• As a former Destiny streamer used to say: “Leveling isn’t bad. Destiny just had bad leveling.” IOW, Destiny’s progression system is badly broken…on purpose. A holdover from year 1 when D2 launched with a broken loot system. So Bungie introduced the Milestone and then the Pinbacle systems. Their RNG-based progression combined with limited drop opportunities with a weekly lockout, served to BREAK the relationship between player time investment and progression rate. IOw, you don’t invest your time, you GAMBLE with it. Feeding the progression slot machine with tokens (your time and effort) and then you hope it spits out something that progresses your character. If not, the game has effectively stolen your time. Bungie knows this. Which is why they tried slapping various band-aids on this metastatic cancer: Prime engrams, Seasonal Artifact, etc… to try to soften the razor -sharp edges of this system. But they still resist doing what needs to be done: Getting Rid Of It.

  • Power levels are fine, the problem is the power cap in activities (how a 1650 can't melt bosses in >1600 activities) Seasons>Content droughts

    • The pinnacle grind should be eliminated, that's the main source of everyone's frustrations. If not, then reprogram awards to go where we need for pinnacles. That would be a good start for next season.

      • I just stopped caring. Slow play the pinnacles and just do what's fun to you. But I'm done buying seasons that's for sure. They're just work.

      • Yep, it’s one of the main contributors to the burnout. There has to be another way to keep players engaged. An event every week maybe? Srl one week, iron banner another, faction warz, destiny original Daybreak mod week where all abilities recharge faster across ALL of pve. That on top of the seasonal content could make the game a bit more interesting.

I did not enjoy the seasons of 2022 so far. Leveling the passes had it's perks but I only did what's necessary to finish the storyline. I also did not enjoy to raise my light level. This time or season, I just let it run, without playing the specific activities which supply "pinnacles" on a regular basis. I also needed six weeks (plus) for the pass, which I finished before in under three. There are things I'm still interested ingame but leveling and seasons are not one of those.

          • Not really... Power level is easy to increase most of the time - just play and it'll go up by artifact or armour

          • This game is built around grind - loot, power, etc. it has always been about grind. What would you suggest as an alternative if they were to stop building level grind into the model? Does your disapproval extend to the other grindy aspects of the game as well? Weapon and armor grind, crafting, rare drops, so forth? I think if you got what you asked for you would quit out of boredom in a couple weeks. The grind is what you play this game for.

            • Having to lv up seasonal lv just to play end game is such bs, max artifact lv+ lv 150 seasonal rank=still not 1600 to do master and grandmaster lv activities....and people wonder why players end up burnt out.

Yeah well if they remove power level they are just going to triple the grind so if you think its bad now you have no idea what youre asking for. Seasonal content is much better than the full dlc we would get with 6+ months of it going dry with nothing to do. Seasonal content gives us a ton of stuff to do if we choose to engage with it. They should just open up the gmnf immediately & just keep the power difference as we continue to level. I think it's like a 35 or 45 difference between player power level & the nightfall level. This way players who can't play as much have a chance at getting into some endgame pve activities. Some people can't play as much so an idea like this would be benefit everyone especially those players.

              • The whole pinnacle/power system is stupid, especially as there's plenty of easy pinnacles now. But if you reach max in a season you essentially make most of the 'milestone rewards' useless. There was no pinnacle reward at all for the seasonal events so why would anyone bother running enough expeditions for 125 treasures etc.

              • Done buying seasons and stopped caring about pinnacle grind... just slow play it and do the activities you find fun. I like GMs but I find it much more relaxing to go do some easy bounties than most of the pinnacle activities

              •
They make the game feel like a chore to me,is the same happening to any of you?
One step forward, one step backwards. The Bungle way, these days On a side note, this is one of the main reasons why I haven’t bothered doing a single GM in like 2 years. After I got my conqueror title, (this was when gms were still relatively new to the game) I stopped giving a crap about getting to max light cause what’s the point? You take a step forward each season, only to be reset a step backwards at the start of the next one, but the reality is, you’re getting absolutely nowhere. It’s just one big waste of time, which is why I decided to quit worrying about light level as a whole, as well as really, this game as a whole. Been playing other better games, and having a blast.

