Destiny 2 keeps freezing then crashes

I'm able to play the just fine but sometimes when I'm in the middle of doing a strike, mission, or crucible or just anything my game will just freeze with the sound still going for a few seconds then just crash. The game could crash with in five minutes of staring up or after an hour or so. My Rig Graphics Card : GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770k CPU @ 3.50GHz Ram: 32.0 GB Running Windows 10 Crash_info: stack: 00007FF776DFD28F <unknown> 00007FF776DFC5FA <unknown> 00007FF776DF82A2 <unknown> 00007FF7777E1C68 <unknown> 00007FF7777B0A1A <unknown> 00007FF7777AF138 <unknown> 00007FFFA58A8364 <unknown> 00007FFFA64C7091 <unknown> RELEASE_VHALT halt information: hitch detected: mainloop world controller state activity:in_world {{!34!}} job fiber:{{!0x00834000!}} phase:{{!-1!}} iteration:0x0 stalled fatal error detected, current status was: init: init.txt Even after all these updates im still crashing i don't know if its the same crash info. Well at least my computer tells me the game has stopped working. It seems like every update that comes out it gets worse and worse. Now if it crashes I have to open the task manager to even close it. If you need me I'll be on Warframe.

  • I was having freezing at random spots, menus, crucible, pve, "are you there?" screen. Nothing made any sense. Only game to have a problem... Finally figured it out so I thought I would mention it here in case anyone else is having a problem. BitDefender (or whatever antivirus software you're running).... Apparently its messing with the EXE or the memory the game is using while playing which breaks the game on occasion. Ever since I added the destiny folder and destiny executables to the exemption list for the Antivirus and the Advanced Threat Detection system the problem has disappeared!

    • I had the same Issue, tested RAM, tested GPU, thought that maybe thermal paste on GPU and CPU was bad, updated BIOS, Tried game repair tool on app, updated all drivers, nothing helped, and the only thing that worked for me was to remove Graphic drivers I am using Asus GTX 970 strix, I removed everything that was installed with Geforce, delete everything that has geforce name on it and let windows install drivers automaticly, after that i played Destiny 2 and other games just fine, yeasterday i played Destiny 2 for 6 hours and it worked fine.

I tried absolutely everything that I could from:- - reinstalling the game - scanning and repairing function in battlenet - updating the drivers - administrator rights changes to the exe file and battlenet launcher - updating windows - disabling antivirus and any other programs in the back ground - underclocking with MSI - disabling MSI But.... it kept crashing every hour or so. Two things I left to the very end which ended up completely fixing my issue was:- - paying for Driverbooster and not using the free version that Steam gave me. Free version didn't pick up 5 drivers that the paid version did. - updating BIOS / UEFI firmware to the most recent version (from AMI F6 to F7) Good luck all. Hope you are all able to get the issue sorted.

      • Here's the really crappy thing. I can play this at work on a 8 year old pc with win 10, 16gig ram, quad core with i gig graphics and it never crashes. Try and play at home on win10, 32 gig ram, 8 core, 4 gig graphics and oh no, I'm gonna crash at least 5 times in 3 hours. As someone has already said, it seems that all the high end machines crash more than someone on a dui.

      • This is a little late replying but I had the same issue. The game started crashing once every two weeks, then once a week, then every couple of days, then daily. It finally got to the point that I could not run the game at all. I would try to just enter the EDZ or Tower, walk two steps and then crash. I saw where Bungie suggested to turn on XMP in the bios and that led me on a long trial and error path with my computer. My crash issues are now resolved but it took some work and I will skip through all of the boring stuff. For me this worked but your mileage will vary. In your bios, turn off PCI-E (or PEG) power settings, also turn off all CPU power saving settings. Running Cinebench to test my results I doubled my OpenGL scores doing that and the next steps. Next, as Bungie suggested, while in bios, turn on XMP. This is the very tricky part. My RAM is rated at 3200 but as I found out it can't actually run at that speed and it kept locking my system up. So I would start at 2100 and work my way up while adjusting the voltage settings until I got a stable speed of 2533. The game is now rock solid and a few other issues that I have had with a couple of other games is now resolved. As a bonus I have gotten faster rendering speeds from my CPU. I hope that helps anyone else having the lock up issues. Seems that the game is very sensitive to the memory settings

