Is "Earning" a Gun Legitimately Possible
I'm just wondering myself, how the community feels about this topic. There's a lot of shots being fired from people who think they have more right to a gun than anyone else, so what do you guys think?
Edit: I should've put Exotic Bounties as an option. Thanks for reminding me Guardians.
Edit: WOW! I didn't expect such a response, after over [u[/u]200 responses and votes it seems that the general consensus is that certain weapons (i.e. Exotic Bounties, Trials (Adept), and the Stranger's Rifle, Kvhostov, Xür, etc.) are earned throughout the game. But most other things (Gjallarhorn, Vanguard, Faction gear that isn't purchased ) are down to RNGesus and his blessings. Thanks so much Guardians!

There are plenty of times that I carry far more than my own weight and get nothing, and other times I'm carried and get the best drops in the game. So no, nothing is exclusively earned. I still voted "its just a game".

A few guns are earned, like raid weapons and adept trials weapons, and the bounties. Otherwise, it's all rng.

Yes, it is legitimately possible. Say you want that new bicycle in the shop window... So, you get yourself a paper route and you save up money until you have enough to buy the bike. Did you earn that bicycle? Damn right you did. So, Xur comes around and he's got a shiny new Gjallarhorn, but you're a bit short on strange coins. So, you go out and do the weekly heroic strike, on hard, with each of your 3 characters. Now you have enough coins to buy Gjallarhorn! Did you earn that Gjallarhorn?

Do raid, nightfall and what ever else once and you are entitled to recieve the exotics no matter where from. You did the requirements for the drops so does it make it different to get it by xur or other easy methods. The term earn is quite simply just receiving the gun from any method. Like deej said during the dark below you earned coins you earned it to buy from xur. You did the nightfalls, raids and crucible but didn't recieve it like others. You saw it drop for someone 8 times but you still didn't get it. Then xur decides to finally sell it and the forums explode with newbs being able to buy it but everyone forgot what happened when xur spelled gjallahorn the one time. Newbs probably don't know its value unless they have experienced friends. If they have never done nightfall and weekly heroic then they will not be able to buy it easily. Which is way the anyone who says to earn it should no longer buy food from the store and instead hunt I from the wild. You should not buy a car but find the material and make it. You should make your house instead of buying it. Did I not earn this money did I not earn what I buy

8 RepliesYou earn exotic bounty weapons, it may be rng to get the bounty but completing that bounty earns you that weapon.

If you're actually running a specific task for it, then yeah, you earned it. Else its just RNG.

Yes. What you do is you go into a certain strike, obtain currency, and then exchange goods in a trade with that which you earned.

Maybe you don't earn the "gun" of your choosing. Getting coins or getting a drop are really no different. Coins may be guaranteed and you know what it takes to obtain them. Other drops that rely on rng are usually more worthwhile and you have to do a certain activity and then get lucky. Yes. Lucky.. but you earned lottery roll. And when something finally drops you earned it with all the attempts made without getting anything.

If we are getting technical, most of us needed to earn money to buy the game which contains all the guns. So the answer would have to be yes.

Don't like the options. Vestian Dynasty and Strangers Rifle are earned by doing the story. If you RNG a bounty you earn the weapon by completing tasks. Murmur is a quest item that requires tasks as well. The rest are earned by either completing strikes raids crucible matches and arena. You can also redeem your earned coins at Xur.

8 RepliesThe only method that does not involve RNG at all is buying from Xur. You go out and complete the Weekly Heroic to get coins and then spend those coins on a gun from Xur. Everything else has some level of RNG involved. You can't start the exotic bounty unless it drops for you. You can't choose which Adept Trials gun you want, you just get a random one from the chest. I guess the Stranger's Rifle also counts.