              • Seasons are better than nothing. I will take content over no new content for a whole damn year. We don't need to go back to that. Power level needs to be reworked desperately. I think the conecpt and manner of execution for obtaining pinnacles is actually about right but just the actual pinncale reward needs to be changed. What if instead of pinnacle power level gear it drops a pinnacle upgrade point that you can use to do an actual tangebile upgrade to your amor or gun? And you get a max of ten for the whole season, spread them out however you like. Upgrades could be stuff like a free +10 in a stat once, getting built in +5% damage resist to an element, getting built in mod like reserves or something, pick an extra perk of your choice on a gun, etc. Or like between very weak exotic level effects that cost like 5 points to apply thats something like a small bit of extra super energy off of kills or improves a specific perk by a certain amount, nothing too crazy. You could only have 1 equipped like exotics and the armor piece would have it color change from purple to lick orange or something since its between legendary and exotic. I'd like to see something like this plus the return of actual character levels that serve a purpose too. Imagine each level gives you a class point to upgrade something on a subclass as you please? Say -10 seconds on a super of your choice? +5% grenade damage? Extra bounce on throwing knives? Some cool stuff to play with. Make a max of 10 levels obtainable each season so level 40 by end of year. Make it take the same amount of time to get 10 of these as it does to hit +15 on the artifact right now and then these levels could just replace the artifact power bouns nonsense. Then you keep GMs difficult without the unecessary grind but still leave a grind available if someone wants to that allows you to not super mitigate how badly you get hurt but at least let you dish out a little more. Same for master raids and dungeons. And you could make the pinncales locked in for the season and reset each season and the class points be locked in and reset each year. That way its not meaningless but we avoid insane power build up over time and Bungie can evaluate and tweak as needed. This would leave a grind but a meaningful one in the overall that can still be skipped without severe consequences for not doing it but also not super extreme benefits for doing it that force it and make it feel like a chore.

                  • Yes, completely. They need to go back to "COMPLETE" DLC that we can all enjoy for a period of time. The seasons are a chore, dull, tedious, not rewarding, unfulfilling, and just plain boring. The stories they're shoehorning in each season are so formulaic that nothing matters.

i want a season pass system like Halo, you can buy the pass and if you dont have so much time (as with exams phase) you can Level it in a Later season and can get the Rewards.

Not to mention game has been running on broken old systems that vaults paid content but brings back old recycled content, then creates empty seasonal design that does nothing but gets you running on endless and pointless hamster wheel at the same activities over and over. Haha!🤣 Player population has been dwindling they have no clue how to keep them engaged but to bait them into running an endless empty hamster wheel all year round, then the cycle repeats again in complete boring emptiness.🤣 Broken and empty game!🤣

                          • Yes it gives me “Destiny burn out” which makes me take a break from the game every now and again. The trouble with taking a break though is when you come back you find yourself fallen behind so have more grind than normal to catch up. Which ends up giving you burn out again. The ironic part is though you only do the light level chase each season to play GM’s, Trials and the likes. All of which you cold play the previous season if you’d done the grind. It’s a hamster wheel that rewards you with allowing you to keep playing the same stuff.

I feel like the last 10 levels in leveling takes forever. It's tied to playing core activities that have stopped being fun for years now over and over for weeks. It doesn't have dupe protection which wouldn't be a problem if they made leveling faster or less chore-like. To make things worse, they also added XP levels that take a long time to level normally past +10-12. 15 being the mandatory minimum for endgame endgame types of grind means that tons of people don't engage with the content out of sheer time needed to invest into it. They added challenges to simulate bounty farming, but it's still another chore. We don't need 10 levels every season either, but it's for engagement so they won't stop. Basically, get rid of XP levels, make the 10 final levels easier to get in season updates, and they can slow down progression in major expansions if they want.

Power level is getting some tuning apparently in lightfall or its at least being addressed in lightfall. The seasonal thing could be better though cause most of the time we get this random empty month of nothing till the next season like right now and they could fix that too. If it was only two months a season it would probably work better for players but I feel like bungie uses this time to do updates and work on future content so maybe the extra month is best for them but that can't be right because the game is always a hot mess with every new season. So maybe bungie could trim the fat a bit and cut out the power level bs and remove the extra month of nothing from the season and then the game would be better for it.