        • Sorry to be a forum hog, but I found a temporary fix that worked for me, in conjunction with my last post. I have been avoiding doing strikes, because crashes were pretty much guaranteed in any strike mission, but I played, actively, for a few hours last night, doing planet adventures and whatnot, grinding really, and a few Crucible matches, with only a slight lag in the wait screen to go to the tower. In conjunction with my last post on 2/17/18, I opened the Run menu (Windows key + R), type in "MSCONFIG", hit Enter. ----IF you have any new hard ware (unoriginal to your build) and the same harddrive on your build, (i.e. did not reinstall windows after a MoBo change as I did), go to "Services", find any drivers/software for the previous MoBo/hardware. Mine was an ASUS and I now have an ASROCK, so it was pretty easy. Uncheck any OLD drivers. (ASUS is typically labeled ASUSTek Computer Inc. under the Manufacturer column, sometimes it will say "Unknown" though.) To make things easier, there is a box on the bottom left of the System Configuration window that says "Hide all Microsoft services", I suggest clicking that. If you uncheck a crucial MS service by accident, sht will hit the fan really quick. When you have reviewed the list, happy with your results, click apply. If it prompts for a restart, click wait or whatever the NO option is. Example: http://tinypic.com/r/2uhb8jq/9 Then you need to go to the landing tab, "General" on the upper left. Check "Normal Startup" if it is not already selected, then "OK". It will prompt for a restart again, go ahead with the restart. If nothing else, your computer will probably be a little happier for not loading useless bs.

So, idk what to call this, but I found a bandaid and how to avoid a crash? So, three things: one of which I think can be ruled out and I am keeping it anyway, but the other is the avoidance... I did all of these things listed, shotgun blast of troubleshooting, and got the following results, if someone wants to translate what kind of error it could be into software savvy talk, 2 cookies and double finger guns for you. 1. GPU issues... I use AMD (until my 1070 shows up next week, yesss) so if sorry if you are nVidia... Maybe its similar... -I uninstalled/reinstalled my GPU controller software and AMD Catalyst (Aorus RX 580 XTR 8gb). -In Catalyst, I did the "Desktop Color" calibration under the "Display" tab. -Put both my monitors to game "FPS2" mode (2x LG 29" 1440p) fairly certain this is just LG specific settings. Didn't have it on my ASUS. Put it in game mode, or factory reset it. -Turned on "GPU Scaling" after I finished the calibration. -In game, before any play, changed FoV to 95ish. I usually keep it at 90 so it doesn't mess with my grenade. 2. Sound issue... Every crash, just a second before, my speakers would POP, like someone busted a sub, then the music would come back, then, meltdown. -I just turned off the music. Left the effects, voices, etc, just turned off background music. Never realized how annoying it was until it was gone... 3. Strikes See the times I logged on each planet in play time after this, but the first strike I did, it didn't crash, but it was just looping in the space scene, forever flying in the wormhole. I ALT-TAB'd out, check the wifi, nothing wrong. The program was still only at 2gb of ram usage, processor and GPU were still at 37% and 51% usage, respectively. No errors. I could open inventory, but nothing showed, and it would close down right back to the hyperspace scene. The only error I had around the same time in Event Viewer was for AAM Updates Notifier, which is for Adobe CC Suite stuff: APPCRASH. Odd, and "AppHangB1" for Destiny. I am going to try use a suggestion for fixing that error with Battlefield 1 I found on the Microsoft Community forum, and will post results in a reply. Play times per planet, used an auto clicker to scope/unscope/look around quickly, to keep me logged in and add a little stress, for some of it: NOTE: I went right into playing this list in order, no events or strikes etc beforehand. Mercury: 45 minutes or so, 75-90 FPS, no lags. Shot at things from spawn for maybe 10 of those minutes. Titan: 1h:20m, 60-80 FPS, no lags. Earth: 1h:45m, 70-100 FPS, no lags. Actively played for this time, no auto clicker. Did several pub events, heavy fire fights, goofed off with a nooby, etc. Heroic Strike Mission clicked play, found team mates, hyperspace looped for about 12 minutes before I used task manager to shut it down. Went down peacefully, no error messages. Wifi was connected and working great during this time. 183-200 FPS as always. No abnormal use/temp fluctuations, according to CAM software. I think strike might be broke? Let me try this fix for the AppHangB1 business. I will let you guys know. See if anyone else can replicate my results!

