... awesome
...helping to keep the gaming industry alive
...continuing a great community
...going to have a great time
see you in Felwinter Peak guardians.
Edit 4: I'm putting this at the top of the edits as it's my reply to quite a common comment here. Some people are saying preorders are bad for the gaming industry as it takes away the incentive for Developers to make a good game. They also say that the devs are getting all our money and then just kind of giving up on the project and don't care anymore because they already have our money. My response to this is, Forget about preorders for a second. When a game is released and they make millions of dollars from people buying the game. Does that mean they no longer care, they no longer put money into the game, they ignore the fan base and say hey we have their money now, we don't need to listen to them anymore. No, they don't. They hire people to patch the game, do updates to the game, make new content for the game etc. (this isn't just about Bungie and Destiny btw, I mean ALL developers). Do you really think that the devs want to sell a bad game? You are really really stupid if you think they no longer care bacuase they have your money.
Edit: for those saying this community is not good, don't judge the community based on the forums. A lot of the forums are a horrendous part of the community. Go to places like this to see how good the community really is.
Edit 2: This whole post is in response to this so when I said 'helping to keep the gaming industry alive' I didn't mean that preordering this DLC is single handedly helping keep it alive. I was merely saying the opposite to this guy who thinks it's killing the gaming industry, I don't think it is.
Edit 3: this whole post is in response to this post. I don't actually think pre-ordering is keeping the gaming industry alive. The gaming industry is already alive and it isn't going anywhere, it was just a response to that dumb comment saying pre-ordering is killing the gaming industry.

I don't plan on pre-ordering RoI, I'll just buy it when it comes out.
-
I really like destiny so there's no way I wouldn't preorder it

To all those saying our community is trash, let it be known there's currently a charity stream and a community made convention on Saturday...

2 RepliesTheres no rush they wont ever run out of copies, just wait a bit read reviews and watch youtube clips. The amount of duff games dropping recently is unreal.

Pre ordering in general terms is negative. All the things you describe would be the case with just buying the game. Preordering acts as a disincentive to actually make the thing good. http://www.forbes.com/sites/davidthier/2015/01/14/video-games-are-going-to-get-worse-as-long-as-we-keep-doing-this/#6975cc1d14af http://venturebeat.com/community/2013/02/15/why-pre-ordering-games-is-never-a-good-idea/ https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/03/18/editorial-lets-not-pre-order-games-any-more-eh/ http://www.cnet.com/uk/news/you-should-never-ever-preorder-a-video-game/

Pre ordered as soon as it became available just wish i didnt have to wait so long to play it. d2 needs a monthly update to keep the players interested this once every 6-7 months is a joke

12 RepliesPre-ordering is cool when it gives you awesome gear, or other exclusive swag. On the business end, pre-ordering gives investors a preview of the cash flow that can be expected after release. Also, pre-orders allow companies to more accurately forecast future sales, which in turn, informs them on how and when they can plan future development. For example, let's say Bungie needs $100MM for Destiny 2 and four years to develop. In order to raise that capital and have that time horizon, Bungie has to be able to forecast to investors that ROI will produce 'X' amount of dollars. That info, combined with past performance by Destiny's other DLCs, give investors the confidence they need. Confidence and investing are inexorably intertwined. The capital raised gives Bungie the information they need to plan the scope of future developments. Any questions?

23 RepliesI see the problems and I will say my two cents. Pre-ordering is like a gamble. But that's what life is all about. Everyone takes a gamble when they leave they're house. If the game looks interesting and you don't mind spending the cash up-front, go for it. In reality how is it any different from seeing a movie in a theater?

don't judge the community based on the forums.
Couldn't agree more, and I think it's important newer Guardians know this. You will find lots of friendly people who love destiny when playing (on all platforms). Our community loves to help each other out with missions and strikes and Raids etc. You often get messages and invites just from standing in the social spaces for a few minutes. Lots of players like having a laugh. The player interactions you have are good. Some you'll just part separate ways after a small battle, rather uneventful; others you won't forget, and even result in new friendships.

This is literally the opposite of what you're saying. It's detrimental to all the gamers to preorder any game
-
I pre ordered in like the beginning of June, I just pre ordered bf1 yesterday, and I'll be pre ordering infinite warfare after i see some multiplayer.
-

5 RepliesDon't pre-order anything, I learnt that the hard way when I pre-ordered Battlefront.
-
3 RepliesRelying on preorders is bad for the industry because it encourages starting projects with insufficient funds, releasing half baked content and too much of the early funds being spent on marketing. If preorders had a refund window of a few days after release, then that could help some. But if a company is disciplined, then it can benefit greatly from preorders by using the money to further improve the product before release. As is preorders seem to be hurting more than helping, but it more has to do with how the companies react to the existence of preorders.

3 RepliesOmg am I tired of reading about cut content. Regardless if it happened or not, we are all still playing. And as far as pre-ordering goes, it's a good thing. It promotes. It gives the devs an idea of how many people give a shit and it they should keep going or not, not to shit on us and take our money and run but to make awesome moments we talk about for years to come. Randal... I'm looking at you. 👀. Anyway, look folks, we all have our gripes with this game, with all games, but please don't attempt to 💩 on a game that will absolutely be apart of our lives for years to come! Attention whore troll.. ha-ha. Jk, kinda. Enjoy!

35 RepliesOkay, what should I base the Destiny community on? Sweaty tryhards who send hate mail after every Crucible match? Screeching homophobic kids? The cheaters and AFKers? People who kick you out of their fireteam for no reason? The fanboy-infested Destiny Reddit, who attack you if you acknowledge the slightest fault in this game? The morons who claim to have hundreds of Raid completions, but can't figure out the most basic mechanics? The vast majority of people I've met in this game are just terrible people. Even outside these forums, Destiny has the most toxic, elitist, hate-filled community this side of MOBAs.

... awesome ...helping to keep the gaming industry alive
Lol stopped reading there. Activision is worse than EA. They ruined blizzard and they completely trashed bungie.

9 Replies99% of preorders are because of gjallerhorn
