Is "Earning" a Gun Legitimately Possible
I'm just wondering myself, how the community feels about this topic. There's a lot of shots being fired from people who think they have more right to a gun than anyone else, so what do you guys think?
Edit: I should've put Exotic Bounties as an option. Thanks for reminding me Guardians.
Edit: WOW! I didn't expect such a response, after over [u[/u]200 responses and votes it seems that the general consensus is that certain weapons (i.e. Exotic Bounties, Trials (Adept), and the Stranger's Rifle, Kvhostov, Xür, etc.) are earned throughout the game. But most other things (Gjallarhorn, Vanguard, Faction gear that isn't purchased ) are down to RNGesus and his blessings. Thanks so much Guardians!

It's all [i]earned[/i] you invested time to level up a character to do the content, and RNG praised you, it's just random. In some cases you put time into getting a guaranteed item, like marks for armor/weapons, strange coins for Xur, iron banner rep grinding. Yes, some people put more effort into getting an item, but guess what, it doesn't mean that the person who got Gjallarhorn from his first legendary engram from his first strike after level 20 didn't [i]earn[/i] it. Disclaimer: I don't have Gjallarhorn, and I'm salty about RNG 99% of the time, but it's just the way it is.

Weapons bought from any vendor is earned. Anything else is random timing drops. I got a hard light from the strike playlist. That's pretty random. And raid weapons are earned but won't drop lol so I guess that's called a ripoff.

So in other words: RANDOM NUMBER GENERATOR. Doesn't matter how long you've played. LUCK. Edit: not taking about his total playing time either, just how long he's had the game

Only ones truly earnt are the bounty guns on the basis you got to do shit to get them but even them people have abused that like the thorn one. GunS you can buy from trials are earnt same for iron banner to some extent. Basically if you require rng to get it, aside from the rng to get the bounty then it's not earn.

Technically earning thorn in the early day so would probably consider one of he few "earned" weapons given that the pvp portion was no gimme for some people,especially in the early days when shotguns were worthless in pvp, and we didn't have raid void primary etc. of coarse getting the bounty itself was sheer rng luck. So idk, but that's the best argument but also who really cares

You earn the Stanger's Rifle, Murmur, and any of the weapons via exotic bounties (though some folks do boost certain portions of these bounties). Aside from these, no.

Only guns you ever earn are the exotic bounties, and the new year elder cipher guns. Purely because after a bit of luck you get the bounty then, your put through a set of missions with the reward being a gun. So you're working towards a specific goal, so I'd say that's earning.

Randomness is random. Sucks that for every player with 4+ gally drops there are numerous players that haven't had one drop yet. But that's just the mechanic of the game I suppose. I honestly think you earned an exotic when you've ground the weekly for strange coins to buy something from xur instead of having it randomly drop in game.

I would have said the adept trials primaries, but the amount of people that get carried, apparent lag-switching and final round bullshit kinda takes the earning out of it.

Sort of. U need some skill to do the exotic bounties, but rng give the bounties to u. But if a noob gets the thorn bounty, he can't complete it. So, exotic bounties requires skill somewhat
