The point of gaming is to escape reality or live out fantasies not promote political ideologies. If you want to change your characters gender, cool, but know one really needs to know why besides you.

Not every gamer feel the need to escape from reality

Escaping reality doesn't have to be a negative thing like you and another commentator suggest. When you play a scifi game like destiny aren't you escaping reality? Otherwise youd be playing a simulator like sims. The main points to gaming are escape reality/live a fantasy, kill time, and experience a story. Any game you play will check one or more of those boxes, and when people start doing things like adding political ideologies and hidden real world messages in game, it pollutes the purity of the gaming community. For example, I've befriended people through online gaming that I would have never, had I met them in my daily life since we were polar opposites. I've heard a few stories of people gaining the courage to come out to their parents as being gay after living out their fantasy of being openly gay in games like dragon age and mass effect. I'm sure there are times when your playing destiny and have thought, "man it would be cool to be able to possess some of the abilities guardians do"

I didn't say escaping reality must be a negative experience but you projected your prejudices onto me. I only corrected you because you made extremely an broad and generalised claim that is not true for everyone. Reading and being able to understand what's read are essential skills in life. You should learn

Wanting people to keep their ideals to themselves isnt a prejudice it's a social politeness. There are some things that shouldn't be discussed in general public as it typically turns nasty. Also bungie can and does ban/lock threads when they start talking about these sorts of ideologies for the above mentioned reasons. As a side note, your technically being prejudice by assuming my stance on ideologies.

Most gamers play to get away from reality. Seems like you only do because you live a worthless life

A lot of people enjoy playing a character that they can relate to. If a character is completely unrelatable it can be a turn-off to playing a game. I know a lot of people that feel this way about their games, and I don't see the harm in giving the option to players

Imo, I feel like it’s the opposite? Maybe I’m wrong but I enjoy games that, in essence, are not me. I play Shadow of War because I’m a buff psycho Nazgul, or dead by daylight because I can be a nurse that blinks and kills people. Just my opinion tho, I have no doubts some people are the other way of thinking!

That makes a lot of sense too! I like roleplaying my characters in games like Skyrim or maybe sometimes even Destiny, and it's easier for me to do so when playing a male character because I'm also a guy. But yeah I totally see your point too, everyone likes playing their own way and that's one of the best thing about video games, is because you can be someone you can relate with or just whatever the hell you want! Anything that lets people play the character they want, I'm in favor of 👍
