How rare will etheric light be?
Since this new material will be the most powerful sought after upgrade mat of all. How much do you think we'll be able to earn per week? Will it be random, or will there be a specific goal to achieve?
Personally I think it will be goal-based and we'll be capped at 1 per character, per week. Since it appears we'll need 3 etherics to hit L34 this could mean that we'll see our first 34's in the first week. Discuss...

Hopefully a nice surprise. but i think if these are semi easy to get as some suggest (nightfall and other PVE content) they will have another limit in place. I haven't read up so i might be wrong, but lets say you need one of these to max out or upgrade a piece of gear, maybe the vendor who does the upgrade requires rep, at level 2 you can up grade feet and hands armor, level 3 you can upgrade secondary/heavy weapons, level 4 you can upgrade head and chest, level 5 you can upgrade primary weapons. Or alternatively you have two factions working in a similar way one for armor one for weapons. Then you can have as much etheric light as you like and upgrade as much of the gear as you like but will still have to grind the content to reach the level. The main thing I'm looking forward to is finally people can pick and chose their style, and not be bound to wear the same items to be max level. I think it will be nice. Edit: I think if you are keen to level up, jump in an play endlessly at the beginning. if they have set the rate of leveling too high they will drop it and if people are leveling too quick they will raise it, but at the beginning is when you can get the most out of any loop holes, like queens bounty gear giving ascendant materials back when that stuff was rare.

1 ReplyYou could.... Actually look into it.... Before posting? DeeJ said you get it from the highest end game activities (IB, ToO, NF, PoE) and that if you run all of those, "you could potentially hit the mother load".

I know they said we can get it from PoE, ToO nightfalls and IB So on IB weeks it's possible to get it 4 times per character per week

It would be great if you had a 1 in 10 chance of getting it from dismantling an exotic. So many poor decisions would be made day 1 in an attempt to hit level 34.... So many great sob stories...

2 RepliesI imagine they will be rare but not crazy rare. A lot of people are assuming that Etheric Light will be able to instantly upgrade any piece of armor or weapon, but i'm pretty sure that if you want to "Ascend" something then that gear/weapon will have to be already fully maxed out first. So you will need to spend the time and materials first upgrading the gear/weapon then use the Etheric Light to Ascend that gear/weapon.

5 RepliesI think they will be hard to get, maybe four or five a week if you have multiple characters and play all the end game content. I also think they will only drop one at a time. Maybe two, at the absolute most. They won't be on the same level as ascendant shards for sure as far as getting between 9-12 from a Nightfall or something. Consider this: The most ascendant energy you can get from one Nightfall is 12. This is enough for only two of the three final attack upgrade nodes on a current legendary. In other words you can't get enough ascendant energy to fully level a weapon from one nightfall, or enough shards to fully upgrade armor from one Nightfall. Etheric light is a one time use, instant boost to max attack/defense. There's no way these will be handed out like candy in Nightfalls or any other activity. I really do think that whenever they do drop it will be a single Etheric Light, because one of these is basically worth about 18 of an ascendant material in a "how many it takes to fully upgrade something" sense. I've seen some people say they'll be easy to get because they drop in Nightfalls or whatever, because they are assuming they will drop in batches like the ascendant stuff does. Fat chance.

Like any currency, they'll go from sell-a-kidney-to-get-one rare to wouldn't-cross-the-street-for-one common. It's a game mechanic. How fast it happens depends on how much you play.

3 RepliesThere will need to be a balance. Too rare and it will demoralize folks (I know I'll be done) but too plentiful and folks will chew through the content (not like there's a ton to begin with) too quickly. Imho this is a very important point. I plan on upgrading every -blam!-ing thing I own for ocd and fun. Stopping at 4 pieces? No. And if it's going to take me weeks to get light... Im out.

Probably super rare for Nightfalls, but really common for Prison of Elders and other DLC-only things. (to try to get people to buy the Expansion)
