King's Fall has too many mechanics; it ruined the raid experience

One of the reasons I stopped playing religiously (hardly play at all anymore) is because I'm a mostly PVE player in Destiny and the raid just went sour with me. I got tired of having to switch between multiple groups to finish Oryx because people kept dying or couldn't handle the mechanics. I feel like Bungie went a little overboard from having a mechanic that really just involved one person to forcing everyone to be a part of the mechanics. I miss the days where you could just go into Vault of Glass, have a few people who knew how to use a relic and the rest could shoot stuff. It was simple, and fun. I honestly think the community can only handle what we were given in terms of the mechanics in year one. With King's Fall, it became a chore to put a group together who was competent enough to do it all. I don't want to know how many hours are collectively wasted from finding a good solid group. Used to have a good group of friends to run raids with too but they all quit before hard mode even came out. Frankly, the terrible RNG didn't help either. The entire raid just is way too tedious to be fun compared to Vault of Glass. EDIT: Love all the comments insulting me. Some great counter-points there. If you had actually read what I'm saying I'm not someone who begs to be carried and I'm a good player. The majority of the community cannot handle the mechanics so I'm really complaining about them. EDIT 2: I did not say that King's Fall is difficult. I am saying to me it is now more of a chore when you add up all the things involved. Getting a good group, triple RNG loot, pointless jumping puzzles that just waste time...

  • I like how it requires a team effort. Maybe folks should learn how to participate instead of being carried.

  • That's exactly why I'm taking a break. I'm waiting to see if they put out any more major dlc.

  • How easy do you need it to be? Bungie already hand out high light gear to you as it is. It's babies like you that have destroyed the game with your whining. Just look at everybody's characters.. We all look the exact same due to bungie handing everything out so easily.

  • If the gear didn't come as a higher light level it wouldn't even be worth playing.

  • Agreed. A raid shouldn't have it where if one person dies then it's all over.

    • They fixed the issue everyone had with Crota where one or two people could carry a entire fireteam through the raid with ease. Kings fall makes everyone do their part but there is room for error just not much. In hard mode you can finish every encounter with less than a full fireteam. The problem is lfg fireteams have very little room to adapt which is why every minor little thing results in a wipe. Though from my experience so far with lfg fireteams is a less than 20% success rate of killing Oryx I don't think that is an issue. Raiding isn't ment to be for everyone and I hope it stays that way. No because I'm an elitist by any means but because its supposed to be the hardest challenge in the game that takes planning and dedication which is why its so rewarding the first time you complete one. Even if your loot is disappointing.

      • I actually like that it takes more effort to carry people through the raid now. Some people in VoG and CE didn't even realize they were being carried. House of wolves did at least one thing right for end game activities. That last round vs skolas was a fight most average players had to really work for. Teamwork started to be relevant. With KF, I like that they continue to split you up into smaller groups for some fights and most regular strategies require that people actually do something and hold their own. Now, when a portion of a raid falls apart it is easier to identify where the problem is and who may not be doing their best. Sure, it's always cool to be that guy who knows how to run relics and platform like the best, but now the focus is more team oriented than before.

      • Kings Fall exposes players that were generally carried in Crota and VOG. It takes time to mesh a good team. Pay attention when someone dies over and over, make adjustments... Just be patient, the raid will be routine like the past raids eventually.

        • I disagree. There's plenty of "not challenging" content in the game. So you want to take out the only challenge next to PVP? Can't agree with you. I loved the challenge of the new raid.

        • Having people hop on a plate in a correct order and having a person jump to grab a relic for a immunity bubble is as hard as killing the sword bearer, taking the sword, and telling people to shoot crota. People are just bad in general and suck at communicating whenever you do raids and you find a person or 2 who are good friend them next time you wanna do the raid invite them. I used to have a solid group too some shit went down i'm in the same boat as you but thats how i got my first group started and it lasted up until HM King's Fall would have gone on for much longer if we didn't have a smart mouth and 4 people who randomly decided to never get on in time the day of hardmode and after.

        • I see it as this is a type of raid where unfortunately it can get turned to shit real quick with the simplest of mistakes or occasional game glitches. 1 person could in fact ruin an entire clean run so I agree it can be quite irritating but of course that's why it's always suggested to play with players you know with their type of play style and game commitment/effort. The Vault was like 50/50 shooting shit and mechanics. Crota's End was 90/10%. More shooting shit... Kings fall 10/90 %...more mechanics...

        • After reading through more of the thread, a couple things i noticed: - People want raid rewards for strikes. That defeats the purpose of completing the raid. - It seems people are only concerned with being 320. That strive to be 320 is taking the fun out if for yall. This isnt the 'forever 29' days, when 1 level meant a world of difference. Because of how bungie has changed the power scale to be more like a curve instead of a step, you'll barely notice the difference pve wise between 311-320. In fact, if you're 311, doing the hard raid will feel like the normal raid (except no revives), the whole way through. Also, for those concerned about pvp, you'll barely notice the difference too. The only time you're really notice a power difference is if you're playing ToO or banner, and there is a 5-10 level difference between you and someone. And even then, the most important thing is still how well you can play the game, and not your level. I say that to say: the time to get concerned about being 320 is when the level cap increases. Till then, just play for fun, and you'll probably enjoy yourself more. Besides, the way the raid gives out gear, you'll probably get to 320 before that cap increases.

          • Id much rather have a bunch of raid mechanics than a bullet sponge of a boss that takes 40+ minutes to kill with constant dps.

            • I'm going to have to disagree. Most of the mechanics can be done by one person knowing it. Warpriest- one person can rotate plates for the aura. Golgoroth - one person can take gaze. I like the sisters fight because it randomly picks who the runner is. Sure you can rig it on the first run but the following ones are random and I love it. It makes everyone potentially learn what to do. For the Oryx fight, if you have been runner on sisters you can do it on Oryx with no issues. I prefer the needing of a team and everyone to do their part through the entire raid.

              • I disagree. This raid mechanics wise is amazing. It topped VoG which i thought would be hard to do. You have to work together as a team, which is the whole point of a raid. Everyone should be able to carry his/her own weight, and help get the job done. And if someone needs help on something here or there, the rest of the team should be there to help that person. Which can be seen if someone dies, because despite what you/others claim, you dont have to wipe if someone dies. You can keep going to finish the objective. What you're asking for shows 2 things to me: 1) People just dont wanna be satisfied, and complain just to complain. I say that because this is a repeat of the people complaining about the mechanics in VOG. They complained about the same shit you complaining about now (hard finding a group, needing others to complete, it taking long, rng not worth the time, etc.), so bungie addressed it with CE. They made a raid that was less about teamwork, shorter, and relatively easy to get through. Were people satisfied? Nope, those same people then complained about the very shit they asked for. The main one being 'the raid felt too much like a long strike instead of a raid cause you can do most of it alone, and didnt feel the teamwork aspects of it', smh. 2) People wanna lone wolf everything in this game, which isnt the point of the game. While you can do the majority of things in this game alone, the point is to do things with others as a team. But people dont want to work together as teams. You see it in all aspects of the game, from raids & strikes, to the crucible. Instead of working together as a team, people tend to go off and do their own thing, no matter what the objective. Then those people will complain about their teammates, the game, etc. cause they didnt solo whatever and get it done.

I prefer it. It means everyone had to know how to and be able to everything. It means the weak groups won't finish, and the strong groups will
