I posted this in Destiny 2 and it went as expected. I should have posted it in Lore since I'd really like to hear thoughts on it from a Lore point of view.
It took my third play through for this one to jump out, so I wonder how many other people missed it.
"The Guardian" gets their powers back after finding the Shard of the Traveller. They go back to the farm. Who's there? Shaxx, encouraging "The Guardian" and every other powerless Guardian to compete in the Crucible.
I say powerless Guardians because at that point in the story "The Guardian" is the only one who has their powers. Everyone else at the farm is a refugee or powerless Guardian.
There is no light. Ghosts can't revive them. If they die in the Crucible, they stay dead. Shaxx is sending powerless Guardians to their final death.
We all understand that Crucible had to be there so PvP players could jump in early in the game. But from a story telling standpoint, did they ever explain how that's possible?
Before anyone suggests it, if everyone went to the shard of the Traveller and regained their power, why didn't anyone tell Zavala, Ikora and Cayde so we didn't risk anyone's life in the final battle?
I'm interested in seeing what other Lore fans think about this.

2 RepliesI'm not usually a salty forum troll but I can't resist. Shaxx is confident in sending us into the crucible because the guns are so weak they can't kill a guardian anyways.
-
It just wouldn’t have worked for a player base standpoint, but yes I also noticed this.

1 ReplyEdited by HELP1NG HAND: 12/1/2017 1:28:27 AMFrom a lore standpoint it doesn't make sense. The lore and laws of the universe have been suspended in certain instances for the sake of PVP. Other examples include how being shot with Thorn doesn't actually devour the light right out of guardians in PVP, being killed by the Pocket Infinity doesn't erase and perma-death guardians (Wow, that would suck); setting them adrift in the tides of time, and Titan's armor and strength or a Hunter's dexterity, precision, and speed has next to no effect on how hard a sword swing hits, how much ammo they can carry, how fast they can move jump and climb, how much trauma they can withstand, their effectiveness in melee combat, and how accurate they are with precision firearms.

4 RepliesWhat about Mercury?? Weren't the Cabal destroying Mercury to power their Almighty weapon? And now they tell us Mercury is this giant Vex machine all along? And the Vex didn't lift a finger against the Cabal? Where's the explanation for that? Did the Vex already see the future and know what was gonna happen?? Were they like "Oh it's cool, these Guardians are gonna blow this thing up anyway before it destroys our awesome machine."?

The ideas are great, but the execution clearly leaves the viewer saying "...wait what about?" You could argue that they aren't paying attention but in all reality a well written story doesn't get that reaction. There are a few big areas that they did this with, but it all pretty well revolves around your guardian being the chosen one and not at the same time. Shame really because the story they attempted isn't a bad one either. It just had little weight behind it thanks to that and some other things.

2 RepliesI am still trying to figure out how we survived our fall from Ghaul's ship at the end of the very first level... You go with Amanda into the atmosphere, land on a ship, take out it's engines or whatever, go out on the deck and witness the capture of the Traveler, right? I mean, we are well above the planet's surface at this point. You lose your light, and are made mortal. Ghaul kicks your ghost back down to the planet, and then throws you back into the city. You are mortal at this point, with no ghost around to "heal" you. Median distance to fall resulting in death is 15 meters. Near absolute death from falling is 25+ meters (exceptions are always present). But we are on Ghaul's ship, well above the city. 25 meters is about an 8 story building, which we are well above at this point. And yet, we survive.

8 RepliesThat one chick Tyra Kharn said that she was too weak/old to make the journey to the shard. This implies that other Guardians have the option to go revitalize themselves there. Definitely something in their story telling that they've forgotten. Unfortunately, it seems they've lost whoever wrote the Halo story, so none of them are good story writers.

9 RepliesCabal don’t breathe our air but Ghaul has no problems when we fought him right?
-
This is a general plot hole in all aspects of the game. You know I'm the guardian that killed Crota, and Oryx, and Skolas. Wait you're also that guardian, no way.
-
2 RepliesOther guardians were called to the shard as well, not all actually went though. The cryptarch at the farm said she received the vision as well but chose not to follow it
-
Or the story for 2 is meant to be from the point of view of a single Guardian, you. It's called an individualized narrative, FFXIV A Realm Reborn does the same thing. You're a hero among heroes, yes, but the storyline focuses on you SPECIFICALLY.
-
What I don't understand is why all the other Guardians didn't just walk over to the shard and get their Light back too.
-
5 RepliesAccording to Byf(praise be), the crucible isn’t canon until your main campaign is complete.
-
shaxx is multi-universal and can see every "last guardian" in every timeline at once, either that or nintendo logic idk

2 RepliesMatt Damon.

1 ReplyThe crucible is a vex simulation?
-
It's not a plot hole. It's the game ignoring the story to allow multiplayer to exist without beating the story campaign. At the same time you unlock the crucible you're able to enter public spaces and do public events with other light imbued Guardians and even form a fireteam to complete the campaign. Also, prior to finishing the campaign, you're able to go through the strike playlist. One of these strikes is the Savathun Eye strike that involves Light empowered Guardians being captured and turned into pure void light. The gameplay conveniences and story of the game's world are not wholly connected to each other.

2 RepliesPaintball, they are playing Paintball

Flag football replaces supremacy Tag replaces everything else

Not a plot hole left unaddressed... this is just one of those story contrivances needed so people can do something they want in the game. All you can do is just overlook it and pretend.
-
You don't need to be a lore expert to explain this. Destiny has been full of plot holes and inconsistencies since day 1. Because......reasons. It's only the lore experts that flesh out their garbage game for them. Without people explaining Lore, and theorising, nobody would know wtf was going on. I mean they don't now, for the most part. Lore aficionado's do Bungie's job for them. Bungie's got nothing when it comes to story telling..
-
18 RepliesBungie have no idea what the darkness is hence why it's not in game. Bungie forgot the entire Rise of Iron dlc hence why Saladin is described as the last iron lord and has no idea who we are. Bungies top notch writers in a nutshell.

2 Repliesbig bad guy easyly destroys all the guardians. big bad guy gets more power from traveler. a single guardian destroys the big bad guy. what a nice plot
-
2 RepliesI think that is just a function of the "game" for the sake of the game and not the story or lore.
-
So that was the only plot hole you noticed???

1 ReplyIs it possible our ghost could revive them?
