Even when the net was in its infancy we had to discover content I'm games on our own. Could you imaging a game like destiny without tutorials and videos showing you everything there is to do in the game.
Destiny would seem 10 times larger than it is. People would interact. We'd always be looking for groups in game and asking people where they got their gear.
It would be a place of constant discovery. There would still be mystery to the game which to me is what is currently lacking.
With all the information we have access to we can look up and complete content that would take us months without the net.

Before the Internet? Like when they had to light candles and read road maps in the before time. Sppoky.

2 RepliesGames don't have tutorials anymore. They used to.

I will never forget playing super Mario bros on the Nintendo my parents bought back in the day. Still have it along with 13 games.

Edited by Fenrir: 11/10/2015 2:16:10 AMI'd never thought about that for Destiny... if we didn't have these forums, if our only communication was in-game in party chats where rumors and gossip would spread... wouldn't that be a wonderful game?... to have to figure it out on your own?... to be proud of the things you've achieved, because you didn't have a thousand guides to tell you what's what... to fight through a realm of unknown possibility, which, although it may have its limits, you'll likely never fully explore... I've never wanted the Destiny forums gone more than I do now.

1 ReplyCompletely agree, tasks that are viewed as easy now would become monumentally challenging and require significant time investment and effort. I often wonder how game developers deal with this, like do they design the game factoring in that people will look things up? It makes most puzzle activities pointless, which is kind of sad.

5 RepliesBetter yet do you remember the first time you played an mmo. Before they turne into what they are now.

1 ReplyI remember ball in a cup.... Do you remember ball in a cup?

I remember buying magazines at a fiver a time just for the guides to getting everything in the ps1 final fantasy games. I remember calling premium phone rate tips lines because I just could not figure out what to do next on silent hill. I remember not knowing the button combos for fatalities on mortal kombat. I only use the web to help me if I feel I really need it. But I'm glad it's there, i would never go back to the old days.

2 RepliesNo one is forcing you to look stuff up on the internet. You cant blame bungie for your lack of self control.

Yep... All we had where extremely dumbed down versions of Bethesda games. Buggy and singleplayer.

My friends and I would ride our bikes on roundtrips as long as 4 hours to participate in Street Fighter arcade tournaments.
-
4 RepliesYou do realize that if there was no internet then you couldn't interact with other people because there would be no network or live... So no way to do raids or crucible or strikes...
-
1 ReplyHow would you find a group and interact if there was no internet lol?

5 RepliesThe Bard's Tale on the Commodore 64 loved that game

1 ReplyNo we used to purchase the game guides from the book store in HARD COPY lol. Or wait for like Nintendo power magazine to explain the tips on hard parts.

1 ReplyEdited by Mr. Grips: 11/10/2015 1:12:41 AMYou have bigger problems if you needed youtube for 95% of this game. It was and is all rng and needed no video guide to do.

1 ReplyI do. So many hours spent figuring out puzzles. Far more satisfying.
