Steam showed 240,000 players earlier this week and this weekend not going above 160,000
That is 80,000 players less and on a weekend. That is a really big sign isn't it? People seem very negative towards this game now.
BTW, I got so many blue furina sub machines I should start a store.
And banshee rewards me with Distant Tumulus 3 times out of 5.

EDIT: Since steam is showing concurrent players I shouldn't compare a weekday to a weekend day! 😯

Hilarious as I started playing Genshin Impact (a f2p game, just like destiny now) and they gave all players a reward since they hit 10,000,000 account registrations across all platforms. The game was released less than 2 months ago. I'm not even a jrpg guy either but it's actually pretty fun and I'm having a blast so far. Bungie are such a joke at this point. I'm convinced they've given up on Destiny.

3 RepliesI think the expansion itself is one of the best expansions. But the problem people have with the game is how bungie took away lot of content... they said they will bring it back. They removed it to update it, give it a bit and there will be more content. Sunsetting is just... well its... bungie did it the wrong way...

2 RepliesI wish to provide further context to these numbers. Destiny 2 numbers according to steam peaked at 292,314 players when shadowkeep came out. A net decrease was noted until March of 2020, which peaked at 117,425. We then saw a decrease in population until June which had a peak of 213,681. In November the population is now the 241,843 which the OP pointed out. This resulted in a gain from October. Generally your going to see player numbers Increase when a new season comes out or a new expansion comes out. The average player population is a tricky one. According to the chart Season of Arrival had larger average player count beating it by 6000. October 2019 had the largest average player amount of 165,307. Unfortunately average player count may not be the most accurate statistic for overall population, maybe some people played longer then others, maybe not. You could make the argument that due to the fact the game was ANNOUNCED to be F2P that more people were attracted to it. Unfortunately sunsetting killed off that momentum with much of the free content going away. Also the 30 days hasn't passed for beyond light so it would be better to address this issue of player count come December 9th. This would have to consider what we have of Decembers numbers then.

Totally normal to see a massive surge when a brand new big thing happens like an expansion. It's annoying because everyone and their grandma needs to log in for it and then half of them are like ok I did that, now I am not going to touch the game again lol. Back to normal please! D2 pros only thank you.

My guess is the concurrent players peak was high thanks to the event, when everyone tried to be online, not some actual interest in gameplay. So, the only way is down from there

The game is so broke Bungie had to cancel trials which is the main draw for this game on weekends. If they kept trials going this weekend and next the amount of hate they would have gotten would have been 2-3 times worse. It won't matter how long they cancel it for though, when it come back online it will still be a shit show of nothing but warlocks melee freezing everyone and ice wall grenades popin off everywhere every 4 seconds.

They have had major issues with Servers booting people and various bugs that kept people out (i.e. Trials was removed, PvP is a Frozen nightmare, weapons are Frozen out, even moon Bounties were removed cause of bugs). And given the lack of content now that they did the "Vaultening" and the fact Forsaken and ShadowKeep are capped at 1060 for rewards (effectively Vaultening them too), not much reason to play until Bungle gets their act together. And to put the cherry on top, COD : Cold War drop on the 13th and my remaining Friends list is playing that - not this. Edit: there is the Destiny Steam Chart: https://steamcharts.com/app/1085660 They were at 241,000 on Tuesday and are now down to ~ 160,000 now.
