Why do you shoot at oryx?

Id like to know who started the rumour that shooting at oryx while staggered actually damages him. That time putting ammo into him would probably be better spent helping bomb detonators not die from enemys. I would like to run it doing this just to prove my point. Some of you say if you dont shoot him the bombs wont do damage because he isnt being staggered. if thats the case why not wait till your teamates come back? Live team better then a dead one. Wow so many replies

  • Guns do damage to him. Each rotation is 25% if you get all 4 bombs, You know how after the second rotation if you detonated all 8 bombs you will get teleported. That's actually 60% of his health that is gone and we did that 10% more to get to less than half. The 10% is the shooting. One time we detonated no bombs and we did 10% damage when oryx was exactly half health then got put through to teleport.

    • He reclaims the darkness if you do not keep shooting him. Reclaiming the darkness negates bombs if they are not all set off at the exact same time.

    • We tried not shooting him at all and it turned out that it really does make the bombs not do damage. Shooting him doesn't hurt him all - it makes absolutely no difference in how many bombs have to be detonated to kill him, other than that someone has to shoot him to enable the bombs to do damage. As relic runner, I usually do a quick look for adds that can shoot, then focus back on Oryx. Usually the adds with guns are all dead though because the other guys kill them while Oryx is slamming his fist. Can you survive without killing the adds? Sure you can! But if you have the ability to kill them and eliminate the random chance of someone dying from them - take it.

    • actually your rounds are doing damage, just not very much and if you don't have CONSTANT dps on oryx after he staggers the bombs won't do shit

      • How are you dying from enemies... seems like you're the one doing it wrong... On normal you can kill oyrx in 3 rotations if you shoot him with ToM enough.

            • You won't make a dent on his health bar, so dps is irrelevant, but if you stop damaging him he'll become immune to the bombs. Kind of like Crota's shield, an auto rifle would take ages to take it down, but stopped it from regenerating. So you just need some sustained fire on him while staggered. That's part of what makes TOM so good. Normally have relic runner shooting oryx and floater clearing adds from inside the aura

            • Or here's an idea if you keep dying to Ads, stagger Oryx, clear out front and back THEN run out to your bombs after a count down. Someone still has to shoot him though.....

            • It does do damage. True, most of the damage comes from bombs, though, so it's always good to have at least one or two people clearing adds while the other chip away at him.

            • He does actually have a good point. I would definitely prefer shooting adds and potentially save a life than shooting his chest.

            • Well someone needs to shoot him to prevent him from putting up a shield around his chest, or the orbs do 0 damage.

            • I am pretty sure that shooting him does do damage, it just doesn't do much compared to the bombs. Shoot him while staggered and damage numbers pop out.

            • Shooting oryx doesn't damage him, but it does keep his chest open. If his chest isn't open when the bombs go off the bombs won't do any damage. You should be clearing out all adds before you run to the bombs, you have plenty of time. The two people left over not running to the bombs then need to dump some primary ammo (Not a problem if using ToM) to keep the chest open.

              • On hard mode after he is stunned you have time to kill all adds and then go to your respective bomb. Most people run to the bombs as soon as he is stunned not the optimal way of doing things on hard mode.

                  • When I play with my raid team we get to the shade after two sets of bombs and only have to run around once. When I play with randos we almost never get to the shade after two so my raid team must be putting out more damage to Oryx logically unless someone has a "bombs do more damage to oryx" perk that I don't know about.

                    • It is true. If you don't any damage at all after oryx stagger, with 4 bombs, oryx will take no damage. You absolutely must shoot him after the stagger. On normal, the ogres should be dead in the corner, plenty of cover. On hard, the ogres should be dead in the same corners. Git gud scrubs. Plenty of cover. The up top strategy is for people not high enough light,311, to have all the enemies not be red numbers.

                    • I've been told you need to shoot him to ensure the black orb in his belly stays open. This is what is supposed to allow him to be damaged by the Bombs.
