I think that optional matchmaking would make those common raid problems even greater when matching into those raids as you would probably have more people leaving than normal. A good middle ground is just to allow in game LFG posts in say a general chat or through a board at the tower, so that you can curate what people you want in your raid group as well as know that the people who join want to raid.

I don't mind optional matchmaking being added as of course it doesn't effect me, but there are just glaring issues with that system that it begs the question if Bungie should even be bothered adding it? Current raid loot is per character per week, so if a team disbanded half way through I don't think that a lot of the people that left will be bothered to start the raid from the beginning and get no loot unless they switch to another character. Now if the team didn't disband and there was a slot open what if the person who joined wanted to start from the beginning, I guess you could add filter options but the one that would be used the most is starting from the beginning leaving teams that had a player leave pretty Fing stuffed. While you would get more people into raiding which is great its the type of people that you would match with, I would hope most of the time you would get competent people who have the time to do the raid and actually understand the mechanics. But if you had people that aren't that you could have the experience of a blind raid which can be fun if the people have the time but if they don't it will end up disbanding halfway through. Am I saying that match made teams would never beat a raid? No, but the teams that don't will most likely outweigh the teams that do. Now, you can argue that its optional which is fine yet the fundamental flaws with the system would be quite hard to get past. I would guarantee that if there was optional matchmaking you would see people here complaining about the people they matched with.
