Even when the net was in its infancy we had to discover content I'm games on our own. Could you imaging a game like destiny without tutorials and videos showing you everything there is to do in the game.
Destiny would seem 10 times larger than it is. People would interact. We'd always be looking for groups in game and asking people where they got their gear.
It would be a place of constant discovery. There would still be mystery to the game which to me is what is currently lacking.
With all the information we have access to we can look up and complete content that would take us months without the net.

I remember having to load games into high memory. Games came on about 10 floppy disks. Oregon trail.

That's what it was like for me for two weeks after launch before I realized I could just Google what Spinmetal was :P

I remember back in the day I would buy the game guides and have to flip through the pages of the areas I would get stuck at.

6 RepliesI remember waiting for the 1980s version of youtube...Nintendo power to arrive in the mail. Sign here if you ever actually called the Nintendo power hotline for help in figuring out a game! I remember thinking that would be a cool job...come to think of it....still do.

Any Spyro fans would remember this code and how it trolled players: Up, Right, Down, Left, Up, Square, R1, R2, L1, L2, Up, Left, Down, Right, Up, X We had to deal with the fact that if we did it when the initial pause menu option was selected when we started inputting it that it'd either kick us out of the level or quit the game. And all it did was change Spyro blue...

I'm 29 and have been playing video games pretty much all my life. Ive also had access to a computer the majoroty of my life. I don't remember too much before the internet. I mean I remember playing video games offline but I feel like I had access to cheats and codes from the internet since I was like 8 years old.

Ocarina of time, water temple. This was a massive adventure without any guide. It's also what made that game so fun.
-
Well they had magazine guides only game I ever used one on was Knights of the Old Republic. I loved playing my Super Nintendo and N64. Hell I still break it out and play my old systems. Brings me back to a more simple time

1 ReplyWell, there used to be these things made out of paper called "magazines" that got delivered to your house every month.

1 ReplyCrash Team Racing: Tiger Temple. Blast the monkey door open by using bombs. Can be done every lap. It's a short cut. Megaman Legends 2: beat the game on normal to unlock the crystal blue bullets. (Accessory Pack O) Castlevania: Lament of Innocence: Optional boss The Forgotten One. Collect the five orbs from the five zone bosses. Go to upstairs castle floor (Final Boss level) and collect the Roman numeral tablet. Flip it from VI to IV and place it in the empty slot where the other tablets are at. Doing this will give you the key to the basement/dungeon. Travel back down, kill The Forgotten One, and obtain the Black Orb. I miss those days. :(
-
Yup. I almost miss it.
