One of the reasons I stopped playing religiously (hardly play at all anymore) is because I'm a mostly PVE player in Destiny and the raid just went sour with me. I got tired of having to switch between multiple groups to finish Oryx because people kept dying or couldn't handle the mechanics. I feel like Bungie went a little overboard from having a mechanic that really just involved one person to forcing everyone to be a part of the mechanics.
I miss the days where you could just go into Vault of Glass, have a few people who knew how to use a relic and the rest could shoot stuff. It was simple, and fun. I honestly think the community can only handle what we were given in terms of the mechanics in year one.
With King's Fall, it became a chore to put a group together who was competent enough to do it all. I don't want to know how many hours are collectively wasted from finding a good solid group.
Used to have a good group of friends to run raids with too but they all quit before hard mode even came out. Frankly, the terrible RNG didn't help either. The entire raid just is way too tedious to be fun compared to Vault of Glass.
EDIT: Love all the comments insulting me. Some great counter-points there. If you had actually read what I'm saying I'm not someone who begs to be carried and I'm a good player. The majority of the community cannot handle the mechanics so I'm really complaining about them.
EDIT 2: I did not say that King's Fall is difficult. I am saying to me it is now more of a chore when you add up all the things involved. Getting a good group, triple RNG loot, pointless jumping puzzles that just waste time...

14 RepliesEdited by Unicronic: 1/15/2016 12:50:57 AMThe problem with King's Fall is not the mechanics (sort of) In Vault of Glass and Crota's End, 1 or 2 great players could drag a whole team through without much of a problem. Key responsibilities were limited to one of two players only. In King's Fall the mechanics dictate that most players have an essential part to play in the raid. What this has done is expose players who aren't up to the task. Bad players were around in year 1 but there was no spotlight on them due to the good players getting the job done. In year 2's first raid we have seen players who are guilty of the following: - not being able to jump correctly - not understanding basic class perks and what they do - not understanding basic real world concepts like counter-clockwise - not being able to play in a team especially during the totems The mechanics are not the problem, the problem is players who aren't good enough and/or don't put the time in needed to get better. Whilst Destiny is more friendly to the average gamer that some games there is an end-game for a reason. Raids in Destiny are the highest tier of PVE challenge and therefore need everyone to be on point. The biggest problem in King's Fall in general though is truly awful loot and gear that isn't worth the grind.

3 RepliesView from a casual gamer..... got into a bit of a rant, TL:DR at bottom As said, I would class myself as a casual gamer these days, mainly due to work, children, wife etc but still try to get on when I can, I am by no means a hardcore raider but to be fair, mechanics in this game are not hard to understand or get used to after a couple of attempts. The reason I feel that there are definite mixed feelings about KF compaired to VOG or CE are mechanics related, but not because they are particularly difficult to understand (for most people!) but more that the mechanics themselves are VERY unforgiving. During VOG or CE a new/inexperienced/downright awful team member making a simple mistake (or even an experienced one - we all make mistakes!) was not an automatic wipe for the most part, sure in some sections made it more difficult but as a team you could work to recover from it. The abyss for example, how many hunters ended up soloing that for the team when they couldn't all make it through. KF however, very harsh and unforgiving for even the slightest mistake, timing error, death etc... in my experience (which, to be fair is limited to raiding groups from LFG - which is fine, sure there's the odd group you slowly back away from, but the most part been in some great fireteams - this may be different with a constant group with tight communication) for the most part it is VERY difficult to recover from, leading to just wiping. My personal view is this has lead to two things: elitism - high level requirements (which to be fair - their group, their rules) as people want an experience guarantee and not to waste their time; Fear - newer players having bad experiences in LFG, either never finding a group due to lower light, or when they do, cocking up as they don't really know what their doing, to scared to say so and even if they do, not having it explained to them properly and eventually the team disbands out of frustration or they get kicked. They never get out of this cycle. This - combined with frustrating loot drops - today received a harrowed chestpiece at 310 on my warlock.....cheers! - I feel have lead to people not experiencing the same joy and sense of accomplishment as they did in VOG or CE, when Oryx floats of into space, you just feel relief that the job is done - that is if they ever get there in the first place! TL:DR - Mechanics not difficult, just unforgiving causing a bigger split in the raid player base and to top it of, shitty loot

