I'll be the first to admit, i do it.
I do it because i need bounties done and im tired of racing teammates and fighting my own teammates for Ad kills for my bounties. Do i feel bad about it? yes i absolutely do but since i cant que up a strike solo like D1 this is my alternative. Why would i go through 3 strikes to finish bounties when i can finish in 1 farming lost sectors?
Like i said, im guilty, im sorry but the way the devs have made this game, it kinda forces my hand to spend an hour doing something i dont wanna do alternatively. Just like how disgusted with myself i felt about iron banner 2 weeks ago literally camping heavy ammo and not playing the objective for that stupid quest step.

I think your first problem is you are playing strikes with the intention of playing it solo. It seems it isn't just you but a majority of players. You do have access to a fire team chat, why act solo when you can speak, right? I can say another part of the problem is systemic. Maybe Bungie can try to encourage more team work with strikes rather than incentives for going on your own and quitting after you are done. That is just lame really. Also note that I am a beginner, so really your mention of raid reports shouldn't be relevant to me because I can't even do those yet. Strikes synergy should be improved regardless of how good a person is at raiding or not.

about the same level of petty as somebody worried about what teammates are doing in a strike that should be easy enough alone

This^ Plus, strikes are easy solo, doing it minus one guy should be no issue. You could also load in with a fireteam 🤷🏻♂️
