Should the UK bring back guns in homes?
Ruadhan Donelly just asked whether Americans should remove guns from homes following the huge controversy surrounding the frequent shootings... I want to know whether you think the UK should bring back guns due to there not being any significant gun rampages since they became illegal.

60 RepliesOk in the UK 1 guy goes on a rampage with Semi Automatic rifles in 1987 (see The Hungerford Massacre) and the UK bans them in response. Then 1 guy goes on a rampage with hand guns in a school in 1996 (see Dunblane) and the UK bans hand guns in response. Since then there has been 1 other mass shooting in the UK in 2010. The UK has very tight gun laws and as a result has a murder rate of just 1 per 100,000 population of which gun crime makes up a tiny % US has many MANY mass shootings and does nothing about it. In fact the NRA wants MORE guns in schools and colleges as a means to protect students and staff. Anyone with a mental illness can obtain a firearm in the US. The US has a murder rate of 4.7 per 100,000 with fire arms taking a large % Why would we want to bring firearms back in to UK homes when we're as safe as we have ever been? Do we want to become a mess like the paranoid and shamelessly pro gun country like the US? No.

2 RepliesThere's absolutely no reason to bring back guns for 'home defence' as all it would do is create a need for criminals to arm themselves with guns for breaking and entering rather than using bats or knives. I'd rather face one or two burglars with bats or knives and have the option to either: A) succumb, let them take what they want and claim everything taken on home insurance, or B) try to fend them off with reasonable force and suffer a beating or stab wound Than face a 50/50 shoot-out. People can currently own guns if they wish to.

Smh If criminal wanted to commit murder or homicide, why would they care about a gun law? They wouldn't, they would find other means to acquire a firearm, and then commit and act of violence.