The raid mechanics are fine it's the glitches that are the real issue.
-
So bungie makes a raid that actually requires every person to work at beating the raid. The other raids got boring or tedious because one/two people would do everything. Now that they make a raid that involves the whole team, it's Bungie's fault you can't figure out how to cooperate with 5 people? It's not Bungie's fault it's these spoiled kids playing video games nowadays that want all the prizes for putting in no effort. And just be user you spent "hours" on something doesn't mean you put in effort. Don't blame bungie for something that is one hundred percent the communities problem.

this thread smells of SCRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOBS

I love the King's Fall raid. And I really enjoy that everyone has a job to do in the raid. I think the mechanics are spot on. I do still believe that VoG was the best raid to date. But VoG and CE didn't always engage the entire team to do more than just stand still and shoot things to complete a task. And those were the times when those older raids got just a little boring.
-
This raid asks too much of guardians the jumping puzzles are ok but almost every part of the raid you have to do with 6 people and you can never die if 2 people die it's a wipe 90% of the time but I still do it every week
-
I agree. Barely do the raid.
-
I personally hate the raid but do it just get what I need and never touch it again once I have what I want!
-
1 ReplyIt's no fun to do, and it's no fun to loot. Double RNG killed it. RNG for what you get, then RNG for the level you get it at. It sucks. I haven't missed a week of hard mode with my 3 characters. I still don't have a 320. Only one 320 ghost. Only one 320 helmet.
-
7 Replies1000% agree , I have not even attempted the raid simply bcus it doesn't look fun. I too miss run&gun Crota and even vault of glass. VOG was refreshing to play again to get the NTTE. See my thing is I HATE jumping on crap from pit fall to Mario then you add in the other mechanics of the raid and it just doesn't look fun... just like skolas. I never got my year one emblem bcus skolas took forever with the wrong team so I just stopped doing it. there will probably be another emblem or year 2 thing and I won't get it unless new guys are running the raid last minute to get the emblem just to be in the year 2 club.Bungie really missed the fun mark on this one
-
Just the loot for me. Double RNG and some items more sparse than others. I get 320 hvy all the time, but have yet to see anything above 316 secondary...and the ghost, nothing over 315. I got 319 from IB instead or I would be in much worse shape. Mechanics are overcome with exp and patience. I think I spent 5 hrs on just Oryx one Saturday a week or so after when the raid first came out...8 hours total in that raid. None of us were a clan or consistent friends...more friends of friends. None of us gave up and it was good to finish it.
-
BS. King's Fall is a joke
-
The raid is pretty okay imo, it's the rewards that are just disappointing, or maybe I am just unlucky. Last time I got 2 moldering shards from killing Oryx, while I had turned in 20 moldering shards for extra rewards. After that I said NEVER AGAIN.
-
Kings fall does what none of the other raids have. That being share my the responsibility amongst more of the players in the fire team and not just having that one guy run around doing all the work with the relic. VOG Templar fight - one guy kills everything, takes out an oracle here and here AND has to bring down shield Everyone else just standstill and snipe. CE Sword bearer was the most important role hands down All anyone else had to do was shoot a rocket when told. KF everyone has a role to play. The ones who can't perform, won't be able to complete this End game activity. This is the way it should be.
-
1 ReplyThe problem all of you got is that you play with new people every time. Get a 6-10 man group, then you will learn to succeed together everytime. Sure you can take in a random or two once in a while, but if you want to get through quick, stick with the same group.
-
2 RepliesI actually enjoyed most of the raid
-
I wish we actually had a choice of all three raids. VoG and Crota's End should have a light level 280 and 310 option for year 2 to add to the mix. I only have a window of 2.5 hours in the evening after work before I have to go to sleep. My only gripe is the Kings Fall raid is unforgiving for those who have been up (for professional obligations) for nearly 12 hours. I mainly run KF on Saturdays because of this.
-
Don't ever play a real raid then lmao
-
The mechanics aren't a problem, it's bad groups, and glitches.
-
I'm fine with the mechanics, but its the Lag associated with the plates in the raid that I have a problem with. At the start of the raid, relics, totems, there is no lag. Warpriest can be fine, but one player with a bad connection can cause all kinds of issues with the plate activating. Golgorath has no plates, and thus, has little or no lag. Sisters and Oryx, though, all it takes is for 1 person with a bad connection to cause a quick raid to turn in to hours of aggravation.
-
1 ReplyDon't bitch now, because when bungie releases a new raid with fewer mechanics, you will be pissed
-
I agree, it takes way too much time and people get short with each other because of the time synch. Guys are less willing to try over when it's already taking too long.
-
Hard mechanics in destiny? Lol. Try wow tuen we will talk
-
I like how it requires a team effort. Maybe folks should learn how to participate instead of being carried.
