Edit 4: I'm putting this at the top of the edits as it's my reply to quite a common comment here. Some people are saying preorders are bad for the gaming industry as it takes away the incentive for Developers to make a good game. They also say that the devs are getting all our money and then just kind of giving up on the project and don't care anymore because they already have our money. My response to this is, [i][b]Forget about preorders for a second. When a game is released and they make millions of dollars from people buying the game. Does that mean they no longer care, they no longer put money into the game, they ignore the fan base and say hey we have their money now, we don't need to listen to them anymore. No, they don't. They hire people to patch the game, do updates to the game, make new content for the game etc. (this isn't just about Bungie and Destiny btw, I mean ALL developers). Do you really think that the devs want to sell a bad game? You are really really stupid if you think they no longer care bacuase they have your money.[/b][/i]
Edit: for those saying this community is not good, don't judge the community based on the forums. A lot of the forums are a horrendous part of the community. Go to places like [url=https://www.twitch.tv/destinycommunitycon]this[/url] to see how good the community really is.
Edit 2: This whole post is in response to [url=https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/211538714?sort=0&page=0]this[/url] so when I said 'helping to keep the gaming industry alive' I didn't mean that preordering this DLC is single handedly helping keep it alive. I was merely saying the opposite to this guy who thinks it's killing the gaming industry, I don't think it is.

The gaming industry is already alive and it isn't going anywhere, it was just a response to that dumb comment saying pre-ordering is killing the gaming industry.

Pre-ordering isn't killing the industry, but it's extremely risky as a consumer (and doesn't happen in almost any other industry). You are simply giving them money for a future product that has the possibility to being broken upon release (Tony Hawk, Halo MCC, AC: Unity, etc) and honestly, most "pre-order bonuses" are pointless, cosmetic junk that add nothing to the game. In some cases it's actually worth it (such a the new south park or dishonored coming with the original game as well or GoW 4 giving you early access to the final release), but in most cases, it really isn't and it does convey to companies that you aren't overly worried about the quality of the final product (which does NOT help consumers).

Destiny has been great but man...so burned out on having to wait forever for new content. That being said, if a game calls to me I'll pre-order like I did with Witcher and Fallout. I've gotten burned too with things like Evolve. But preordering is just fine imo.

13 RepliesNow whilst I can understand that pre-ordering does indeed seem appealing based on the bonuses that you get, in my experience most of the bonuses end up being available anyway for the people who did not pre-order. My biggest problem with pre-ordering is that it provides a safety net of guaranteed purchases for the developer. Take the MCC for example. 343 must have known that the game had SIGNIFICANT and game breaking flaws that would take a ridiculous toll on the enjoyment that most people would derive from the game. In an ideal world they should have pushed back the launch until the game was in a launch ready state; however they had enough pre-orders(aka guaranteed sales) to be able to turn a profit even with all the games flaws. Now whilst I'm not saying that ROI is going to flop because from everything they've showed us it looks great! However so did the dark below and that was widely considered rather lacklustre in the eyes of many. Truly we should at least wait for reviews to come out before blindly handing over our money? But I understand that many shall pre-order because they like Destiny and want more of it. And that's OK. I merely advocate caution when it comes to pre-ordering new games. So many recently have failed to live up to the hype. DLCs are different and it'll come down to personal preference whether someone pre orders or not. But new games that aggressively push pre-order bonuses etc must be treated with cynicism that they deserve.
