Everything is good, but your processor is gonna fall short here pretty soon. Id would go with a 6 core or even an 8 core.

7 Replieshow did you figure out how much wattage you should use?

Edited by SlipperehPuppeh: 2/7/2016 10:20:04 PMIf you're interested in heavy gaming/overclocking, I'd recommend always going with a k-series processor. They have a slightly faster clock speed out of the box with more options to overclock. Additionally, I'd skip the Skylake processors and get an i5-4690k or i7-4790k instead. The performance gain of Skylake from Devil's Canyon is minimal, and the Devil's Canyon k-series processors tend to be a bit cheaper. You'll need a z97 motherboard instead of a z170 board though. I'd just bite the bullet now and do 16gigs of ram so you are good for a while; but that's just me, I do lots of heavy computing in addition to gaming so I take all the RAM I can get. What is the speed of the RAM you are running? Graphics card looks good. If money were no object I'd recommend a 980 or a 980 TI, but you will more than likely be happy with a 970 for a couple years at least. What brand/model/rating is the power supply? If it were me, I'd go with a slightly larger power supply so you have more expansion options in the future. This is the one I'm using and it's great. You can also use this list to help select a power supply. My main advice? Don't cheap out on the power supply, it along with the case is the most likely part you will carry with you through several builds.

4 RepliesYou're good. You really don't need that big of a power supply though. That system will only use about 400w at full load. I would recommend getting an EVGA 650 G2 or P2 because they are solid psus which go on sale quite often, though those aren't the only options. Seasonic, Antec, and XFX also make very good units. More on why I suggest a 650w even though you would only need about 500w for that system in a moment The i5 6500 is a great CPU, especially with the BIOS updates for Z170 mobos which allow for BCLK overclocking on locked Skylake processors. So make sure you get a Z170 chipset motherboard. Now for the reason I suggest an EVGA 650 G2 or P2 even though the system will only use 400w: change the GPU from a GTX 970 to a Radeon R9 390 or 390x, both use a bit more power. As an owner of two GTX 970s I can attest to the problem with GTX 970s vram. Games are starting to use more and more and the 3.5GB available on the 970 is limiting; it creates a lot of stutter, and at the $300 price point the R9 390 is a much better value bringing a full 8GB of vram to the table. On top of this, in the all the DX12 benchmarks we have seen thus far the 390 completely destroys the 970. So the 390 is also the best option at $300 for future compatibility.

3 RepliesIm over here, reading posts like "wtf are these nerds even saying?" Meanwhile I wish I knew so much about computers.. One day, I hope to game on PC, pretty much just for mods and diversity. I feel like I need to read a "PC Gaming For Dummies" book..

1 ReplyEdited by Lordsa Jar-Jar: 2/8/2016 9:41:54 PMFor the same price you could of got an amd 390x Keep the psu in any case if you want to upgrade later, or even get a 750watt one

liquid cooling i assume? it depends on what you want to run

3 RepliesThat's a great build, don't worry about getting an i7 like some folks are saying, i5 is all you need for gaming. But I do recommend an K version of the processor. The K at the end just means the processor is unlocked and can be overclocked. The only other thing, if you are on a tight budget, you might want to hold off or get a worse video card. Nvidia will release its new line of Pascal chips in probably ~6 months and they will blow that card away. The 970 is an amazing card, but its also pretty old at this point! Don't be impatient because you want to game right now and want that max setting. Plan ahead and it will work out better in the long run. The same cost of a 970 will give you 2 or 3x performance in just a few months...

gimme ur graphics card pls

Up the RAM to 16 gigs, 8 gigs is fine for now, but for future proofing you'll need more. 970 and CPU are good for now, maybe upgrade the CPU one day. Your PSU is good, as long as it's bronze certified. Up to a 980ti one day and boom, 4k ready.

Looks good what cpu cooler are you using

Great PC!

Power supply could be lowered a bit, fine besides that

2 RepliesEdited by Psychic Donuts: 2/7/2016 11:08:23 PMVery good build. How much was it? The only thing I would change is your power supply, it doesn't need to he that big. I would go with a 500w at most and I think you'll be fine.

4 RepliesGood. Got a better GFX than I do, but not processor

Good solid build. Very nice

i5-4690k with a z97 Motherboard so that you can overclock in the future. You might as well get Water Cooling.