        • Same issue... I have tried hundreds of solutions, no dice. Tried one guy's, to switch to the EU servers, crashed even quicker. I thought it was a sound driver causing the issue, because the sound would cut out then the crash, and event logger would have a crit error on Realtek, after game closed it would come back up and be just fine, but now with completely new MB and internals, completely different drivers, same issue. Guess it was just the other way around... Scan/Repair didn't fix it. There is enough of us with a verity of GPU's for graphics drivers and hardware to be ruled out, along with all other hardware. Mine crashes ~7-10 minutes in. I can sit in the main menu for hours, no issues, but if I go to my ship, inventory, director, or any instance, expect a crash shortly after. My CPU sits at about 40-50C in game, GPU is usually high 50's low 60's, so its not a heat issue. Also crashes on Overwatch, same deal. But, Diablo III ran for 3 hours the other day with no issue. Im gunna find the error on OW, and post to compare... • Clean computer. Windows 8.1 GTX 1070 i5 3750K 16 GB Ram No problems with any other software but frankly this week I am not able to play Destiny 2. The screen just freezes and several seconds later the game crashes to desktop. I am not able to complete any activities or earn any rewards. It happens anywhere from 1 to 30 minutes. Last week I played for extended periods of time, though one evening it did crash multiple times. What am I supposed to do? I enjoy the game but it's not playable. Isn't the company who sold it to me responsible for making sure it works?

            • This isn't funny any more. It's just -blam!-ing sad. I'm willing to enjoy Destiny 2 for what it is but that rather crucially relies on being able to actually -blam!-ing play it. Same boat as the OP and everyone else here. My crashes didn't start until after Osiris launched, or maybe I was lucky until then, and they have only become more frequent as time goes on. Please sort your shit out, Bungie. I know it's been a while since you bothered to give PCs even a sideways glance but that's no excuse.

            • I cant complete the nightfall because of this bug. If this keeps happening, i at least want the rewards and this also counts for strikes. The rewards are impossible to get for me.

I dont really know if this will work for anyone else but I was having this same issue ever since day one of the game coming out. The beta ran fine 120 fps, no lag, max settings it was blissful. But as soon as I got the actual game, freezing and crashing every 10-20 minutes. It seemed worse in certain places, like main story missions upon entering a specific area or during public events. One specific place was the corner in Trostland in EDZ where all the Cabal spawn. Anyways, after looking high and low and replacing my PSU (I thought that could be the cause since I had a few surges) someone on Reddit suggested downclocking the GPU. I decided to give it a shot and have found that if I reduce the power target to 90% and downclock both mem clock and GPU clock to -100 MHz with Precision XOC the game is stable and is not crashing whatsoever. I am sure this is not just an EVGA issue so using MSI afterburner should net the same results on other cards. Naturally, this is not a fix and at best a crappy work around but at least I am able to enjoy the game with stability and a very minor performance hit. Feel free to try it out and see if it works for you. Also, I should add I am using the second latest Nvidia driver (388.71) since it seemed to have stopped working once I updated to 390.65...

MSI GS63VR 6RF Stealth Pro 6700HQ 16gb RAM GTX 1060 (6gb) WinX 64-bit Same here. The first time it happened was like 3 weeks ago, but now I think I'm up to 5 or 6 between then and now. Only the game freezes and I have to restart, but it ruffles my feathers when I'm in the middle(or end) of, say, a nightfall or a public event grind, and the game crashes. No other game on my laptop does this, just Destiny. Runs the game just fine locked in on 61fps @ 1080p. Bungie figure it out.

I'm having the same issue. Ryzen 1500x , RX580 , 16go FuryX and in a strike, or staying idle in the farm, game crashes. Running the latest Radeon 17.12.2 suite. Everything up to date. According to AMd the RX 580 should play destiny 2 all on high so sweat at 1080p. Go figure...
