Seriously. If SBMM was really thing in this game then I wouldn't be getting match up with people who pros compared to me.
I suck ass at this game, and putting me into matches against high-skilled opponents is not going to make me get better. If anything it's going to make me even more frustrated.
Don't believe me? Look at my recent games on all my characters. Something is not right here. If SBMM exists then my account must be broken.
Don't get me wrong Bungie, I'm glad that you think my mediocre KD and Elo are enough to be paired up with professionals. I mean, the fact that you think I'm that good is flattering. But I think you may have jumped the gun on this one. It's like putting a 6 year old on an NBA team because he made a 3 pointer.
Edit:
For those you claiming that I'm lying, you're late to the party. The day I made this post I finished a clash match at 1-34. I also finished at 0-22 before that match. And before that I was stuck at like .50-.75 ratios in Iron Banner.
And to those of you claiming that the only way to get better is playing skilled opponents, it's not that simple. While it is beneficial to be challenged, gradual skill increase is key. I am not one of those players who can jump from the kiddie pool to the high dive in one day. A lot of people are like that. Like I said in my OP, it's as if Bungie saw I had one or 2 good games and thought I was the Goku of Destiny players all of the sudden.

Use it as a learning experience. Look at what those good players are doing and how they play and take it into account. Then do it yourself and watch how much better you get.

Bungie hates you guardian. #guardiandown

What I've noticed recently as my kd has climbed is seeing people lag way more or glitch around the map now. It's made for some frustrating matches for sure. Had someone accuse me of lagging as well after we won a match (got top score). Got matched up with him again and his team won, so he wasn't too mad. The third match we were on the same team and finished 1 2 on the board and had our team broken up.

5 RepliesI had a theory about SBMM while I was in the shower yesterday and it proved true so listen up... Small text wall so beware, but I do encourage you to read it. Yesterday me and a friend carried a guy with a 0.76 KD to the Lighthouse. He only got 14 kills throughout the entire run and was a largely useless teammate, nothing more than a bad meat shield. So how did we do it? Well we gave him lead, and got matched up with people who we DESTROYED. No one got above 3 wins against us, and we're 2 manning it. What was interesting was that they had maybe a 1.0 - 1.5 KD range, while me and my boy have +2.0 KD I believe there is a 0.5 difference that gets factored in when dealing with SBMM. And while these players were no problem for us, they were impossible for our 3rd party member to kill. Here's where I thought deeper and got more interested... The skill gap between a 1.3 KD player and a 2.0 is MASSIVE. Whereas the difference between a 0.8 KD and a 1.3 KD is much smaller. That being said, SBMM seems to match you with people who are statistically only slightly better than you, but while you just can't seem to hit the mark, they hit it over and over, and with ease! That's why it's so difficult for you. There's a small margin that separates the average players from the untamed savages. And SBMM doesn't recognize this margin, only the statistics connected to the players.
To all who read, thank you. Please provide me with some feedback as to whether or not you agree or see any flaws. Have a good one, and best of luck in trials.
1 ReplyYour kd is over 1.0 so enjoy your sweatfests) mine sucks so I still have fun in crucible)
-
Good question. I played 13 matches in IB in a row and my team lost 12. How does that kind of MM work? I changed MM a few times to break it up but nope still lost.
-
The game itself competes with you, win a few games and boost the w/l ratio too far past 45-50 and the game shits on you.
-
SBMM doesn't exist anymore. The reason ppl think it exists because the casual players left the game and hardcore PvP players play daily and the player base is dwindling so you get matched against anyone left. Common sense PvP hardcore play PvP exclusively especially 3v3 and rumble.

1 ReplyIf your experience from iron banner was wack, probably due to 6 man teams and u being a solo player. Im no pro, but its hard to play solo when u have a whole team coordinating against a team w no communication.
-
Yeah...don't know what is up today. I consider myself to be an average player, but this morning was matched against people who looked like they had never been in the Crucible. Wandering around, looking at the environment, playing with the barrels. I eventually quit. Shooting stationary targets that don't fight back much isn't very fun. Something isn't working quite right.

1 ReplyI'm in the same boat. Countless times I've been blocked from the light house over people carrying, and or being way above my level. 2.0 kids, 2,000 ELO kids, it's just crazy.
-
Dwindling player pool, too great of a skill gap among players, and people trying to rig the system in order to fluff k/d's. This is why I don't play pvp.
-
To understand SBMM, you must understand the K/D curve. If you were to plot every player's K/D on a graph, it would create a parabola (a bell shaped curve). This parabola peaks around a K/D of slightly below 1. As your K/D gets closer to the two extreme values (0 and Infinity [Well, not really infinity, probably closer to 1.7+]) the matchmaking has a more shallow player pool to match you with. That's why the best way to avoid SBMM is to either be in the top 1% or have a really low K/D. As you posted above, your K/D is low, so you are more likely to get matched on connection than on skill. I hope this helps your understanding of SBMM.

I've been positive for awhile now, and since then i've noticed my games getting a little quicker. I'm working harder to get wins and imo yes, i AM getting better.

5 RepliesEdited by Hiro: 7/5/2016 2:24:29 PMI went ahead and looked at the stats of all your opponents in your 0-22 game on banner fall. 5 of your opponents had worst overall stats than you and one had a slightly better k/d of 1.25. It was pretty much the same for your other games as well. You should've done the research yourself before making such a post. No fishy matchmaking and no MLG pros to blame. In the end there is no one to blame but yourself, sorry bud. Everyone has their good/bad games, however it's up to that person to take those experiences and learn from them to do better.

Get gud

1 ReplyThe system is rigged. I believe they want you to maintain a win loss ratio that is 50/50 Yesterday I kept losing matches and getting demolished by the other team. I couldn't explain why I kept getting matched up against such sweaty opponents. Today I checked the stats on each game. In most games I would have teammates with k/d around 1. My opponents on the other hand are closer to 1.5 and in some cases greater than 2. I can hold myself against these guys, but how can a player with a 1.0 kd face a guy at 2.0? This doesn't make sense.
-
People are beating the system by making the lowest rated member of the party the party leader, thus their wrecking ball of a team is SBMM based on the party leader's lower stats.
-
a big part of it is how many people are playing at the time... with destiny going through a content drought right now and what seems like more and more people getting turned away by the sweatiness of crucible its leaving less and less players to be matched up with.. and the smaller that number becomes the more concentrated that number will become with hardcore PvPers and pros leading to even sweatier and sweatier matches which will lead to more people avoiding crucible... tis a vicious cycle.
-
Maybe every one is just beter than you?
just kidding relax :)
-
....ain't it fun???
-
I was salty about it at first too but I've genuinely gotten better since then. Just give it some time. You'll see what the better players do/use and learn.
-
Playing against better players is how we all get better and learn. It's that way in all walks of life.
-
Sounds familiar!! I wonder as well what people mean by sbmm, I don't get matched with my skill level at all! But every maybe 4th game I get lucky and get matched with people even worse than me! That's when u can shine a little bit and enjoy this game....
-
1 ReplyFrustrating Situation confirmed.....However due to it costing us money we here at Bungie will ignore it. But if you need a nerf please report back.
