So like, I'm just being a titan. Just strolling along my merry way in some crucible. And I come across a Warlock in the wild. Well, I don't wanna die so I jump over him because I see his shotty.
And then it happened...
He bunny hopped into his super to try and Landfall me due to his shiny new exotic gloves. And you know what? It killed me despite me being sky high above him.
So, mind explaining this to me? How is it that Landfall kills people above the Warlock? I'm a bit confused as to how this works since it's name and description offer zero indication that it should affect anyone above the Warlock.
Edit: Omg I didn't think I'd have to spell it out for you guys but I suppose I should have seen this coming. You all (or at least a vast majority of you all) have missed the entire point of this post. I am NOT upset about dying to Landfall. I am NOT upset about Warlocks or Stormtrance or anything of the sort. I am simply confused as to why a perk titled "Landfall" that is described as "On casting Stormtrance, fire a bolt of lightning into the ground, creating a devastating shockwave under you" is able to kill things above as well. It's even in the name, Landfall. It's not like the perk was titled something to give any sort of hint of affecting the area above you such as "Skyrise" (crappy name I know, deal with it).
Edit 2: To those trying to argue with the shallow response of "Tell me why FoH kills me when I'm 30 meters above it then" the answer is in its description. "Smash the ground and dissolve nearby enemies in a maelstrom of Arc Light". For those who don't know what a maelstrom is it is a powerful whirlpool with a strong downdraft that pulls nearby things into it. Going off of that it's not that you are dying to its aoe or even a shockwave above, it's that FoH is literally sucking you into its center and killing you that way. Of course, that would probably be a bitch for them to have added in the needed effects for that so they just shorthanded it and opted for killing anything in range immediately.
Edit 2a: Not to mention, if you could survive FoH by jumping it would only be further solidified as the worst super in the game. And it already is so let's not try to make it any worse.
Edit 3: In case you somehow missed the point of this post (despite Edit 1) I'm going to reiterate. I am not upset about the Warlock, nor Stormtrance, nor Landfall. I have only died that one time to Landfall and 1 whole death is not going to warrant a complaint post. This is a simple question that requires a simple answer. One that I have found now thanks to users shobr0 and one other unnamed person (sorry, your post seems to have drowned in the sea of trolls) who have explained that in the lore it states that Warlocks are unable to channel the lightning themselves but rather, that they can call upon it at anytime and get charged by mother nature to then use as needed. So, that explains it, my question is answered and this post can go ahead and die now. Still, kinda dumb that something that should (probably) be for cool points actually kills but whatever, that's Bungie for you. Always out to show how much more loved Warlocks are than the other classes.

Coming from a titan

Just another way Striker is outclassed in Crucible and PvE.
-
4 RepliesIt's called Landfall because it's a lightening bolt coming down from the sky to the ground, or FALLing to the LAND.

1 ReplyEdited by st33l3r f4n1991: 10/2/2015 6:50:09 PMFor those who are confused about how lightning works. It doesn't always come from the sky and it doesn't always come from the ground. It travels from negative charge to positive charge always. Most of the time you get cloud to ground lightning, which occurs when the base of a cloud builds up a negative charge and induces a positive charge on the ground. The opposite can happen as well; but usually, when lighting strikes upward it is from an object not the actual ground. I think where most people get confused and think lighting normally "strikes upward" comes from the fact that the bright light we see does propagate upward. Don't get this confused with the actual direction of charge flow though, which would be downward. The light travels upward because the initial point of high current occurs near the ground when the step leader ( negative charges from the cloud) reaches a positive streamer (positive charge present above the ground) and then the point of high current propagates upward. Think of it this way. You have a bunch of marbles in a tube and they only light up when they move. The end of the tube is blocked so the marbles are stationary. When you remove the block, the marbles flow downward, but the light would seem to move upward as each marble begins to move and lights up.

Lighting comes from above. Just saying.

1 ReplyIt's kinda like when a titan uses fist of havoc and your in the sky above them it still kills you

When a warlock goes into stormtrance he/she call fourth a lighting strike which strike the user as it strike he channels the lighting bolt in a landfall and activates stormtrance at the same time
-
How does lightning form?
from the ground up
So a gigantic lightning bolt would hit you mid air if you were above him.
-
A lightning bolt comes down and strikes under the Stormcaller. You were killed by the lightning bolt.
-
Way too long for me to even consider explaining anything.
-
Now you know how we feel about FoH
-
Where do you suppose that lighting bolt comes from? The Sky perhaps? Its an AOE

Edited by TheJewhammed: 10/2/2015 9:04:52 PMIt's because if you watch it the lightning bolt comes from above him and into the ground, not out his asshole. It struck you
