comes from a place of jealousness of the success of others. However, one part of the story should not be overlooked. The guy who owned the sub KNEW it was a death trap, and fired all “40 year old white guys” who told him it was a death trap. He knew better, and paid the ultimate price for his recklessness. However, making jokes about someone else dying is still a HUGE red flag.

Imagine being the 19 year old who didn’t even want to do it but agreed to going with his dad. 🤮
-
Sadly with all the lack of rules and regulations it probably won’t be the last
-
2 RepliesYeah the sub was sketch af, but contrary to what our social betters are getting their rocks off too. Life doesn’t lose value because you have money. The leninheads need to find god. There will be no coverage of this issue on the John McWaters show
-
every time i hear people that are like HEHEHEEE THOSE F***ING D**K HEADS DIED AND THEY WERE BILLIONAIRES LAWL it just gives me insecure jealous school shooter vibes

9 RepliesIt is pretty disgusting, and honestly
vile
is the perfect word for it. The eat the rich mentality is used to justify many questionable things in modern culture, but it's a clear sign of ignorant fools. Here's my rant on it:
People often fault the %1 for being on their "high horses" and being selfish with all their wealth, but these are the same people who use sewer systems, drive on public roads, and more often then not, send their kids to public school. (Public school is incredibly messed up on many levels, but free education is useful to lots of families.) The top %1 pay over %90 of the taxes in first world countries, essentially providing the public with almost all of their institutions simply because they make money. Additionally, the wealthy are incredibly valuable to society because they reinvest their capital back into the markets. The provide exclusive goods and services for reduced cost. They are also the only ones who can afford mass philanthropy. If we had no rich, say goodbye to food banks. Lastly, people bring up "monopolies oppressing the market" and things of that nature, but the only reason that happens is because of the government. Real political scientists will tell you that the only reason monopolies can exist is because the government makes it extremely difficult to run a business. Anyways, rant over.
3 RepliesI sure hope we as a people can learn from their mistake and not fire the guy in charge of safety because his report mentioned death on two separate instances, in the first paragraph.

Edited by TheArtist: 6/27/2023 11:41:47 PMActually, the end was probably so quick that they felt nothing. It was like being crushed by the full weight of the Eiffel Tower. While I’m sure you have some people who are kinda sick, I think most people are simply protesting the circumstances. This was a bit of a “Let them eat cake” moment. Across the Western world you have workers struggling more and more each day to make it economically…, …yet you have billionaires spending outrageous sums of money to live out childhood fantasies. Climbing Everest. Going into space. Diving to such depths that even the pros can’t figure out how to get down there. All while their companies claim that they can’t afford to pay people properly. I still remember the optics of Bezos playing private astronaut while Amazon was busy union busting… I don’t condone the behavior (they were still people who were crushed out of existence and whose bodies are likely to never be recovered) but I understand where it comes from. For two generations our wealthy have been atrocious citizens, as a group.

Didn’t the sub just suddenly cave in on itself, then blew up in like 30 milliseconds? That’s what I’ve heard anyways
-
Hot take, the canon event joke sucks.

9 RepliesEdited by Girraffalope: 6/22/2023 10:27:04 PMWhile it’s a horrible way to die, and I definitely pity the passengers and their families, the whole situation spelled disaster from the start. These were not victims of a national tragedy. They paid big money to board a vessel that they knew was dangerous and stupid, to view the remains of a real tragedy like they’re on a field trip. The sub practically had warning signs spelling death, but I guess seeing a mass grave was worth the risk. It has the same bad taste as influencers posing for pictures in Äuschwitz. People die in the ocean every day, but these people will or have already died paying ridiculous amounts of money for a sightseeing expedition. I wouldn’t have been sad if Jeff Bezos didn’t come back to Earth. I don’t feel remorse for the people that die climbing Everest. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. I only hope they’re not suffering.

6 RepliesHow can people sink so low? Jokes aside... It's more than a little disrespectful to treat a mass grave as a tourist attraction. These people wanted to be part of an exclusive club, and so they are. Ironically enough, it's in a way that eerily echoes the original tragedy wherein a captain ignored warnings only to take others to a watery grave with him. Hopefully, this will serve as a warning to those that would challenge Mother Nature on something akin to a dare just because they have deep pockets, to those that would skirt safety & reliability standards to save a few bucks and finally, to those that hire based in the name of demographics & diversity instead of education & experience. Having faced its prospect numerous times as an adult, I've joked about death most of my adult life and I'll continue to do so. None of us gets out of here alive and humour is one of many ways we can all relate to and, oddly enough, deal with its inevitable embrace. But this entire affair pisses me off.

Edited by Cobravert: 6/23/2023 2:55:18 PMI don't go to any sites where these would be present. It does not surprise me that they would exist. People are stupid, and some are just downright contemptable and evil. I get dark humor. But what I'm speaking of are those who post about those they don't like deserving to die.
-
Worth mentioning that at the pressure they were under, they were souped before they could blink.
-
I don’t really feel anything towards it. It’s no different than a car accident. The only reason people care more about this is because this is what was put on display for them to gawk at.
-
4 Repliessome of them deserved it. one was a convicted stalker, and another had a human trafficking allegation. there's other things I won't say bc of censorship
-
20 RepliesI wouldn’t call it a tragedy.
-
1 ReplyMaybe it’s just too soon. I, for one, will wait at least one year before sinking to those depths.
-
The kid's aunt said he was frightened to go, but went because it was father's day. Him I feel sorry for. The others not so much. Rich people often look for things on which to spend money, usually things that they can brag about. "Have you done Everest yet? I did the South Pole last year." If it ends badly it's hard to feel pitty for them. When it hurts those around them it's just sad. Interesting fact; the now widow of the CEO already had a connection to the Titanic. Her great-great grandparents died on it.

Edited by BigBossMan0527: 6/23/2023 6:38:42 PMSo how’s this? Tbh they all died nearly a week ago, the navy and the media just lied to us to distract us from American politics lol
-
I heard that the group that sent out the submarine didn’t tell coast guard that they lost communication with the sun until hours later
-
9 RepliesMuch like a good 9/11 meme, I'll still laugh at it 🤷🏾♂️
-
My biggest issue with the memes are they are a bit too soon
-
1 ReplyIf it's funny, I laugh

Damn, I have only just seen the news. I had not seen any of the memes, but I had made a few jokes with friends - as you do. There was a woman on the radio yesterday who went on one of the trips a few years ago. She had forgone having children, buying a house or a car, just to save up the money to go. It seems bizarre but those are the lengths some people will go to for the things they like.
